Beauty Sleep - Chapter 53

Shannen’s POV Before I go to check on Ora. Carron encourages me to get a drink and maybe a bite to eat. She’s right, I forgot when I ate last. I headed to the kitchen for a much-needed energy boost. I ignored everyone along the way. I need to get there and back as quickly as I can. I told myself. I don’t even know why. Jo and Ora’s medical treatment is not my responsibility. But it feels as if it is. I headed directly to the serving hatch, asking for a glass of cold water and whatever they had ready at that point. I stood to the side as I waited. As I did, I looked around to see a few faces that didn’t belong here. “Hey, I know you. You’re from Alpha Academy,” I said to a couple of boys sitting at a table. “I watched you fight. You were good. But we were better.” The boys laughed and introduced themselves. “Yeah, you must have a better trainer than us. But overall we won,” Harrison says, mocking me. I sat down next to them and thanked them for coming to our aid. “At the end of

Beauty Sleep - Chapter 54

Ora’s POV I opened my eyes to a girl staring at me. She is a bit older than me. She was tanned with silver hair. Her appearance was quite unusual. I could tell she was excited to see me. “I wasn’t expecting to see you this soon, Aurora.” She says When I try to see beyond her, everything becomes fuzzy. “Where are we I?” I ask. She looks around herself and snickers. “We’re sort of in the dream realm, Aurora.” “Ora,” I correct her. She smiles at me. “Ora, I’m Ellie. A hybrid, very similar to yourself.” I looked at her cautiously. “If I’m dreaming, you’re a figment of my imagination. Right?” She gave me a half smile and looked to her left. “Ora, we have a common enemy and, according to a friend, you can help me stop her,” Ellie turned her head toward me. “Ora, please help me stop Millicent.” “What I need to do is wait for my birthday, and get full access to my power. Track her down and kill her.” Ellie’s smile disappears. “Ora, you will get yourself killed if you go

Beauty Sleep - Bonus Chapter

Jasper’s POV Nathan has done nothing but ignore me for a while. He has been holding Jo’s hand, reminding her of all the things she has to live for. Carson had to leave because his aura was too much. “She didn’t want you to know she was back. She worried you would tell Sarah. Then Sarah would know Jo hadn’t followed her orders.” I told him, trying to justify why I hadn’t told him of her return. Nathan growled at me. “Stay mad all you like. I respected her wishes. If the roles were reversed. You would have done the same and we both know it.” He looked at Jo, then at me. “I would have. I’m not mad at you about that. I’m mad at you for knowing there has been a princess hiding in my kingdom for how long, and I didn’t know. Do you know how incompetent that makes me look? What if she died in my country? That could mean war.” I should stand there and defend myself. He is right. “As for my mate, I will deal with her when I see her.” He practically spits out the word mate. I would hate

Cold as Ice - Chapter 1

Ellie’s POV “Who are you?” Ora asked me. It’s a reasonable question. All she knows is that I invaded her mind while she wasn’t awake. It’s difficult to talk about my past. But if it helps my cause, I have to do it. “Once upon a lifetime. I, Eleanor Walker, was the eldest child of Wolf King Angarr and Witch Queen Iduna. A princess by birth and the heir to the Scandinavian kingdom.” I bite my bottom lip when I mention my parent’s names. I miss them so much. “Usually, witches don’t show any signs of power until they approach their 18th birthday. An elemental gift can appear at any point after a witch turns seventeen. I’ve had my elemental power from birth. Which was why my parents hid me away.” I waved my hand above a glass of water that was sitting on the table. I watched Ora’s face as it turned into a block of ice. She looks at me and her jaw drops. “It was just my sister, Anabelle, growing up. Best of friends. But because of me, we were isolated. I felt so guilty, bu

Cold as Ice - Chapter 2

Benson’s POV It was so dark and the flames were so high, I could almost see anybody. I had to step towards Ora to see who she was referring to. I could see a figure but not make out if it was male or female. I squinted and finally noticed it was a girl. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I borrowed Phillipe’s vision. There must be something wrong with his eyesight. Maybe the stress has gotten to me. The girl then got to her feet, and I knew “Rhea?” I yelled, still not quite believing it was her. I had dreamed of finding her for so long. I was so overwhelmed that tears left my eyes as I sprinted towards her. I just kept thinking about the fact I’d finally found my baby sister. I ran to her, calling out her name. She came running to me. As soon as she got close, she leaped into my arms and nuzzled her face against my neck. “Thank you, goddess. Thank you.” I whispered as I wept. A wave of emotions I had suppressed hit me all at once. I held her tight, and I never wanted to le

Cold as Ice - Chapter 3

Benson’s POV Ellie hired a small electric car and drove us for miles. I called shotgun, so I could get a good view of where we were going. I’m not sure if I fully trust Ellie. Rhea taps me on the shoulder and grins at me, “It’s not really called Dragon Valley. But with it being near a volcano and with the geysers, it might as well be. There is steam all the time, like a dragon breathing.” Seeing her smile makes me so happy. As Ellie drove, I couldn’t help but admire the vast openness of the countryside. All the mountains have snow at the peak of them. Thankfully, thanks to Phillipe, I don’t feel the cold. “Ellie, we should take them to see the tectonic plates. Seeing the plates isn’t that exciting, but the surrounding area. Oh, Benson, it’s beautiful.” Rhea bragged happily. I don’t even need to see her face to know she’s smiling. “When we have the time,” Ellie responds. “But we are passing Kolugljúfur. If you want to stop, I can charge the car,” Ellie offered. Rhea bounce

Cold as Ice - Chapter 4

Oras POV I took a small bite of the cereal bar Rhea handed me for breakfast. I may grimace as it tastes of cardboard. But I’ll be grateful if that’s all I get. “My stomach’s going to think my throat has been cut,” Benson says after he ate his bar in two bites. I guess he’s still hungry. “Don’t worry, bro. We’re going shopping. We’ll get you some proper food.” Rhea laughs, causing him to grimace again. Guess he doesn’t enjoy shopping either. “Come with me,” Ellie says to me. She guides me outside our ice home. As we walk, Ellie questions me about my parents. To which I have no answers. I told her about growing up with my aunts in England and how Millicent attacked my home. “That’s how I ended up at Beta Academy with my Aunt Jo.” I then told her about my time at Beta Academy and learning I was a shifter. How my life had never been the same since Millicent attacked my home in England. “Seems your parents went to great lengths to keep you safe,” Ellie remarks as she takes my ha

Cold as Ice - Chapter 5

Ellie’s POV It’s nice to have Ora and Benson around for Rhea’s sake. Rhea is great. She’s friendly and outgoing, and there is no doubt a popular member of her pack. But I’m not. I don’t have much experience socializing and have very little life experience to talk to he about. This makes our conversations short. At least now Rhea has company. Ora’s birthday is not far away, and she needs to be ready. No doubt Millicent will try to capture her before then. That’s if she can find her. I’ve been pushing Ora since she arrived. She is strong physically, and the girl is strong-willed. But she’s not fully in tune with her elemental power. Not yet anyway. The one thing Ora has is motivation. I guess having Millicent wanting you dead and needing to kill Marco to save someone you love is an excellent motivator. Every day after training, Ora poses the question of when I’ll be returning to Beta Academy. Last night, I told her the answer was yes. Ora jumped for joy and hugged

Cold as Ice - Chapter 6

Ellie’s POV “I made a promise to help Jo.” I stood my ground firmly, informing the king. He rushes to the gate and grabs hold of the bars. “How can you help Joanna? When our healers can’t,” he questions me in a raised voice. “The same way I saved her life last week. You thought that blood transfusion worked?” I smirked at him. “Pathetic.” His eyes flickered from brown to black. “His wolf is trying to reach me. He wants us to submit. He wants to know if you are telling the truth,” Silvi informs me. I want to ask how he is speaking to her. But I don’t have the time. “I mean no harm to anyone here,” I told him. “I can’t risk it. We have the best healers in the country. They will save Joanna,” he boasted proudly. I was prepared to enter the academy with or without permission. But with the Wolf King being here, and him having the best healers in the country, I know when I am not welcome. I turned to leave. “Very we...” “Ellie? Ellie? Is that you? Oh, thank all the goddesses

Cold as Ice - Chapter 7

Evangeline’s POV I pulled the hood of my cape over my head and looked at the ground as I approached the servants’ entrance. “Can I help you?” A guard asked as I reached the door. I stepped aside, letting a few people pass. I am going to have to speak to him. The fewer people that see me, the better. “I said, can I help you?” he repeated himself in an angrier tone. He reached out to grab me. If he touches me, he will pay with his life. Edgar will make sure about that. But I can have a man punished for doing his job. So I lifted my head and pulled my cape back to reveal my face. “Your majesty. I’m so sorry.” He spluttered as he fell to his knees. I quickly pulled the hood back up and told him to get to his feet. “I was just out gathering a few items. There was no need for an escort,” I lied. “I’m so sorry. Please,” he begged. “I am grateful you are prepared to challenge everyone. Maybe if there were more guards like you, we wouldn’t have lost so many lives during the war.” That w
