“This place is fantastic!” Jessica’s voice rang out through the villa as they stepped inside. The air conditioner blasted cool air and it was a reprieve from the heat outside. The excitement on Jessica’s face had Malachi smiling.The door opened to a medium sized kitchen and a living room beyond that. To the right were stairs leading to the bedroom. From the living room you stepped onto a wooden deck that housed a table and chairs.To the right of the deck was a splash pool with sun loungers as the deck stretched out and more stairs became visible that led to a higher deck that also had access to the bedroom. The view that stretched out in front of them rendered them speechless.Malachi put their luggage down in the bedroom as Jessica walked out onto the deck. Malachi joined her with two cold beers from the fridge and handed one to her. After the morning that my ears bled, I started having blackouts, losing time. I’d sit in my office busy with paperwork and I’d look up and it would be three hours later, the same paperwork still in front of me. I had no recollection of what happened during this time and I decided to open Karani’s chest again.I didn’t want to tell Adara about the blackouts, there was nothing any of us could do for me anyway and I didn’t want her to worry. You can drink your first cup tomorrow morning, unfortunately you’ll have to suffer through any side effects, I don’t think it’s wise to give you anything for pain or nausea,” she said to me and I looked at her. “I’ll be with you every step of the way, and I mean it,” she added.Her words of support meant more to me than anything else. Despite all my lies and the pain I’d put her through, here she was, prepared to walk this road with me. I still felt like myself with no symptoms and I had convinced myself that it was possible that Karani was wrong. I went back upstairs after I ate breakfast with Adara and she stayed downstairs to help Norah with the kids. I just needed a few minutes alone, to center myself.
