Talia’s POVThe journey home the next morning was rather quiet. I hadn’t been able to sleep the whole night and when Valerie and Jasmine offered to drive me to the mansion, I hurriedly refused. I didn’t want Lorenzo to find out about them and more so, I didn’t want them to find out that there was something wrong with me. Fortunately, the cab driver wasn’t in a chatty mood and it was perfect for me. Ten minutes later, the cab pulled up at the mansion and I handed the driver a fifty-dollar bill and told him to keep the change. It was only past eight and Marissa wouldn’t be awake and I had no idea if Lorenzo had returned from his trip. “Do you know if Don Lorenzo is back?” I asked a maid as I scaled up the stairs. “No, he isn’t.” She replied, smiling at me before she walked away. I heaved a sigh of relief, it was one less headache to deal with. I made my way into my room and locked the door before plopping on the bed, not bothering to change my clothes. I had no zeal to do anythin

Talia’s POV“Things aren’t black and white, Marissa,” I said. “You can’t just stroll in here and tell me to come on a trip with you when I don’t want to, it’s an offense and you could be arrested for that especially if I press charges against you.” I was rambling at this point but I didn’t care, I wanted to do anything in my power to stay alone for the rest of the day. I was feeling this load of guilt trying to crush me and I didn’t want any of them to see me when I eventually broke down. “You know you’re saying nonsense, right? And if this is your poor attempt to wiggle your way out of this, it isn’t going to work, Talia. Lorenzo owns you and there’s nothing you can do about it.”I knew that I had slipped up and there was no coming back from this. Courtesy of my recent choices and struggles, I’d let my intrusive thoughts come out and I couldn’t take it back anymore. “The point is, whatever you’re suggesting isn’t something I feel is going to work with me right now given how I feel

Thirty-Three

Talia’s POVI’d gone from detesting being forced to come on a road trip to being in love with every second of it. Marissa had made the trip down here worthwhile with her endless tales of her mischievous childhood and her overbearing older brother. She was the only person who’d seen Lorenzo in his human form for a considerable amount of time and I couldn’t help but wonder what that felt like. I was starting to understand why she felt it was her responsibility to make sure he found someone he would be able to share his life with because she wouldn’t be staying at the mansion forever. Lorenzo was having a meeting when we arrived at the charming, rustic country home nestled among rolling hills and lush greenery. I’d never been to one and it easily took my breath away at how spectacular it is. The exterior walls were clad in natural stone, and there was a pitched roof with overlapping tiles, providing a sense of warmth and coziness. The large windows, often with shutters, allowed natu

Talia’s POVI gripped the armrest with such force that I felt it snap underneath my wrist. The guilt that had once threatened to consume me was back and I didn’t know how to control myself. Realistically, I didn’t know what he wanted to talk about and it could be anything in particular but my mind wouldn’t stop thinking he had found out the truth about everything and he was about to pass judgment on me for betraying him. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Lorenzo began as he sat down next to me. “I haven’t been myself all day but it’s only a phase that’ll pass over soon,” I replied. “Marissa mentioned it and I can’t help but feel worried about your present condition. Is there something you’re not telling me?” “You’re worried?” I wasn’t sure I heard him properly the first time so I had to ask again. It didn’t fit Lorenzo’s description to be worried about a slave of his, it was only natural for me to be shocked about this revelation. Was he worried about me or was he worried ab

Talia’s POVI shivered slightly and Lorenzo caught sight of that. “Come on, let’s get you inside. You’re going to freeze out here.” “I think I’m fine. I’m enjoying the view too much and I’m waiting for Marissa to come back.” I replied. “She’s not going to be back any time soon. The mall is quite far from here as you must have noticed while you were coming and on a second note, when did you become this stubborn?” Lorenzo shook his head. “I think you’re rubbing off on me,” I blurted out before I could stop myself. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…I meant that—“Lorenzo’s laughter cut me short. “Come on, Talia. It’s too good a day to be pissed about anything.” I nodded and followed him in, welcoming the warmth as he shut the door behind us. “You need something to keep you warm?” Lorenzo asked as he walked towards the kitchen. “Yes but no alcohol, please. Tea would be fine.” I said, hoping he heard me. The house was empty aside for both of us. Lorenzo had sent most of his guards away whi

Talia's POVI didn't want it to stop and neither did he. I welcomed the sensation as he fucked me from behind with reckless abandon. It was what I wanted right now, nothing else. I didn't care if Marissa and Matteo came back at any moment anymore.Suddenly, Lorenzo stopped and lifted me before dropping me on the bed."What are you doing to me, Lorenzo?" I whispered as I stared at him with hooded eyes."Nothing you haven't already imagined at night."His voice was decadent. Smooth. It traveled straight to my toes. With one gentle tug, I pulled him towards me as he towered above me. My body automatically responds to his touch. I could feel the warmth of his breath on my face. His lips hovered just mere inches above mine."I want to make you feel good, Talia." His fingers found the hem of my shirt, inching it up over my stomach."Oh, Jesus," I whispered, making him growl at the back of his throat. He crashed his lips against mine, his fingers brushed the underneath of my bra touching my

Talia’s POVLorenzo pulled me away and together, we made our way up the stairs and towards his room. “You’re not bothered about what Marissa said, are you?” Lorenzo asked as he opened the door and ushered me in. “She can be a little bit aggressive when she’s pissed off.” “I’m certainly not. I’m sure they’ve both known about it for a while already.” I shrugged. This was the first time I was in his room and I was stunned at how stunning it was. The ambiance was serene and calming atmosphere with soft, warm lighting, provided by the table lamps and stylish chandelier hanging above our heads. The room was covered in a soothing color palette, featuring gentle hues such as light blue, pale gray, or creamy whiteA plush, comfortable bed, adorned with crisp linens, soft blankets, and a plethora of pillows was placed in the middle. Abstract artwork or prints, featuring soothing landscape designs adorned the walls and a few, carefully chosen decorative items, such as vintage collectibles o

Talia’s POVI owed the past couple of years of my life to how I had managed to look out for myself first and like any cautious person, I was ready to do anything to protect myself and my values. Because I had a lot to lose and I could not let that happen again. The protection I relied on was based on just two things. It was the same two things for anybody trying to avoid danger. It was the same way a nation protects itself against an enemy nation, the same way a boxer guards a potential knockout blow, the same way a security guard protects an office against a burglar. It was based on two things. Detection and response. Step one, step two. First, you find the threat, and then you try to eliminate the threat.Step one was the hypothetical warning system. I had managed to make it rehearsed and simplified. It was made up of two layers, like two main gates of a large house. The first gate was thousands of miles away from my current location. It was an early warning sign, telling me someone

Talia’s POV“You shouldn’t be here, little girl. It’s not safe for people like you.” The fat man said in a gruff voice as he scowled at me. He was a rather terrifying figure and on every other day, I’d have fled immediately but I knew he worked for John and I had to speak with him. “John told me to come here,” I began, rubbing my shoulders as I shivered a little despite the heat in the air. “John? I don’t know any name like that, little girl. You need to fucking leave now!” The man barked, making me wince. There were two things involved, he was either trying to scare me or he was making sure I was the right person. “I came here to give John something that can help him win this fight against Don Lorenzo but you’re asking me to see him. So when he calls and asks why I missed our appointment, I’ll be sure to tell him about the man I met here.” I said, before turning to leave. “I had to make sure you were who you said you were,” The man said. “There’s little trust going around thes

Talia’s POV“Come on,” John said, pulling my arm as he dragged me away. “Let go of me, John.” I tried to wriggle my hand away from his grip but he wouldn’t let go.He ushered me into the room and closed the door before turning to face me. “You could’ve waited for me to come back, Talia. I kept you here for a reason and you couldn’t even wait.” John began. “Spare me the blame game, John. You’re well aware that I can’t go missing for too long before I rouse Lorenzo’s suspicions and if that happens, this thing we have together is as good as dead and you fucking know it.” I retorted. “I swore to you that I wasn’t going to put you in danger and my promise is still true. I had to deal with the spy and learn what he knew before coming to you. Besides, you said you had about an hour before your presence would be required, right?” “I have less than fifteen minutes to spend here before I’ll need to leave. This spy problem that you have, is it something I need to worry about?” I crossed my
