Chapter 41: I want you to understand what I feel for you

Derek drove straight out of the city and soon, the bustling New York highway was left behind. As he drove further away, the roads turned narrow, surrounded by trees and large mountains. It became eeriely quiet, the trees rustling gently as the afternoon breeze ruffled through them. The tarred road turned uneven and dusty and thirty minutes later, he pulled to a stop at the edge of the road. "Let's go." He said, stepping out of the car. "Are we just going to leave the limo here?" Camilla asked as she stepped down and shut the door. "Don't worry. Nothing will happen to it. People hardly come here." Derek answered, taking her hand in his. "Where exactly are we going?""You'll see." He said as he followed a path and began to walk deep into the trees. The atmosphere was still and serene, filled with the sound of birds chirping from the trees. Camilla held on tight to his hand, trying not to stumble over the numerous tree roots and stumps. They got to a little steep hill and she had

Chapter 42: You can touch me

The drive back to the city was silent, but it was a comfortable one. Camilla sat quietly, her cheeks stained with a deep blush, her lips pulled into a smile. She couldn't stop thinking about the steamy kiss she and Derek had shared after she agreed to take their contract marriage forward. She remembered how her body had come alive under his touch. How his fingers had gripped her with possessive strength, his lips hot and insistent on hers. And when they broke away, staring into each other's eyes silently, their breaths mingling, it had been a magical moment. Her heart was still thudding with excitement and she shut her eyes and turned her face towards the window. "Be still, my heart." She whispered under her breath. But her excitement surged on. She had never felt this way for a man. Any man. It didn't help when Derek took her hand across the seat, his thumb gently stroking her skin. She turned and looked at him, her blush deepening when he smiled at her before turning back to th

Chapter 43: The text message

"Fucking hell." Derek cursed under his breath when the knock sounded. He ignored it, burying his nose in the curve of Camilla's neck and kissing her fervently. The knock came again and Derek growled low in his throat, annoyed at the disturbance. Camilla giggled and tried to slide down, but his grip around her tightened and held her firmly to him. "Who is it?" He snapped. "Forgive my disturbance, Mr. Donovan, but your dinner is getting cold." Wilson's voice sounded from the other side of the door. "Thank you Wilson. You may leave." Derek dismissed him and turned his attention back to Camilla. He claimed her lips in another passionate kiss, his hands expertly stroking her entire body until she was moaning from pleasure. "Fuck, Camilla. What you do to me..." He groaned, sucking on the soft skin on her shoulder. He carried her to the bed and lowered her on the covers. "Derek...""Don't speak." His raspy order was all she needed and she gladly fell silent. When his hands closed over

Chapter 44: Is something bothering you?

Camilla reread the text over and over again, trying to decipher if there was a hidden message within. How was it possible that her father was still alive all these years? Didn't Nick kill him? Years back when she thought he died of a heart attack, she had conducted a funeral for him, but had not seen his dead body. She had been a mess, too heartbroken from Nick's ill treatment and abuse. Had Nick been lying about killing her father? But how sure was she about the text? What if someone was trying to lure her out? Trying to kill her, like they almost did at the wedding? What was she to do? She slowly wiped her eyes and bent down to pick the phone. The text instructed her clearly not to tell anyone. Would she be making a big mistake if she told Derek? Just then, the door opened and Derek walked in, holding a dinner tray. There was a soft smile on his face, and it disappeared immediately he saw the look on hers. "What is it?" He asked. Dropping the tray at the foot of the bed, he wal

Chapter 45: I want you back

Camilla walked slowly into the alley, her heart thudding within her. It was eeriely quiet, and the wind ruffled discarded papers across the pavement. The alley reeked of urine, and the walls on either sides were covered in graffiti. She held her purse tighter to her side, her eyes darting around frantically. A few cars drove past the front of the street, and a number of passersby walked past, but no one ventured into the alley. Where was the anonymous texter? she wondered. She had done everything on the text; refrained from telling anyone and coming alone. She had done her part. Now where were they? Someone stepped into the alley suddenly and she jerked back, flattening her back against the wall. The strange man was dressed in rugged baggy clothes, with a hat shielding his face. He walked past her silently, barely acknowledging her. For a minute, he turned and stared at her, probably wondering why she was standing alone in the middle of a quiet alley. He turned and walked on wit

Chapter 46: You've been warned

"I want you back." Nick said without hesitation. Camilla stared at him like he had just sprouted horns. He had to be insane, she thought. Did he think she would crawl back to him just because he held her father captive? "You're crazy." She said, wrenching her arm away from his grip. "I would rather die than come back to you.""Then your father dies." Nick snarled. "You know me, Camilla. I can be ruthless if I want to be. Just one phone call and he's dead.""What did I ever do to you Nick?" Camilla yelled, her voice slightly unsteady. "Keep your voice down you bitch." Nick hissed, clamping his hand over her mouth. He cocked his head, listening for any sound that would indicate someone was heading their way. All was quiet. He slowly released her and she pushed him away from her. "You have one week." He said harshly. "One week to end your joke of a marriage and come back to me."Camilla knew it was impossible. There was no way she would go back to Nick, whether her father's life was

Chapter 47: You're leaving me?

"Where have you been?" Camilla felt her heart leap immediately she looked up and saw Derek standing in the living room, staring at her. His face which was usually brightened by his charming smile was devoid of emotion this time. She couldn't tell if he was mad. He had to be, she thought. She told him she would be home all day, which had been a lie. "I–I took a walk." She stuttered, forcing the lie out of her mouth. "Is that so?" Derek questioned, still in that calm deep voice. He was standing beside the grand staircase, arms crossed before him. His eyes watched her, dark and brooding, as if he was trying to figure out her lies. "Yes." She nodded. Unable to keep eye contact with him, she looked away. "I, uh, I know I told you I would be home all day. But I got bored and decided to take a short walk.""And your short walk took three hours?" Derek asked, arching a brow questioningly. Camilla gulped nervously. Dang it, she cursed inwardly. He must have returned home long ago and rea

Chapter 48: I hope you find your father

"You're leaving me?" Derek asked in a voice laced with panic. "I don't know what to do Derek." Camilla whispered. She walked closer to him and held his face. "I don't want to leave you, but I want to save my father.""Camilla your father is dead." Derek said quietly. "I know my words are cruel, but it's the truth. Nick just wants you back because he can't stand the fact that you've grown successful.""You don't know that." She said, dropping her hands. "I know he fed you those lies because he knows you would do anything to save your father." Derek continued. "Don't make the mistake of going back to him.""But I have to Derek." Camilla argued. "I don't want to go back to him for anything, but if it is the only way of saving my father, then I would."Seeing that she wouldn't change her mind, Derek had no choice but to change his tactics. He couldn't let her fall for Nick's trick. "I'm sorry, but you're not leaving." He said. "Derek you can't stop me." Camilla said angrily. "I don't

Chapter 49: Some news

The next day, Camilla wished she could come up with some excuse not to attend Derek's party. He was acting so cold and standoffish towards her, and who could blame him? She had ruined what had been a lovely relationship between them. Even when they had no feelings whatsoever for each other, their fake marriage had been convenient for both of them. Then she had to ruin it with her lies. As she sat before him that morning, having breakfast, she couldn't help but yearn for that cheerful and naughty side of his. He was staring straight into his phone, his brows slightly pulled together. He didn't even acknowledge her when she joined him, and when the silence lengthened, she couldn't take it anymore. "Derek?" She called softly. Derek looked away from his phone and frowned at her, his brows raised questioningly. "Yes?" He replied when she kept staring at him. "Are you still upset at me?" She asked further. "I didn't mean to make you mad.""I'm not upset Camilla." He replied, turning

Chapter 50: A parting gift

The night of the party flew by like mere minutes, and Camilla felt like someone on a train, watching everything slowly move past. Dressed in a luxurious silver dress with matching heels and jewelry, she drew the attention of everyone at the party, including women. The men stared at her lustfully, openly complimenting Derek for having a beautiful goddess for a wife. Derek played his part perfectly, pulling her close to kiss her, and then bragging about his perfect marriage. But even with the warm grasp of his arm around her, and the charming smile he sent her way, Camilla could see the flash of emotion in his eyes. He was still upset with her for choosing to go back to Nick, despite everything she had been through. If only he knew she had plans of her own. Only a fool would go back to Nick after everything, and she was no fool. Fortunately the party ended without incident, and the guests started leaving at midnight. The drive back to the estate was silent, with Derek's gaze focus
