As Xeraphina and I climb into her truck, a surge of anxiety floods through my body, tightening my chest and quickening my heartbeat. The metallic scent of the engine fills the air as Xeraphina revs it up, the roar of the powerful machine echoing in my ears. The weight of impending loss hangs heavy in the truck, intensifying the bitter taste of desperation in my mouth.
