It was the third day now and Nicholas hasn't returned. Alison busied herself with her paintings all day till she eventually ran out of supplies. Her paintings represented her restlessness and it only became worse as she ran out of paint.

She sat by the window, watching the sunset. The sunset calmed her mind a little bit. As the sun began to go, rain started to fall. She loved the rain but at this moment she hated it. The house felt like a prison.

A knock at the door broke the silence. Her heart skipped a beat. She knew it wasn't Nicholas. Nicholas won't knock for sure. She approached the door with Nicholas’s warning in her mind.

“ Who is it?” she asked, hesitating a bit.

“ Just a passerby seeking refuge from the rain” came the reply.

Alison contemplated whether she should open the door; despite Nicholas's warnings in her mind, she opened the door.

She opened the door and it revealed a man. He looked like he would be around Nicholas' age or a bit older. He had long dark hair, although

The moment the door closed, Alison felt a strange weight in her chest. The rain had lessened to a light drizzle outside, but the silence within the house was deafening. She wrapped the doorknob with her fingers. How did the man know her name? She tried recalling their conversation in her mind. She never informed him her name —she was certain.Something dawned on her, a chill went down her spine. Who could he possibly be? She began to find breathing a bit difficult. Did Nicholas know this man? Was he dangerous? Her intuition told her that he was. Her hands trembled a little as she took a step back from the door. She turned and hurried to the kitchen after that. She had seen the guns Nicholas had left behind. But when she opened the drawers and cupboards and found that he had locked them before he left, she shuddered a little.Nicholas, screw you. Her thoughts were racing as she paced the room. Where would she go now? Is she supposed to remain here? The electricity flickered. The light

Nicholas made his way quickly down the wet lane. All the muscles in his body ached. He didn't want any more time. Adrian's eyes were everywhere. The note at the hideout was a statement rather than merely a warning. He needed to get back to Allison. Nicholas sensed it, even though the streets were oddly silent. The weight of invisible eyes followed every step he took. This was not something he had time for. His fingers tightened around his rifle. A shadow lunged at him as he turned the corner. Before Nicholas could react, a powerful force struck him, pushing him up against a damp brick wall. Then, gritting his teeth and swinging his arm to knock his assailant back, he shot through his ribs. But before he could recover, another person emerged from the darkness. A blade flashed towards his face. Nicholas barely dodged, the sharp edge close enough to graze his cheek. He fired a shot, but Adrian's men, his attackers, were already on the move and they were swift and threatening. Grabbing

Alison remained motionless, her fingers still holding the picture. Nicholas' soaked body was a little darkened by the shadows from the faint light from the hidden room, and his body blocked the only way out.Even though his breathing was unsteady and his knuckles were bruised and bloodied, his eyes—his light gray eyes—were fixed on the photographs she was holding. Alison expected him to yell at her, but his silence was much worse. Alison forced herself to look into his eyes as she swallowed. With a voice hardly audible above a whisper, she confessed, "I—I was looking for a place to hide." "I didn't intend to—" She paused, taking another look at the pictures. Amelia. The woman who looked very much like her. Nicholas had never spoken of the woman. Like a predator moving toward its prey, Nicholas moved forward slowly and deliberately. "You're not supposed to be here.”He said quietly. His voice was too low. Alison tried to steady herself by clenching her fists. "Who is she?" She held up

Nicholas' expression changed to something darker, like anger, irritation, or perhaps something else she couldn't identify before Alison had a chance to grasp what he had spoken. "You just had to go looking, didn’t you?" His speech was calm , but there was no mistaking the rage in his eyes. Alison clutched her arms and swallowed. "I didn’t mean to—" "Don’t," he interrupted her. "You're not allowed to explain yourself. Asking questions about topics you don't need to understand is not acceptable. She had not anticipated the reaction from him. This was more than just rage; it was something more profound and seem a bit personal. She whispered, "You're overreacting," she said as she felt her own annoyance increased. Nicholas laughed bitterly. Are you overreacting? Do you believe this to be a game?, You are the one sticking your nose to business that don't concern you. Alison's jaw tightened. "No, but I should be informed as to why I'm being hunted” “ You're acting dumb, like you don't know

The room was suffocatingly quiet. With her arms hugging her body, Alison sat on the side of the bed gazing at the shut door. Her experience with Nicholas had left her shaken. She couldn't get the memory of his rage out of her head. She let out a sharp exhale and ran her fingers through her hair. Today she had learned something insignificant. How long did Nicholas think he could hide it from her and at what expense? She was unaware of how much Nicholas was concealing, and now she found herself lost in her thoughts and her questions. She looked out the window. Danger was lurking nearby. The man from earlier. He frightened her which was quite funny . Oddly she felt very comfortable with him that only scared her more. Could he be the Adrian she thought fearfully. She quickly dismissed the thought. There's no way he would come himself. The fact she looked like Nicholas' possibly late lover shocked her the most. She wondered how he felt staring at her face fully knowing she reminded h

The silence in the room was almost suffocating.Alison's fingers tapped against the windows as she gazed outside the window. The place was secluded, surrounded by thick forests and an iron gate that would be impossible to cross without being noticed.Trapped.That was exactly how she felt. Her thoughts circled back to the night before. Nicholas’ anger had been more than just rage—it was fear. He wasn’t just mad that she had seen those pictures. And that meant there was more to this story than just Amelia.Alison’s gaze flicked toward the door again. He hadn’t returned since locking her in. A part of her expected him to—if only to continue their argument—but the house had been eerily silent since. The place was so quiet that it felt suffocating. Alison stared out at the wide open space while her fingers tapped on the window. Completely stuck in a place she didn't know.Stuck. She has grown used to the feeling by now.She thought about the previous evening.Nicholas had been terrified,

The knock sounded again. Alison’s heart was pounding as she walked up to open the door. She didn't know what to expect from him. She braced herself for whatever she was going to face. Nothing happened. Nicholas stood there, his expression unreadable as usual. She couldn't tell what she was thinking as she looked up at him. She wondered whether he was still angry or at least explained what she saw. For a moment, she thought he might explain or at least say something relating to the incident. She didn't expect what happened next. “We continue our training early,,” He said, his voice low. Alison blinked, unsure if she heard correctly. “ Training” “Yeah, we need to continue with our training; I won't always be here with you,,” he said, his gaze intense. “ Be ready by dawn” Before she could respond, he turned and walked away. And that was it. No confrontation or explanation. No mention of Amelia or what happened. Just like that, as if nothing ever transpired. It seemed like it was

The days went on like that. The training became part of their routine— early morning before the sun rose. Alison felt her body ache. Nicholas pushed her and trained her intensely. He was always calm though. She could tell she had improved in her fighting. He was always guiding her every movementThings were different. He was different. His coldness was still there, but she felt like he had softened a bit. Even though it was just the slightest. He was trying her insane. She couldn't figure him out and that made her a bit annoyed. She was quite good at figuring people out. And Nicholas was a complicated case.He acted as if nothing had happened, as if she hadn't seen the pictures, read the journal, or known who Amelia was, and made him react that way. Alison had chosen to forget about it even if it hurt her sometimes. In the moments when he thought she wasn't looking, Alison could feel his eyes on her face as he watched her.The constant reminder. She looked like her.And no matter how

The past couple of days, things have been going smoothly for Nicholas and Alison. They have grown closer staying in the underground. Nicholas still hasn't heard anything from Tristan. He knew something was wrong.Things were great with Alison; she has gotten bolder with him, teased him, and talked to Endless. He enjoys hearing her talk. She made me feel human again. Like he wasn't a monster. He was somehow reminded of the first time they met. How she challenged him despite her fear. He found it so funny."You know you can sleep on the bed; it's big enough for two," Alison's voice cut in through his thinking."You sure""Yes, you look so funny on that small couch" she let out a chuckle.Nicholas didn't know whether he would be able to control himself, being stuck with her in just this room was enough torture for him already. He wanted to decline but the look on her face left no room for arguments. He marched towards the bed where she was waiting. She patted the space beside her. She w

****Nicholas couldn't understand what was going on. He hasn't heard from Tristan for a while. He didn't know how things were in Adrian's end. He tried calling but he got no response. This was unlike him. He brushed it off noting it would be hard to communicate with him being in Adrian's territory. He watched as Alison slept. She looked so angelic in her sleep. He thought of last night when she confessed to him. He was honestly shocked by her confession and their late-night conversation. He could spend the whole day just hearing her speak. She had such a lovely voice. She was opening up to him now.He watched as she turned in her sleep. She was waking up. She slowly opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling for some time. Her cheeks turned red, he knew she remembered last night. He had always wanted to tell her how cute her morning face looked. He watched her as she sat up. Her eyes met his. She smiled at him and he found himself smiling too. He walked up to her. "Good morning beauti

All that Alison could think about was their almost-kiss. She was perfectly sure of it. All Nicholas did was confuse her. That seems to be his daily job which he was perfectly fine in. How could he do that leaving her craving for more. She was frustrated just thinking about it. Or could he possibly be still thinking of her as Amelia? She felt a little hurt thinking of her. She stared at him on the couch. His eyes were closed. He looked so peaceful in his sleep. He seemed a bit awkward on the couch. Even in his sleep, he was invading her mind. She sat up from the bed. Even the bed annoyed her too. A thought crossed her mind. She was about to do something crazy that might make things awkward for them."Nicholas""Nicholas"Nicholas opened his eyes, a few seconds later."Yes" He sat up and looked at her with those gray eyes she had come to talk."I can't sleep" She blurted out. That wasn't what she intended to say but she went with it."Me too" he sighed."Do you want tea?" he asked, and

Alison woke up earlier than before. The room was dark and completely filled with silence. She sat up on the bed stretching her body. Her body felt sore. She looked at the couch and she didn't see Nicholas. She expected to find him pacing the room or with his phone call. She straightened her shirt, her gaze falling on the closed bathroom door. The light spilling out from beneath it confirmed one thing. He was in there. She was about to lie down back when the door opened. She turned without thinking and froze.Nicholas came out of the bathroom, a white towel hung dangerously low around his waist. His hair was all wet and messy from the shower. Beads of water dropped from his perfectly built chest, and they glided down to the towel.Alison felt like she couldn’t breathe. She knew she should look away but she didn't. More like she wanted to look at him. Her brain was warning her not to look down; everything in her was forcing her to look up, but she found herself looking down at his body

The days went by in the underground room with Nicholas taking care of Alison till she eventually got better. Nicholas didn't leave her as promised. They had enough resources with them. It was almost as if he knew this was going to happen. Although Alison wasn't surprised. Being part of a Mafia, you have to prepare for emergency situations. The outside world was like a mystery to them as the time they spent inside the room passed slowly. As soon as she got better, Nicholas was busy. He's been making more phone calls. Although he was quiet during the calls. Her curious ears were ever ready to listen. She pretended not to, but she has heard more than he realized. Most names he mentioned sounded unfamiliar. The only familiar name he mentioned was Adrian and Tristan. Apparently it looked like they were still searching for them. She knew he wanted to protect her. That warmed her heart. Gradually she has been seeing so many good sides of him recently. Why couldn't those people leave them alo

Alison woke up again, she didn't know when she fell asleep again. She didn't see Nicholas which made her to feel panicked till she saw him lying on the couch. It looked a little odd considering his tall frame. She didn't know where they are. She monitored the unfamiliar room with intent trying to know whether she could guess the place. She stared at Nicholas again, she got off the bed and moved closer to him. A half blanket covered him.His gun was kept to his side. He looked so....tired yet still handsome. This was the first time she has ever seen him sleep. He looked so gorgeous. Alison watched me closely. He looked different. He seemed more... human unlike before. She walked back to her bed sitting on it. She glanced at the half glass of water placed on the table remembering how he took care of her.She wondered why he chose to be in the same room with her. He could have gone to another room. But he didn't. He was still here.A voice in her mind was reminding her she looked like his

Nicholas stared at the almost lifeless body in his arms. His heart nearly stopped beating when she fell into his arms. The image triggered a memory, but a different time, different person, similar situation, and striking resemblance. Alison wasn't going to; he wouldn't let that happen. He ignored the chaos and fighting from the men and picked her up. She needed to be taken to the hospital. He knew it was risky considering they were in the run but that was the only option. "I'll get Luca," Tristan said, aid probably sensing how lost Nicholas was. Luca was a doctor who also helped if any of the gang members got injured. Soon Alison was out of his arms and was being attended to. He didn't want to leave her with Luca but something was really bothering him. He left her with Tristan before going to meet the men who abducted her. He marched towards them with a burning fury in his chest threatening to burst. The men were already tied up and injured. He brought out a sharp knife from his pock

A scream broke the quiet night. Nicholas jolted awake, alert suddenly. His thought was of one person. Alison. He reached for his gun as he heard another scream, louder than the first. He rushed out of his office and dashed towards Alison's room. He could still remember their argument. Damn, he shouldn't have left her alone. He kicked the door open with so much force. No one, he didn't see anyone in the room, and for the first time,, he felt a feeling he didn't think he would feel for a long time.Fear.His eyes drifted to the broken window and the remnant glasses on the floor. She was gone. Alison was gone. He caught sight of blood on the floor. She was injured. Those assholes hurt her, he was going to make them pay. The hands that dared her hurt her, be it whoever Adrian or whatever. His mind was racing as he stared at the blood. He could feel himself getting furious. Nicholas could barely sleep that night. The image of Alison pressed against the wall with pure anger in her eyes kept interrupting his sleep. Damn it. He shouldn't be thinking about her, he had more pressing matters to deal with.He shouldn't have gotten that close to her. Or touched her in the first place. The look in her eyes stirred something in him. Something he didn't want to feel more like wouldn't accept himself to feel. He nearly lost control and it terrified him.His control was the only thing keeping them alive at the moment. He couldn't afford to lose it.He didn't know what Adrian was planning and he suspected he had something to do with the symbol. He wasn't sure but that was all he could come up with for now. He didn't need Alison digging around. It would just get her killed or force him to do things he wasn't ready for.He couldn't afford for that to happen.Yet... he found himself thinking about her even though he tried to hide it.He loved how she challenged him and
