Chapter Forty-One Vaegon

VAEGON As Xeraphina and I climb into her truck, a surge of anxiety floods through my body, tightening my chest and quickening my heartbeat. The metallic scent of the engine fills the air as Xeraphina revs it up, the roar of the powerful machine echoing in my ears. The weight of impending loss hangs heavy in the truck, intensifying the bitter taste of desperation in my mouth. Cassius, that vile asshole, threatens to snatch Xeraphina away from me, and I won’t let that happen.“Xeraphina, I know you told me I have nothing to worry about. But please don’t go to Cassius. Stay with me tonight. The lodge’s beds are so comfortable. I promise to let you sleep. I won’t touch you beyond cuddling you.”“If it weren’t because I promised Cassius I would go to him, I would stay with you, Vaegon. It’s best I go see what’s gotten him all riled up. He said it was important, and he seemed anxious. I need to make sure he’s okay and not on the verge of committing suicide or something. Cassius hurt me, bu

VAEGONI feel disoriented, like the world has shifted off balance. The overwhelming feeling of uncertainty clouds my emotions, and a surge of betrayal and anger courses through me as I realize Cassius was in Xeraphina’s room last night. A mixture of frustration and resentment causes my heart to pound in my chest. The person who should have spent the entire night with Xeraphina was me. Despite Cassius betraying her, she still allowed him the privilege of sleeping with her. If he fucked her, I’m going to kill his ass!‘How long have we been here, Vane?!’‘As soon as you fell asleep, I assumed control. We walked in human form for several miles into the forest until I felt it was safe enough to shift. We’ve been asleep here in front of her door all night. Which means they were inside before we arrived.’‘She promised we had nothing to worry about!’‘Shut up, Vaegon, so I can rip this guy to shreds!’Vane rises to his feet, and even in his wolf form, he looms over Xeraphina by a few inches

Chapter Forty-Three Xeraphina

XERAPHINAAs my phone alarm goes off, I groan, feeling the exhaustion coursing through my whole body. It’s clear I could use a day to relax and unwind. Blinking rapidly, I reach for my phone, determined to silence the annoying alarm. Suddenly, I’m pulled into a warm and comforting embrace, strong arms encircling me. In that moment, my mind struggles to process and remember the events of the previous night, particularly the memory of falling asleep with Cassius by my side. The unique scent that emanates from him enters my nostrils, prompting a contented hum to escape my lips.“Good morning, my queen.” Glancing up, I see Cassius’s eyes are swirling with gold, showing that his wolf Talon is at the forefront. Xariah comes to the forefront of my mind and she and Talon speak for a few moments before retreating and letting Cassius and me have full control.“It’s going to be a long day. Are you sure you are up to it, Xeraphina? You need your rest. I don’t mind doing this thing with the lawyer

Chapter Forty-Four Cassius

CASSIUSAfter Charity kicked me out of the house, I made a wise decision and withdrew most of our funds from our joint account. I deposited that money and my winnings from bull and bronc riding into my parents’ account, which they had opened for me when I was born. To appease Charity, I had left a small amount of money in our joint account. I didn’t want her to go feral. But now, as I look at what remains, it doesn’t surprise me that only five dollars are left in the account.“Let’s close that account. There is no point in keeping it open, as I only set it up when we got married to make Charity happy.”“I’ll need to contact her since both your names are on the account.”“Never mind then. I’ll just use that account to wire the three thousand a month I’ll owe her from here on out. How much money do I have in my savings account?”“I’ll print it out for you, sir. But you have close to seven hundred million dollars, sir.”“I need a check for two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Make it

Chapter Forty-Five Cassius

CASSIUS I arrived alone in my truck, leaving Xachariah and the Silver Crescent Moon warriors a couple of miles behind. As I spotted the group of men gathered around Charity, I contacted Xachariah. Within minutes, he arrived with reinforcements. It’s clear that we’re outnumbered by the Howler Moon’s Pack. We have confirmed Alpha Joseph’s suspicions that Charity is not trustworthy. Now, we face over fifty warriors from the Howler Moon Pack, while our group of twenty stands ready to confront them. Approaching Charity, I notice her arms crossed over her chest, tapping her long, manicured fingernails on her arm, and a smirk on her face.“You were told to come alone, Charity.”“Well,” she says, smirking and rolling her eyes. “We all know how I like drama. Now hand over the check and the documents and let’s get this shit over with. I’m on the verge of going into heat and my wolf is desperate to be marked by our mate.”“I have a question for you first, Charity.”She rolls her eyes and glance

Chapter Forty-Six Vaegon

VAEGONVane sprinted through the forest with lightning speed, him unleashing all the built-up anger and desire to kill Cassius. However, the faster he ran, the more enraged we both became. Our shared consciousness echoed with shouts, urging us to turn back and track down that bastard.Who knows how long we’ve been sprinting through the dense forest, the towering trees casting dancing shadows on the ground? Vane halts at the glistening stream, its gentle babbling filling the air, calming our hatred. He bends down to drink from the stream, the water refreshing and cool against his parched tongue. Feeling a desperate need to cool off the searing heat radiating from his enraged body, he plunges into the crystal clear waters. As the coolness envelops him, he realizes the depths are greater than expected, and the sensation of weightlessness calms our turbulent emotions. After thrashing around in the cool water for a while, he trudges out of the stream, refreshed and wanting to hunt.‘We sho

Chapter Forty-Seven Vaegon

VAEGON“It’s Charity who has caused all this. You shouldn’t be so angry with Cassius. He’s just having a hard time, coming to terms with everything,” Xeraphina says. The fact she's putting the blame onto someone else other than Cassius makes my blood boil. I can't take this anymore. That’s when I pause my actions, clutching a massive chunk of intestines in my hands as I glance over at Xeraphina. “Don’t sit there and tell me I shouldn’t be angry, Xeraphina. He’s a man, holding a high rank within the pack as a beta male. It is not fair to blame his ex-wife for everything he has done. He made the choice to marry her and allowed all this chaos to unfold within the pack, all while knowing you were his true mate. He needs to face the consequences of his actions.”Xeraphina winces, affected by my harsh words. She glances out the window closest to her, squirming in her chair. “I apologize, Vaegon. You are right. I’m overwhelmed by everything that has transpired in the past few days. It’s beco

Chapter Forty-Eight Vaegon

VAEGONSkinning and chopping, the moose brought Xeraphina and me together, and we could bond a bit. We were just kidding around and having a blast. Xeraphina was good once she stopped thinking about Cassius.During our conversation, we discussed various topics, including my background and alpha training. I shared my passion for vintage cars and my talent for fixing engines with her. In fact, my dad and I have a hobby of buying old cars, fixing them up, and then deciding whether to keep them or sell them. Interestingly, Xeraphina suggested I might get along well with her youngest brother, who is a year older than me. It turns out that he shares the same enthusiasm for classic cars as I do.We discussed various topics like the lodge, her love for horses and cattle roping, and our family backgrounds. Cassius’s name never came up. Xeraphina mentioned a friend who passed away a few months ago. She got lost in thought and Cassius crossed her mind. I changed the subject to learning horse rid

Chapter Forty-Nine Vaegon

VAEGON It took us forever going down several twisted tunnels and stairs before we made it to a massive door that leads to the dungeons. We must be several levels underground, at least eight from the amount of stairs we went down.Xachariah unlocks the massive door and pushes it open. Then he ushers me inside and growls when Cassius’s scent wafts towards us.“We don’t use the dungeons that often. Cassius is the only one down here right now. So it shouldn’t be hard for you to find him. He’s towards the end, is all I know,” Xachariah says, pointing in the direction I needed to go.“I’ll lead you to our bunker afterwards, so you’ll know where it is for future reference. Instead of taking a left like we did to get here, you take a right. Good luck, man. I’ll be right here if you need anything.”Glancing around, I see several jail cells akin to that of the human jail cells. Where there are cots and toilets, and that’s about it. The only difference is that they welded the cells into giganti

Chapter Fifty Cassius

CASSIUSXachariah drives my truck as we head back to the pack house. He vents his anger, yelling and cursing about what happened with Xeraphina this morning and the incident involving Charity. With each outburst, he slams his fist down on the steering wheel, distorting it to where it seems unusable. When he realizes he can’t hit the steering wheel anymore because of its fragile state, he bangs on the dashboard. I’m relieved Xachariah isn’t directing his anger towards me this time, or else he would kill me. However, I know once we reach the pack house, I will face the consequences. At some point, he stops the truck, and we step out. I receive several blows to the ribs, some causing fractures, and a strike to the head, all while he continues to curse at me. After venting his anger, he forces me to drive the remainder of the journey. As Xachariah settles into the passenger seat, a sense of foreboding washes over me as I see his glazed eyes. I know he is reaching out to Alpha Joseph to di
