Chapter 81

Fiona’s POVA flash of motion, and Jin’s fist crashed into Kai’s jaw with a sickening crunch. The force of the blow sent Kai crashing backwards in a pathetic heap in his wheelchair, his feet struggling to find balance as white-hot pain exploded through his face. His fingers found the trail of blood dribbling from the corner of his mouth, but he barely had time to register it before Jin pounced on his crumpled form again, angrily shoving away the wheelchair, grabbing the front of his shirt and shoving him to his back. They collided, rolling angrily around the grass in their fighting frenzy. Jin delivered a nasty punch on Kai’s bandaged wound. Kai howled, curling his body as pain exploded from his side. Kai recovered fast. With a furious growl, he wrenched free and swung blindly, his knuckles colliding with Jin’s cheekbone. The impact sent Jin staggering, but it only fueled his rage. He surged forward again, tackling Kai to the ground. They hit the floor hard, limbs tangling as they

Chapter 82

Fiona’s POVThe battle raged on, growing fiercer with each passing second. Soren's secret stash of knives which he carried with him all the time was a bloody life saver which leveled the battlefield to a marginal level. Blades clashed in a cacophony of steel, sparks flying as Jin, Lyn, and Soren fought with everything they had. The mysterious group's relentless assault showed no sign of slowing, his movements swift and merciless. Each strike they delivered was calculated, powerful—almost inhuman. Still Jin, Lyn and Soren held their ground, slashing through the crowd that somehow refused to die despite the lethal blows delivered by the alphas. My breath came in ragged gasps, my heart pounding against my ribs as I watched them push themselves beyond their limits. Even Kai out of the desperation joined in the fight. Jin’s dagger cut through the air with precision, parrying the enemy’s blows with skill honed through years of training. His jaw was clenched, sweat trailing down his temp

Chapter 83

Fiona’s POVWe eventually stumbled across an old warehouse situated somewhere in the deserted lonely parts of the college grounds. Lyn pushed the rickety old door open, the unoiled hinges squeaked in protest from disuse. The warehouse was cold and smelled of rust and damp concrete. Moonlight streamed through the broken windows, casting jagged silver beams onto the cracked floor. Dust swirled in the air as we moved, our breathing heavy with exhaustion, leaving only our ragged breaths and the occasional groan of pain.I swallowed hard, my throat tight as I took in the sight of the Alphas around me. They were battered, bruised, and bleeding, their once-pristine clothes now torn and stained. Guilt twisted in my stomach like a knife. This was my fault. If I had been stronger, if I had been so fucking helpless—maybe they wouldn’t have suffered so much.Kai sat on an overturned crate, wincing as he peeled off his shredded blazer to reveal deep knife marks raking across his side. The sta

Chapter 84

Fiona’s POV“We can’t just sit and wait for death. We must take the initiative to find clues to this mysterious force in order to protect ourselves and more people.” Soren spoke, his voice low and firm. There was an unquestionable determination in his eyes, as if he was ready to face any challenge. “No one is saying anything about doing nothing, Soren.” I interjected.” But the fact remains that we have to tread with caution. We can’t be too careful. We mustn’t breathe a word of what happened tonight to anyone until we have proof of whatever the hell this is.” Lyn nodded and added, “Yes, I think we can start investigating from the store owner who attacked me and Kai yesterday. If he’s a store owner, that is. Maybe there is some connection between him and today’s mysterious group.” “I agree.” I muttered, rubbing a hand over my face in exhaustion. God, I was exhausted to the bone. I craved my bed. Speaking of, would it be alright to tell Rowan about what happened tonight? She’ll obvi

Chapter 85

Fiona’s POVThe underground trading market was the kind of place where nightmares were made real. The air was thick with something acrid that made their throats burn.Jin and Kai moved with purpose, their steps deliberate, but even they couldn’t mask the way their shoulders tensed, their fingers twitching near hidden weapons. They had spent hours weaving through this hellscape, asking about the mysterious middleman named Vail in hushed tones to anyone who would care to listen. And then, by chance, or maybe fate, they found him.It was Kai who spotted him first. "Hey, look over there." he muttered, tapping Jin's shoulder to get his attention. Jin turned his hace to see a thin, sharp-eyed man at a corner stall, fingers twirling a wicked looking serrated dagger between his fingers with the knowledge of a man who knew his way around a knife. "Are we certain that's him?"Kai shrugged lightly. "There's no harm in asking. Besides, he fits the description we've been told." "Alright. Let's

Chapter 86

Fiona’s POV“Shit!”I glanced back in time to see Lyn dodge a deadly swipe of one of the assailant’s sword that would have had his head flying of his shoulders had he not dodged last minute before Lyn kicked the masked heavily in the chest, throwing the man off balance before embedding his knife into the masked man’s neck. I tore my gaze away as the wet sounds of the man choking on his own blood pierced my ears amidst the ongoing chaos. And if I’m being thoroughly critical of the situation, the odds weren’t really in our favor but we held our ground. I stayed at the edges while holding off those I could, searching for any signs of weakness. “Let’s stay focused. Do not loose your ground.” No one was completely invincible. And then, I spotted it. The man fighting off Lyn and Kai, favored his right and did nothing to shield his neck like the others had done. “Jin, strike his right. His weaker there!”Lyn finished off his attacker and ran to help Jin, lunging forward to momentarily di

Chapter 87

Fiona’s POV“How’s Kai and Jin?” Lyn asked over the phone. “All patched up and currently resting at my place.” Soren replied. “Oh, thank fuck.” Lyn breathed, reclining deeper into the plush leather seats then expelled a heavy breath once more. This time in relief. “Fiona and I are on our way to your house as we speak.”“Any news?” “Oh, there’s a shit ton to on pack, trust me. But I can’t say anything on the phone so we’ll talk when we meet up.” Lyn answered. “Alright. Until then.” Soren said in goodbye, ending the phone. Mine rang a few minutes later and my heart stopped for a bit. I picked it up and stared at the caller ID and paled. “Who is it?” Lyn asked.“It’s Rowan. She’s been calling me all day but I’ve either ignored her calls or let it go to voice mail.” I turned to him with guilt and dismay. “What do I do? I don’t want to lie to her and I also can’t tell her the truth. It could put her in danger.”Lyn stared at the vibrating phone in my hand and took it from me. Without

Chapter 88

Fiona’s POVWith the first clue sorted out, we had begun our journey. One of the most tedious things any if us had encountered in all our days. It was like we had entered a rollercoaster with no control, like we were stuck in a giant endless limbo of some sorts. We had followed the of the map which had directed us to a lone island right in the middle of nowhere. We had the lost difficult times struggling to maneuver our way through the unstable, wild terrain of the island. We spent days and nights scrimping on our food and water supplies and camping in the open air while searching for the ancient relic where we had encountered the most deadly of traps. Eventually our prayers were answered. The relic lay hidden in its heart, a monolithic ruin of weathered stone covered in twisting vines. Strange, ancient symbols—almost like hieroglyphs—snaked along the walls, their meaning just barely out of reach. But before we could even think of deciphering them, the traps came. The first was a

Chapter 89

Fiona’s POVBlood. So much blood. My parents lay broken before me, their eyes wide with terror, their bodies lifeless. The smell of iron clogged my throat. It wasn’t real. It couldn’t be real. But it felt real.I gritted my teeth, pressing my palms against my temples. “It’s not real, it’s not real—”Lyn’s voice, shaky and strained, broke through the fog. “Fiona…?”I turned. Lyn was crumpled on the ground, his face twisted in agony.“Soren!” he choked out. “No—no, don’t—!” he wasn’t seeing me anymore. He was trapped in his own hell.Jin staggered against the wall, gripping his head. His breath came in short, frantic bursts. “It’s not—I didn’t mean to—I didn’t—” His eyes darted wildly, as if haunted by something only he could see.Kai’s fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles were white, his jaw locked in silent suffering.I forced my legs to move, stumbling toward Lyn. “Lyn, listen to me. It’s not real.” My voice shook, but I needed him to hear me. “None of this is real. It’s the

Chapter 90

Fiona’s POVThe screams and sounds of battle echoed in a blood curdling symphony at the background, I studied the parchment I held , focusing on interpreting the constantly changing symbols. It was frustrating having to revert back deciphering the answers only for the patterns to change. “Come on. Think!” I muttered to myself, wiping the sweat from my brow, my fingers trembling as I traced the shifting symbols on the parchment scroll. The ink seemed to pulse and flicker, reforming into patterns I could barely comprehend before they twisted into something new. My head pounded, exhaustion clawing at me, but I couldn’t stop. Not when we were this close.“Come on, come on… Fuck!” The defense mechanism had been relentless. Every time I thought I had deciphered part of its logic, it changed again. My body ached from the strain of staring too long, my vision swimming, but I couldn’t afford to falter. Behind me, I could hear the ragged breathing of my companions, the scent of death thick
