Chapter 1

Staring at the time on my phone, I feel a surge of anxiety fill me as I run inside the building of Wraith Corporation. Riker is going to kill me if I am late to work today even though it is all his fault. Well, it's his fault and the stupid rush-hour traffic in this city. You would think that after seven years of working for Wraith Corporation that I would know when to avoid morning rush-hour to be on time but I was just too exhausted from last night to wake up when my alarm sounded. For seven years I have been the secretary of Riker Wraith, CEO and owner of Wraith Corporation. Not only that, but I had been his Theta in the Solar Wraith Pack, a liaison that dealt with business deals between the many businesses in the city and Wraith Corporation. As the Alpha, Riker had needed someone who could blend in with the humans of Claridge City and as a half-human-half-werewolf hybrid, I became the top choice seven years ago. I worked closely with Riker, learning his dislikes and likes and br

Chapter 2

Watching Riker wrap his arm around the small of Darcia’s back, I feel my heart begin to break. Riker has never been this kind or caring towards me. Has never had such a gentle expression unless it was in the middle of the night as he made love to me or when we were alone in a passing moment.Yet here he stands before me, smiling brilliantly with Darcia in his arms as he leads her towards his office.“Oh, Cassandra. Bring us some coffee and snacks to my office.” Riker calls out, his piercing gaze turning cold as he stares at me. My throat feels dry as I try to make my brain work. Riker grows annoyed by my increasing silence and so, with some difficulty, I mutter out a yes sir before scurrying down the hall towards the staff lunch room.Thankfully, the room is empty and I quickly start the coffee machine so that I can bring a fresh pot pf coffee to Riker’s office. With the machine going, take this moment to compose myself and try to process what I just saw.Everything must be a misunder

Chapter 3

Two weeks have passed since Darcia walked into Wraith Corporation. She had made quite a stir when Riker personally left his office to greet her, escorting her with his hand on the small of her back to his office. I hate to admit it, but his doting action towards her stung. But not as much as when Darcia and Serena had confronted me.In these two weeks, Riker has accepted Darcia into his office without any qualms, always laughing and smiling when she comes in to visit him. She has been nothing but kind to the staff when she comes, complimenting Anna, the wolf I am training as a new assistant, on her clothes. But I know her true side.Every day Darcia finds some way to make my life at Wraith Corporation a living nightmare during her visits. She has tripped me on more than one occasion while I am in the middle of delivering Riker important documents or a fresh mug of coffee, causing everything to spill across the floor. Riker would come out to investigate what happened, only to find me g

Chapter 4

Hiding in the hallway closet tending to my burn, I can’t help but replay Riker’s words in my mind. For three years I have pined for him as my Mate. Had happily rushed to his side when called like a love-sick wolf in heat. I had cooked his favorite meals and did everything I could to make him smile. Yet all he ever saw me was as a slut, a woman to sleep with and fulfill his own needs. Tears sting my eyes as I slowly slather a burn ointment onto the red wound. I can tell just by the appearance that it will take a few days for it to heal even with what little werewolf power I inherited and decide to slip a tin of ointment into my pocket. This will tide me over until the wound can heal.“Did you hear about the fight in the staff lunch room between your brother and Cassandra?” A woman’s voice sounds from outside the closet door. Shocked, I finish bandaging my burnt arm and creep closer to the exit, opening the door just a crack to hear what is being said about me.“Oh, I heard all about i

Chapter 5

Sitting in the treatment room waiting for my test results, I pull a novel from my purse to read. I had turned my ringtone off to prevent me from hearing any messages from Riker and so far it has worked. I feel calmer and the pain in my stomach has settled to a dull ache. The burn on my arm also stopped aching since being treated as soon as I entered the Pack Hospital. The Nurse had been frantic to see me with a stark white bandage hastily wrapped around my forearm and had rushed me into this treatment room to clean, medicate, and re-wrap it while another Nurse signed me in. Five minutes after they left, the Doctor came in with a worried gaze. I explained how I was burned at work but left out the incident that followed afterward. These wolves are part of Solar Wraith. Anything I say against Riker will likely be relayed back to him, Annabeth, or Seren

Chapter 6

“Cassandra. Cassandra. Cassandra.” Victory says my name over and over again as if chiding a pup. Her sharp glare and disdain for me are clear as day in this small waiting room. I feel suffocated as she walks closer to me, her sneer marring that face of hers. To think people call her a good and gentle she-wolf. What I see before me is a spiteful bitch.“What do you want, Darcia?” I spat out, crossing my arms over my chest. She scoffs, taking a seat as if she has no cares in the world, crossing her slim legs.“Just to talk to you about your pregnancy.” She answers with disinterest. Shocked, my hand moves to cover my small stomach. I nearly lost the pup because of her earlier, I won’t let her cause me more harm to lose it before Riker and I can talk.“My child is of no concern to you.” I snap back, growling at this bitch.“Oh, but it is.” She smiles coldly at me, bringing her left hand up and showing off a glittering ring. One I have seen many times on Annabeth’s hand.“You see, Riker an

Chapter 7

“Cass!” Someone calls as my body is shaken. I groan, the stabbing pain that overtook me now a slight throb. I can feel the wetness between my legs. Smell the iron tang that blood has. Of course, I know what that scent means. Had heard the howl of my unborn pup’s wolf as they died in my womb. I had lost the pregnancy before I could even decide what to do with it. All because of Riker and his new woman.“Cass, you need to wake up.” Groaning, I finally registered the female voice calling out to me, her tone filled with worry and fear.“Grace?” I ask, my voice hoarse.“Thank the Goddess you’re okay.” She sighs out as I roll onto my back and take a deep shuddering breath.“I.” I pause, not sure what to say. I place my hand on my flat stomach, tears finally falling from my eyes as Grace helps me to sit up slowly.“I am not okay.” I whimper out, turning to sob into my friend’s shoulder. Through my sobs, I explain the last two weeks to Grace. How Darcia came to the office and rumors began to

Chapter 8

Three days have passed since my miscarriage and Grace has made it her mission to make sure that I have taken the time off needed to heal. She had commandeered my cellphone for the first night, calling the Doctor who confirmed my pregnancy and explaining the miscarriage to him.The Doctor was sympathetic, promising to email a doctor’s note within the hour for me to take a few days off work for my body to rest properly even though I have werewolf healing. Grace had made the Doctor swear that the note be vague, stating that for personal medical reasons I was to be put on bed res, This was to keep the miscarriage from Riker. He doesn’t deserve to know about the pup after the way he treated me because he is the reason our pup died before they could even take their first breath. As soon as the note appeared in my email, Grace was quick to forward the note to Riker stating I would be away from work and pack duties for a week. Of course his reply email was short, Riker telling me to quit the
