Chapter Thirty-one

Aurelia's POV It had been a week since Djurek rescued me from Dante and the shaman. But something weird has been happening: he hasn't come around to take Melissande away from me. When Djurek mentioned the fact that I had put him and the pack in trouble I reasoned with him and understood what he meant. But Dante has not shown up ever since then, neither has he sent a message or a threat. Melissa was here with me, still as unresponsive to medications as ever. The royal physician said she would never wake up, but I ignored him and continued to read medical books and magic spells. The royal physician, who was a stout white haired man scoffed and called me silly when he saw my attempt to bring Mellisande back to life. I was in her room that morning, reading a old resuscitation spell into her ears when he walked inside without knocking the door. He looked at me as though I had lost my mind, and he walked to the far end of the room and switched off the steam powered life support machine.

Chapter Thirty-two

AURELIA'S POVA loud and deep gasp escaped from my throat as my eyes landed on Djurek. He stood at the door, dressed in his voyage clothes of black overall coat and boots. His hand leaning on the knob, his shadow darkening the room. Amelia and Alicent turned around instantly, but the shock on my face had dissipated already. Djurek threw a warning glance at me, after I gasped, and I knew it meant not to utter any other word. The room was silent, with everyone seeming to process the development behind Djurek’s announcement, when Alicent suddenly stormed towards Djurek. “You bastard," she said, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him. “How could you do this to me? You promised me and I gave everything up for you. “No, " Djurek said in objection, raising his hand to cut her off. “You never gave me anything. Everything you've done in this place is to solidify your claim to the throne as the Queen and noble woman of my pack. There is nothing else I wanted other than peace. And you

Chapter Thirty-three

AURELIA'S POV True to Djurek's words, Amelia came into my room with a blue sequin and matching shoes. She came into the room with a handful of maids, but because I didn't trust any of them, I sent them away and wore the clothes and the makeup by myself. It was past 7PM when I finished dressing up, and by this time, carriages of all sorts had lined in the compound. The compound which was once dead with silence, had suddenly come alive with boisterous chattering and greeting from the gentry men and women who filed into the castle. I stood by the window, leaning on the railings, as I looked down at the guests, stepping out of their carriage and heading into the castle. They smelt of wealth and affluence, designer clothes and black tuxedos. Who would have thought that I would meet with this calibre of people in my life. And as it was, I would not only be meeting them, they would bow respectfully to me and kiss my hands. The fourteen year old me was living her best life. I peered deepe

Chapter Thirty-four

Aurelia's POV The devil was before me, hands outstretched, eyes glittering with mischief. He recognised me immediately, his lips curving into a smirk, as he moved away from Djurek and closed the gap between us with a giant stride. “Pardon me for her shyness,” Djurek said softly, yet throwing a warning glance at me, when I took a few steps backwards and tucked under my gown.“Oh really?” The devil asked, mouth agape in sarcasm. Bastard! “Yes,” Djurek answered with admiration. “She's quite demure you see.”He reached for my hand and pulled me to stand beside him, just as the dark skinned Luna excused herself and walked away. My eyes widened in shock as she spun around, leaving me with a weird hedge to suddenly grab her. I wasn't finished discussing with her, and I hadn't got her contact information yet. “This is a very important person in front of you Aurelia.” He snaked his arms around my waist and turned to face to the man, whose blood cold eyes sent darts into my chest. “This is

Chapter Thirty-five

Dante's POV "I do not wish to remain in this place with you Dante. Let me go." As much as the spiteful anger in my heart wanted me to snap at Griselda and tell her to go to hell, I couldn't bring myself to. And why? It was because we would be in trouble. The whole Pack would be in trouble. Griselda must not leave, she had to stay here, in the pack with me, by my side. Aurelia was a special wolf, but she didn't know what she was capable of, or the immense power she wielded. Even with her escape with that loser Djurek. My whole existence and that of the entire pack rests on her shoulders, and I didn't even know how to react to it. Especially now that I had also fallen out with the Shaman. I didn't know how to feel; I always thought I had it in control and that I was the embodiment of perfection, but... I was no longer sure now. Grovesmoor and Gareth had probably turned their back now. I rose from the bed and went to stand by the window of my bedroom, pulling the curtains aside an

Chapter Thirty-six

Aurelia's POV“You never told me you were having an affair with Grovesmoor Valley Moon.” I thought I had heard the words in the dream, but the migraine which shot through the left side of my head forced me out of my trance, into the consciousness of my environment. I gripped the duvet tighter as I forced myself to sit on my back, gritting my teeth against the discomfort. After wiping the blurriness in my eyes with the back of my hands, I raised my head and looked in the direction of the voice. The dark figure leaning against the door seemed familiar for a second there. “You have disgraced this pack, Aurelia,” he said again. “I can't believe you chose to stoop this low.” “I don't understand what you are talking about Djurek?" I retorted. What sort of groundless accusations are these?”Djurek didn't say a word in response. He only moved away from the door, taking slow but heavy strides towards me. The look on his face was that of seriousness and displeasure but why? I saw no reaso

Chapter Thirty-seven

Aurelia's POV Djurek was not shocked by Alison's announcement. Whereas I had let out a gasp in utter dismay, he merely rolled his eyes in derision.Alison on the other hand looked confident putting her hand on her waist as she cat walked towards us with a smirk on her face. “I know you don't think I'm being serious," she said to Djurek. “But you know the kind of trouble I could cause for you, if you refuse to take up your responsibility as the father of my unborn heirs to your throne”I turned to Djurek, and was about to speak when he placed his hand on my shoulder. “the sun rays have really increased. We should go into the castle and settle down."He took my left wrist in his hand and was about to pull me along when I stopped and snatched my hand out of his grip.“You have just gotten a woman pregnant” I said, letting my tone be that of correction and anger. “You have to attend to her and take care of her. I am sorry if I am being rude but I don't think I wish to speak to you any

Chapter Thirty-eight

The journal tumbled from the table, and the pages fluttered open like wings in the breeze. My eyes fell on the exposed words, and despite my hesitation, curiosity gripped me. I picked up the leather-bound book and began reading. It wasn’t a diary as I had initially assumed but a record of the history of the land. The North and South Kingdoms had long been divided, and each kingdom had its own ruler. As I skimmed through the lines, my heart raced. I reached a section detailing an ancient tribe of wolves—the Andals and the Nine Wolves. They were described as powerful, mystical wolves, thought to be extinct, who once lived in harmony with the moon and the stars. They were the guardians of a powerful queen.Something about this felt familiar, eerily familiar. I read the passage twice, my fingers shaking as I traced the words."The Queen of the Nine Wolves... her bloodline was connected to the Southern Kingdom, and she was meant to rule over the Andals."A shiver ran down my spine. My brea

Chapter Thirty-nine

Melissande's POV ( 9 months ago)My room had been turned upside down. It felt as though it had been raided by an army of bandits who were looking for the evidence that will convict them so that they can destroy it. The bed had been removed out of its place and flung to the other side of the room. My wardrobe had collapsed, with my clothes strewn about the room. All my books had been thrown around as well as the unused makeup on the dresser. With my eyes widened, and my jaw drooping, I dragged my legs into the room. My legs wobbled as I dragged it along, my heart beating with fatigue. Who had done this! Who had the nerve to invade my bedroom and thrash it in this manner!I lifted my gown and crossed to the other side of the room, taking care not to step on the broken mirror. My heart beat rate kicked into overdrive and I wondered how long till I finally black out. This wasn't a game or a movie, as some part of my mind had deduced it to be. Someone was indeed out to kill me. And the

Chapter Forty

Melissande's POV (before her period in comatose) The realization that came with the contents of the letter felt like a dream, and I remained there, staring at the inked words until I realized that I was running out of time. Since Eloria had taken most of my clothes, I packed the remaining items, which were a pair of sandals and two gowns. Hester had left a full tumbler of the weird-smelling herb. This reminded me of Doctor Allira's betrayal and the fact that she was going to get away with it. I downed the herb in one gulp and stepped out of the room, closing the door behind me. I stopped and looked around, memories of the first time I set foot here flashing across my mind. I would be fine. Things would turn out well for me, and I would look back and smile very soon. Dante and Drey had taught me lessons, and I would be sure to apply them in my life. I would make sure they regret everything they did to me. I would cause them twice the pain they caused me. As I walked into the center
