CHAPTER 11

OLIVIA.I thought we had died, but the dead people do not breathe, especially not like this.I don't think they (dead people) get tired either, and even less enjoy these precious acts; with all the respect that the afterlife deserves.I hugged Carl, I rubbed his back supporting the weight of his anatomy, sweeping the sweat with my palms, or maybe pouring more. Or maybe soaking that ground with drops that seemed not to dry.I wanted to talk, to tell him everything he had made me feel, but how to do it with my throat closed and tired? I could hardly breathe, Carl took all my breath away."You are absolutely beautiful..." I remembered his words, the way he released them. That man had arrived that night with problems, something had happened in his life before our date and I felt committed to making him forget all the negative. If we were to remain casual, at least as the occasion, I would have to be the good thing. He stood up, got off of me, and giving me a few kisses, lay down next to m

CHAPTER 12

OLIVIA."Are you a public or private accountant?”"Both," he answered, "although at the moment I'm in private practice."I nodded. After a few long seconds of absolute silence, he bent to put his can down and asked again:"Why couldn't you finish your degree, Olivia?"I looked at him. I sighed deeply."I had to work," I explained. He nodded slowly, taking the lime covered by the bag spreading another loaf, and putting it together as well. I waited for him to finish to do the same, but he indicated that he would do it for me.And without expecting it, when I was about to take a bite to my lips of the one that was already assembled, he touched my hands to stop me, denied it, broke it in two, and placed one of the halves in front of my face.I looked at him surprised, he wanted to feed me. Literally.I brought my lips closer, opened them, and bit down. As he did so, he bowed his head, smiled thinly, and bit his lower lip. He shook his eyebrows and shook them."You're beautiful." He exhal

CHAPTER 13

OLIVIA.A few hours later (I didn't know how many exactly), I found my face pressed against his chest. And I felt such a divine comfort...Carl was awake. I sighed and smiled. And more, when I noticed him rubbing my hair.A phone rang."It's mine," he said.He got out of bed and opened his eyes wide, staring at the floor. He made a face of circumstance and horror."We've knocked everything down, Olivia." He pointed at the floor and laughed. His phone was still vibrating.I moved quickly to the edge of the quilt and widened my eyes."Oh my God, what a mess! I'll fix it...""Let me help you," he interrupted me."Please, don't worry. Go, take the call."He walked to his pants and checked his pockets, while I was busy picking everything up.I went to the bathroom to get paper and towels. He answered and made conversation (without hiding or turning away) during my labor. I pretended I wasn't paying attention, but logically, he was aware very well that I listening."Again?" he asked the oth

CHAPTER 14

OLIVIA.I did not expect all this commotion. Something was happening and had to be work of the head of the Human Resources Department, by advice or requests of the Director of this company, because I could not explain that all the employees of the insurance company stopped their work and interrupted their lunch hours a few minutes because of me."Happy birthday, Olivia. Congratulations!", they said to me with hugs and huge smiles, after singing one of the oldest songs in musical history."Thank you very much. Thanks. Thank you!" I'm replying a little overwhelmed if I must confess. In all the years I'd worked for (and with) those people, they'd never celebrated anyone's birthday. It was all new to me."Olivia?", the Director called me somewhat seriously."Yes, sir."He hid a genuine smile, I think he was amused by my formality."I'll wait for you in my office," he said in a low tone, expressly for me and so the others, who were still in mid-heat, would not hear."Okay", I replied and s

CHAPTER 15

OLIVIA.I was summoned by Human Resources and talked to her, my boss's girlfriend, about the changes to be made. I asked her the same question: if everything that was happening had to do with their relationship. She told me the same thing: no, and it looked like they had both rehearsed down to the smiles. She also pointed out what she needed from me and things to sign. There was another surprise: the salary I would be earning from the following fortnight. As I learned more facts, the more I tried to process it all. Then, she told me to go to the Accounting Department and I greeted the company's accountant, who had been with the insurance company for a couple of years. We talked for a long time, I told him my story and he informed me that I would start on Monday.I had to ask him about my current position, I was worried because I would be left without a replacement, and I was very aware of the clause of the fifteen days' notice that is required when giving notice for leaving work. But

CHAPTER 16

CARL.I was urgent to get there because I needed to get out of that place as soon as possible.I parked at the back of the building, getting a free place for an easy exit. The door officer and security gave me one of the tickets to the parking lot, the greatest treasure. So I put it in the glove compartment. I turned off the vehicle, got out with the belongings required for my appointment, and activated the alarm as I closed the door. The back entrance of the insurance company was smaller than the main entrance and my car was diagonal to it; I had to take a few steps to get inside. This is the moment to confess that my predicament had dressed —before arriving— in another suit: invisibility. I was sure that Olivia, the woman I'd been sleeping with, was there. Something told me that my luck couldn't be so well-adjusted as to send me to that building on one of her days off. So I must also confess that the idea of parking in the back area was intended to keep me from running into her. I'd

CHAPTER 17

OLIVIA.I was applying makeup to one of my eyes in front of the bathroom mirror when my phone rang with a call.I ran out to take it thinking I'd been delayed and my boss was already downstairs. But it wasn't him.The screen flashing left me speechless for a few seconds."Oh my God..."I looked around totally shocked and smiling at the same time, Carl was calling me! He was calling me!I inhaled deeply, exhaled fast all that air that was about to make me burst. I took courage and I toke the call."Hello?" I heard."Hey.""Hello?" There was a very brief silence on the other end of the line. "Excuseme, It's Olivia there?"I had to sit up in bed."Yes, is she," I answered jokingly. He knew right away that I was playing crazy because he exhaled just once and was amused. I loved that."I'm Carl. Carl."I think he repeated jokingly."I know." I laughed lightly. "How are you, Carl M?"He lightly laughed."I'm very well, thank you. So... you saved me on your cell phone, don't you?"Now it was

CHAPTER 18

CARL.Something happened that night. One of those parts of us is kept hidden, sometimes nonexistent, or not coming to the surface. Feelings that are created out of nowhere, like when we develop an allergy, some strange pathology, or some viral process we must have suffered from as children. My cousin's future husband called me a few minutes before I arrived at my commitment to assure me that his wife was already anxious and waiting for me with the toast ready. And what was the reason for the entertainment? The couple's official engagement, with "a la carta menu", the best bottle of champagne, and a few guests.I waved, quite happy to be there with them. I sat down, ate the appetizer and main course, and we joked about anecdotes while we drank white wine too (not mixing), waiting for the arrival of that special drink.I must confess that I liked that the couple did not prepare something too exclusive. It's good to celebrate in private and when you're with friends like them, since work

CHAPTER 19

OLIVIA."Olivia? It's you?" I heard someone ask in a voice that sounded too surprising. "Hey, it's good to see you!""Carl?" My mouth opened wide.Carl Malaver, Carl M, my Friday lover, whom I had just texted, was standing next to our table. What the hell is he doing here?He looked at my companions."Sorry for the interruption...""Not at all," somebody replied. I don't know who it was; my boss's girlfriend or himself. I couldn't notice anything but Carl, who was looking at me from above with a wide smile on his lips. Although there was something in his look... What the fuck was Carl doing in that place? I couldn't believe it. I was... dumbfounded."Ehh..." I seemed slow for a moment, my mouth went dry. He'd approached our table wearing a formal suit jacket and a casual pose with his hands tucked into the pockets of his expensive pants. I'd always seen him well dressed (and well undressed), but that occasion was different. I had to react.I put on my best smile (I think I succeeded)

CHAPTER 20

OLIVIA.I couldn't focus on anyone or anything else, anymore, after that thick, sexy voice entered my brain and knocked it out.Or boiled it.However, I was able to pretend so well that all my pieces were still in place for the time (which seemed too long to me) that I lasted looking for a suitable moment to get up and pay attention to the man sitting behind me.I wanted so much to obey him... I knew he was pissed off and I was curious as to why, to know what the exact point of his annoyance was. He and I were nothing, just lovers; and that in many cases is nothing. In most of those same cases, it turns out to be nothing more than that, and it's always better to understand it that way, it's always better not to feel. For a moment I wanted to look at him, but after that encounter, I assumed I would look too obvious if I did. For that fact, I settled for the effort of listening to him, where the laughter of his friends, and his cousin, where the toasts and speeches explained what his ou
