Sitting in the treatment room waiting for my test results, I pull a novel from my purse to read. I had turned my ringtone off to prevent me from hearing any messages from Riker and so far it has worked. I feel calmer and the pain in my stomach has settled to a dull ache.
The burn on my arm also stopped aching since being treated as soon as I entered the Pack Hospital. The Nurse had been frantic to see me with a stark white bandage hastily wrapped around my forearm and had rushed me into this treatment room to clean, medicate, and re-wrap it while another Nurse signed me in. Five minutes after they left, the Doctor came in with a worried gaze.
I explained how I was burned at work but left out the incident that followed afterward. These wolves are part of Solar Wraith. Anything I say against Riker will likely be relayed back to him, Annabeth, or Serena.
The doctor had ordered a few tests, even asking me when the last time was that I had my period – something that I inherited from my human side. Honestly, I could not remember if I even received it. This caused me to have to do a pregnancy test and the thought of bringing a baby into this world scared me. What would Riker think if he knew our rendezvous ended in a pregnancy?
“Theta Thornhill?” Looking up from my novel, I find the Doctor walking into the room with a worried expression. Putting the novel down on my lap, I give him my undivided attention as he sits on the wheeled stool and stares into my eyes.
“I am not sure how you feel about this, but the cause for your stomach pain is due to the fact you are pregnant.” He states, handing me a file. Shocked, I take a deep breath before looking down at what he has given me.
Inside the manila folder are my test results, the word pregnant bolded and highlighted in bright yellow. Not only that but there were pamphlets for my options on how I would like to proceed.
“I know this is shocking news to you.” The Doctor continues, making me look up.
“But you are in the early stages of pregnancy. You have many options on how to handle it but I recommend you talk to the father, whoever he may be.” All I can do is nod before looking back down at the pamphlets.
Pregnant. Me, pregnant with Riker’s pup.
“Other than the pregnancy, what caused the pain?” I ask quietly.
“Most likely stress as well as being badly burned. Did you go through anything upsetting other than that?” He answers, his inquisitive eyes boring into me. Without thinking, I shake my head yes but stay silent. I went through many upsetting things today.
“I see.” He sighs, standing from his stool and placing a hand on my shoulder.
“I recommend that you try to reduce stress as much as possible even if this means cutting back on your hours at work or walking away during a stressful situation to calm down.” The doctor sighs out, turning his attention to the computer where my medical chart is displayed.
“You are still a young woman working in a high stress position beside Alpha Riker. All this stress will complicate the pregnancy if you decide to keep it. I do have to ask due to you being half-human, but is the father a werewolf?” Shocked by this question, I find the doctor staring at me with a stern gaze. My eyes sting as more tears threaten to spill and I nod, looking down quietly at my lap.
“He is.” I confirm, the doctor sighing.
“This complicates your situation further then. As a hybrid, your body may not be able to handle this pregnancy. Anything overly stimulating in your position may cause a miscarriage. Remember, health is wealth. Without your health, you won’t be able to live a life full of happiness.” The warmth and kindness the Doctor gives me makes me smile. He is right. If I want to live a good life, I need to be cautious of my health, especially as a half-human in a werewolf world.
“Thank you, Doctor.” I say quietly, looking up at him.
“Don’t worry about it, Theta Thornhill. A Nurse will be in soon to discharge you, do you need a cab to take you home?”
“No, I can drive myself.” I answer, getting a nod from the man.
“Okay. If anything feels wrong, come here right away and I will see you, this includes any problems with that burn of yours.” His tone is full of concern and I nod, taking his words to heart.
“Also, once you decide what to do about your pregnancy, please give me a call. My number is in the file.” With that, the Doctor leaves the room and I am left alone with my thoughts for just a brief moment. Before long, the Nurse who assisted me earlier came in with a tablet and a clipboard. We go through the discharge process before the Nurse wishes me good luck. With a sigh, I leave the exam room and make my way towards the exit.
“How long till we see a Doctor?” My steps pause when I hear the familiar deep voice coming from just a few feet away. Nervous, I peek from around the corner of the wall and notice Riker with his arm wrapped around Darcia. His face is full of concern and yet the Nurse looks absolutely disgusted at her Alpha.
“As I mentioned, all the Doctors are busy. You will be seen soon.” The Nurse replies. Riker Snarls, but the Nurse doesn’t cower. She may be an Omega, but the Hospital here runs on an emergency-based protocol. Here in the Pack Hospital, the Alpha’s word is not law.
“Besides, your companion doesn’t seem to be injured.” The Nurse continues as if Riker’s snarl did not happen at all. Riker scoffs and leads Darcia towards the waiting area with such tenderness that it feels like my heart is about to shatter into millions of pieces. Wanting to get her away from him, even for a brief moment, I take my phone out and send a text to Riker.
Cassandra: Riker, I heard you are here at the hospital too. I am in waiting room three just down the hall. Could you come to see me? I am pregnant and we need to talk about what to do.
With the text sent, I move towards waiting room three and close the door behind me. I know Riker holds family in high esteem. If he knows that I am carrying his pup, he will come here immediately.
It isn’t long before the door slams open, scaring me into jumping and whirling around. I expected to see Riker standing there, to feel his happiness and excitement at the mention of a pup.
What I did not expect was to see Darcia sneering at me, her eyes filled with hatred and disdain as she slowly walked towards me, her heels clicking on the tiled floor. A sneer forms on her face as she eyes me from head to toe and a chuckle leaves her lips.
“Well if it isn’t the little home wrecker.”
“Cassandra. Cassandra. Cassandra.” Darcia says my name over and over again as if chiding a pup. Her sharp glare and disdain for me are clear as day in this small waiting room. I feel suffocated as she walks closer to me, her sneer marring that face of hers. To think people call her a good and gentle she-wolf. What I see before me is a spiteful bitch.“What do you want, Darcia?” I spat out, crossing my arms over my chest. She scoffs, taking a seat as if she has no cares in the world, crossing her slim legs.“Just to talk to you about your pregnancy.” She answers with disinterest. Shocked, my hand moves to cover my small stomach. I nearly lost the pup because of her earlier, I won’t let her cause me more harm to lose it before Riker and I can talk.“My child is of no concern to you.” I snap back, growling at this bitch.“Oh, but it is.” She smiles coldly at me, bringing her left hand up and showing off a glittering ring. One I have seen many times on Annabeth’s hand.“You see, Riker and
“Cass!” Someone calls as my body is shaken. I groan, the stabbing pain that overtook me now a slight throb. I can feel the wetness between my legs. Smell the iron tang that blood has. Of course, I know what that scent means. Had heard the howl of my unborn pup’s wolf as they died in my womb. I had lost the pregnancy before I could even decide what to do with it. All because of Riker and his new woman.“Cass, you need to wake up.” Groaning, I finally registered the female voice calling out to me, her tone filled with worry and fear.“Grace?” I ask, my voice hoarse.“Thank the Goddess you’re okay.” She sighs out as I roll onto my back and take a deep shuddering breath.“I.” I pause, not sure what to say. I place my hand on my flat stomach, tears finally falling from my eyes as Grace helps me to sit up slowly.“I am not okay.” I whimper out, turning to sob into my friend’s shoulder. Through my sobs, I explain the last two weeks to Grace. How Darcia came to the office and rumors began to s
Three days have passed since my miscarriage and Grace has made it her mission to make sure that I have taken the time off needed to heal. She had commandeered my cellphone for the first night, calling the Doctor who confirmed my pregnancy and explaining the miscarriage to him.The Doctor was sympathetic, promising to email a doctor’s note within the hour for me to take a few days off work for my body to rest properly even though I have werewolf healing. Grace had made the Doctor swear that the note be vague, stating that for personal medical reasons I was to be put on bed res, This was to keep the miscarriage from Riker. He doesn’t deserve to know about the pup after the way he treated me because he is the reason our pup died before they could even take their first breath. As soon as the note appeared in my email, Grace was quick to forward the note to Riker stating I would be away from work and pack duties for a week. Of course his reply email was short, Riker telling me to quit the t
Standing in front of Riker’s apartment, I take a deep breath and calm my nerves. I have been inside this apartment many times in the past three years, know every room and furniture there, but this is the first time I have ever felt so nervous being here.I know the nerves aren’t because I suspect Riker is home. I had called the office on my drive here and had talked with Anna, the she-wolf standing in as my replacement while I am on bed rest, and she confirmed that Riker was in a meeting. After telling her that I would be returning to work tomorrow, Anna sounded relieved and excitedly told me she couldn’t wait to have me back. To say I was surprised is an understatement. Last I remembered, she had become Darcia’s little minion inside Wraith Corporation. No, what is causing my anxiety is that I can smell Darcia’s scent coming from the front door. Taking a deep breath as I exit my car, I look at the looming building and try my best to calm my nerves. Last night after returning home with my belongings from Riker’s apartment, the man himself had called me to express how happy he was that I would be returning to work today. Not only that, but he asked if I was free to meet him at a hotel for our usual rendezvous.I declined, stating that I was still on bedrest and just wanted to sleep. He was upset by my refusal but could do nothing else other than to try and persuade me. Thankfully Grace had walked in at that moment and I took that time to hang up stating I had a visitor. Hanging up while Riker demanded to know who was at my house with me felt refreshing. Looking at her retreating figure, I try to wrap my head around what just happened. Cassandra, the she-wolf I grew up with who was eager to obey orders and even eager to accept my advances in bed, just quit. Not only that, but she left my pack.I know for the last two weeks, things between us have become tense - that she has become distant from me – but I never thought things had gotten to the point where she would throw a tantrum in the middle of my office like that when it is only her first day back at work. From what I know, Darcia has been nothing but kind to Cassandra. Hell, she even helped Cassandra pack her belongings yesterday when Cassandra went to get her things from my apartment. So why would Cassandra state that Darcia had my Maid throw everything away?“A-Alpha Wraith?” Looking up at the woman standing just outside my office, her blue eyes wide with trepidation, I realize that I have done nothing but stand in place like an idiot since Cassandra’s outburst.“What is it?” I
Staring at the time on my phone, I feel a surge of anxiety fill me as I run inside the building of Wraith Corporation. Riker is going to kill me if I am late to work today even though it is all his fault. Well, it's his fault and the stupid rush-hour traffic in this city. You would think that after seven years of working for Wraith Corporation that I would know when to avoid morning rush hour to be on time but I was just too exhausted from last night to wake up when my alarm sounded. For seven years I have been the secretary of Riker Wraith, CEO and owner of Wraith Corporation. Not only that, but I had been his Theta in the Solar Wraith Pack, a liaison that dealt with business deals between the many businesses in the city and Wraith Corporation. As the Alpha, Riker had needed someone who could blend in with the humans of Claridge City and as a half-human-half-werewolf hybrid, I became the top choice seven years ago.I worked closely with Riker, learning his dislikes and likes and bring
Watching Riker wrap his arm around the small of Darcia’s back, I feel my heart begin to break. Riker has never been this kind or caring towards me. Has never had such a gentle expression unless it was in the middle of the night as he made love to me or when we were alone in a passing moment.Yet here he stands before me, smiling brilliantly with Darcia in his arms as he leads her towards his office.“Oh, Cassandra. Bring us some coffee and snacks to my office.” Riker calls out, his piercing gaze turning cold as he stares at me. My throat feels dry as I try to make my brain work. Riker grows annoyed by my increasing silence and so, with some difficulty, I mutter out a yes sir before scurrying down the hall towards the staff lunch room.Thankfully, the room is empty and I quickly start the coffee machine so that I can bring a fresh pot of coffee to Riker’s office. With the machine going, take this moment to compose myself and try to process what I just saw.Everything must be a misunders

Hiding in the hallway closet tending to my burn, I can’t help but replay Riker’s words in my mind. For three years I have pined for him as my Mate. Had happily rushed to his side when called like a love-sick wolf in heat. I had cooked his favorite meals and did everything I could to make him smile. Yet all he ever saw me was as a slut, a woman to sleep with and fulfill his own needs.Tears sting my eyes as I slowly slather a burn ointment onto the red wound. I can tell just by the appearance that it will take a few days for it to heal even with what little werewolf power I inherited and decide to slip a tin of ointment into my pocket. This will tide me over until the wound can heal.“Did you hear about the fight in the staff lunch room between your brother and Cassandra?” A woman’s voice sounds from outside the closet door. Shocked, I finish bandaging my burnt arm and creep closer to the exit, opening the door just a crack to hear what is being said about me.“Oh, I heard all about it.
Two weeks have passed since Darcia walked into Wraith Corporation. She had made quite a stir when Riker personally left his office to greet her, escorting her with his hand on the small of her back to his office. I hate to admit it, but his doting action towards her stung. But not as much as when Darcia and Serena had confronted me.In these two weeks, Riker has accepted Darcia into his office without any qualms, always laughing and smiling when she comes in to visit him. She has been nothing but kind to the staff when she comes, complimenting Anna, the wolf I am training as a new assistant, on her clothes. But I know her true side.Every day Darcia finds some way to make my life at Wraith Corporation a living nightmare during her visits. She has tripped me on more than one occasion while I am in the middle of delivering Riker important documents or a fresh mug of coffee, causing everything to spill across the floor. Riker would come out to investigate what happened, only to find me gl
