Can you at least answer me?”She turns, her glare cutting into me like a blade. “Because you didn’t give a damn!” she screams.“That’s a lie,” I argue, my voice rising.Her hands slam against the table as she leans closer, her hazel eyes blazing. “Is it?!” she snaps. “I called you, Jace. I was outside your house, and you answered the phone. You lied to me.”Her words hit like a gut punch, and I stare at her, confused. “I never lied to you,” I say quietly, but even as I speak, doubt creeps in.Her laugh is cold, hollow. “No? Six months before that, I came to your place. You answered the door, told me you were busy. Said you couldn’t talk, couldn’t see anyone, but you’d call me.
