Chapter 100

AMELIA“Then just come and take it, bitch! Because if I get the chance, I will put this in your chest and rip your heart out.” My heart clenched, saying those words to Ryden. I knew it was the demon talking, but it still hurt. I tried reaching out to his thoughts, but I couldn’t. Come on, Alpha. Snap the fuck out! You’re stronger than him. He snorted. “Pathetic, but nice try, Amelia. Was he good in bed?” He cupped his crotch. “I mean look at this. The size is magnificent.” “Fuck you!” Anger boiled under my skin. I put the sword back. “Let’s fight fairly.” “You’re barely a fair contender, little wolf.” “We’ll see.” I jumped and lunged at him, and hit him on the shoulder. He only responded with a laugh. I forgot the fact that the possessed body couldn’t feel the pain anymore. We fought in the living room. He hit me, I hit back. He threw things at me, I picked up anything I could throw back, and his body may not feel exhausted as quickly as an unpossessed Ryden. Furniture was br

Chapter 101

RYDEN “Amelia!” I reached out for her before she faded from my vision. “Alpha Ryden?” someone called my name, gripping me in the wrist. “Ryden, can you hear me?” “Ren?” I cracked my eyes open. The first thing I saw was his blurry face and deep sadness in his eyes. “Where’s Amelia?” “Drink.” He offered a glass with a plastic straw for me to sip on it. I pushed his hand away. “Ren, where’s Amelia?” “What do you remember?” He put the glass down and looked at me. I grabbed him by his shirt and pulled him closer so I could look him in the eye. “Answer me or I will fucking break your wrist.” “Calm down, Ryden.” Zarah came forward.I let Ren go, still feeling disoriented. “What happened? Where’s Amelia?” Then I realized I was in the infirmary, and I felt my body hurt, especially my abdomen and my neck. “Did I get stabbed? Is everyone okay? Tell me Amelia is okay?” “You can feel her if she’s alive or dead, Ryden, but you missed out on a lot of things.” “Oh, thank Goddess.” I sat st

Chapter 102

RYDEN “She’ll live. She’s not here because she’s mad at you, Ryden,” Zeph explained. “She’s not here because she’s guilty of hurting you.” “You’re lucky she’s trained by a guild that trained assassins and knows where not to hit vital organs.” Dane leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. “I didn’t even know that.” I looked at Dane. “Yes, she’s that good. Now you know the feeling of being possessed. You’re stronger, but you have no control over your body and mind.” “Is that supposed to make me feel better? That I just hurt my mate?” “She did hurt you more than you did, and she was still holding back, but yes, she got sprained, cracked ribs—” “He doesn’t have to know that, Zarah.” Ren stopped her. “I’m more guilty than her.” I rose from the bed, hissing in pain. “Son of a bitch.” “I’m surprised you didn’t die in that sword. I guess we just figured out the purpose of that runes around your wrist,” Zeph said. “Zeph, take me to your sister.” “I don’t know where

Chapter 103

AMELIA What the hell am I even doing here? Guilt was real, constantly clenching my chest, and the effect was clusterfucked. I wished I could just stab myself for penance, maybe, inflict the pain so I would suffer instead of his, but life didn’t always go as we wanted it to be. Instead, here I was at the bar alone when I should be at Ryden’s side, self-loathing— I kept recalling what happened in my head, and I wished I could go back there and change it. “Give me the strongest you have,” I told the werewolf bartender. It was disgusting that I could smell a woman’s arousal from him. I hoped he washed his hands before he got back to work. “ID, please?” I groaned before I let my eyes glow. Couldn’t he smell me? He nodded and poured me a shot of Tennessee whiskey. “Thanks.” I gulped it in one shot, making me grimace. The alcohol was nothing compared to the guilt and conscience that burned in my throat. I put the glass down and asked for another. “Hey. Can I ask you something?” He

Chapter 104

AMELIA The man growled. When I turned around, his nose was flaring. His hands formed into fists. “You can’t scare me, bud.” I patted his chest and walked past him. I knew the alpha heard my word. Now was the time to have a lone time with him, that was, if he would take the bait. I left the club and used the exit. The smell of vomit and piss almost made me puke. The alley was eerily silent, except for the faint sound of the music and the clicking sound of my heels. Remember when girls got holdup, kidnapped, or violated in the movies? This was the same scenario where I put myself into. I just hoped it was worth the risk. I made out a few feet from the club, and he hadn’t shown up. I guess he didn’t take my bait. I thought of going back, but this plan always worked for most people. But he must not be one of those people. “You declined my invitation.” His voice was calm, confident, and deep, and he sounded older than I initially thought. My heart nearly stopped, but I was also gri

Chapter 105

AMELIA The next day, I received a bouquet of roses, though, and I burned it to ashes when the initial on the card was L instead of R. He probably expected to meet me tonight. I still couldn’t get him out of my head even before going to bed. I didn’t know why. My stomach twisted in knots, but every time I thought of his face, it made my heart flutter. Another beautiful morning. I supposed it was another beautiful morning, bright sun streaming through the opened curtain window, blue clear sky, and another breakfast I missed— intended to miss if I were to be honest. I ghosted everyone because I couldn’t even look them in the eye. I couldn’t even look Ryden in the eye without feeling the knife sink and twist in my chest. It was the guilt that taunted me from stabbing him and meeting a man behind his back. I mean, who stabbed a mate twice? The reason may be valid, but the trauma was real. And it broke my heart thinking that it left me no other way to save him. The word save seemed ab

Chapter 106

RYDEN “Wanna take a break?” I couldn’t help but be proud of myself when Ren told me that I made a lot of progress. If you put a lot of effort and time into something, it always gave you a lot of satisfaction when it ended up with success. “I’m good.” We’d trained since sunrise, and my wounds were healing fast. Not as my heart though. I hadn’t seen Amelia since that day. I missed her, and my wolf was anxious and desperate to feel her, but I gave her enough time to heal herself, and I knew she was not going anywhere. “Let’s take a break.” I didn’t insist on continuing, so I bowed. “Sensei.” “You don’t have to call me that.” He chuckled. I liked the sword he lent me, one of his family’s heirlooms. I didn’t realize what he meant when he asked if I wanted to take a break. I was too focused on the training until my wolf purred, and the scent brought in the air verified it. My heart started hammering as I turned to find her. The moment our gazes locked, all those worries faded away.

Chapter 107

AMELIA “So this guy is an asshole,” he muttered. His gaze was glued to the movie we were watching. I glared at him as I pointed at his laptop screen on the bed table. “He’s a good guy, Alpha. Okay, I admit, I found him overbearing, arrogant, overconfident, cocky, self-centered—” “That’s a lot, ladybug. And I told you he’s an asshole.” I groaned as I stuffed a few french fries into my mouth. It was unladylike but I was hungry, and he saw me. “Shut up,” I said with my mouthful. “As I was saying.” “Chew what’s in your mouth, Amelia.” He was making fun of me, and he didn’t even try to hide it. “As I was saying, yes. He’s a grade-A asshole, but later on, he saved his brother and a lot of people. He’s kinda a handsome anti-hero and later on becomes a hero.” “You just like his face.” I smiled as I looked at his face. “You’re more handsome than him. And I like your eyes better.” I dipped the fries into the ketchup and offered it to him. He bit and ate it. “Thanks.” “Now, let’s watc

Chapter 108

RYDEN Amelia was still curled into a ball when I left to get our dinner in the kitchen. The only food we had was our lunch from the fast food we ordered. I took the tray inside her room and shut the door slowly when a gasp came from her. Growling, her eyes glowed golden, and the sword in her grip was aiming at me. “Amelia, it’s me.” I held the food with one hand and flicked the light open. She blew a breath and shut her eyes close, putting away the sword. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have sneaked in like that.” I went to the side of the bed and put the tray on the bedside table. “I’m sorry.” She took a seat and pulled her knees to her chest. “We can say sorry all we want or I thought you might be hungry.” I pressed my lips against her forehead. “Were you having nightmares since you stayed here?” “Nope. Never had.” There was something in the way she looked at me that it felt like she wasn’t telling me. “Before we fought the wraiths, you told me, you wanted to tell me something.”

Chapter 109

AMELIA “I’ve sworn an oath to the people who trained me that I would bring the secrets to my grave. If it’s the only way to earn your trust, then so be it. I’ll pay for the consequences of my actions from now on.” “What are you talking about?” Kailin asked. “We’ll pay it together,” Ren backed her up. “Wait. Wait.” Theia raised her hand. “If this secret will put your lives in danger then no need. Our lives are already in danger, and I’m sure we can figure out how to find the bitch and the bastard just fine.” “It’s not their lives will be in danger, Theia. It’s ours,” Ryden told her which made her face ashen. “Because we’re close to them. We are the collaterals.” “Very well. We’ll find another way,” Zarah agreed. She finally calmed down. “There’s another way but he might ask something rare in return,” Ren told Zarah. “And you may not like it,” I added. “We don’t care as long as we can locate that bastard,” Theia said. “I agree. As long as he won’t ask for a barbecue unicorn.”
