Chapter 41: Ancalagon

I watch my mate sobbing over my brother. We had tried, all of us had tried to heal him. We can mend cuts and broken bones, but we can’t replace scales that have been brutally whipped from a dragon’s body.My mother’s distress had been bad enough. Then there had been my father, who was causing the ground to shake and shift, only balanced by Merethyl’s own earth element, keeping him steady. And now, I have to watch my mate fall apart because her dragon, my brother, has been whipped so hard that he may never fly again. We were, at least, able to heal his nerve endings, but without scales, flying would be too painful and he would never be able to carry Eliane on his back again. When Yhendorn and Kenna arrived, I asked him if his books had anything in them about dragons regrowing scales. He didn’t recall anything but said he would look.“How long before you’ll know if you can save him?” Eliane asks, still laying over his snout.“I don’t know. I haven’t had to treat a dragon with injuries th

Chapter 42: Ancalagon

“Ajax, are you in this class?” Cedric asks him.“No, I was making sure that Eliane and Cal got breakfast. There was an…incident.”Cedric looks at me, assessing me for a moment.“Jax, why don’t you stay. It’s Eliane’s first class and Cal looks like he needs to hit someone. You have enough control to spar with Eliane and then I can give Cal someone to fight full on,” he says. I don’t care much for the wolves, but I do like Cedric. Maybe that’s because he’s a rider, or maybe he’s a rider because he’s different than other wolves.“It's her first class, so you want me to teach her technique?” Jax asks.“Are you comfortable with that?”“Yeah, plus you’ve got Kendrick here, so if I screw it up, I’m sure he’ll set me straight,” he says, smiling at the Alpha wolf.“You know it, Jax,’ Kendrick says, smiling back as he warms up.Cedric turns back and looks at me, nodding his head for me to follow him. I grab the sword that I always use in this class. It’s my mother’s sword from her family, so no

Chapter 43: Eliane

Avani is a very patient teacher. I wasn’t expecting that. He’s really good at helping me to connect with my earth element and according to him, since I have elf DNA as well, it should be the easiest element for me to connect with.“Close your eyes,” he says, his voice mesmerizing, like ancient words floating on a breeze. I do as he says.“What do you smell?”“People, elves mostly, but also a mix of scents, probably the hybrids.”“What do you smell beyond that?”I stretch my mind and my senses out. “Dirt, grass, trees, different types of trees,” I say.“And beyond that?” he says softly, making me feel like I’m going into a trance.“The cold of the mountain tops, the snow and ice up there. And then, there’s the heat from deep in the earth, the lava rolling around from deep down.”“Very good. Can you grab hold of that lava? Are you able to pull on it?”I frown. It’s a liquid, but I’m surprised when it seems to respond to my desire to capture it.“Yes,” I say.“Good. See if you can bring i

Chapter 44: Ancalagon

I had intended to stay with Iniko until Eliane arrived. However, when Kaylani came up, saying that Everett would be there soon to run some tests, I took the opportunity to go have lunch with my mate.“Cal, before you go…” Kaylani begins.I stop, waiting. This could go in a lot of different directions. I’m sure my family has been talking about my relationship with Eliane and Jewels when I’m not around.“There’s been a claim put on you,” she says gently.I snarl. Of all the things that Kaylani could have said, that was not one that I was expecting.“Who?” I growl. If Kaylani wasn’t an elemental dragon, I know that I’d be smelling fear on her. But she knows that she has nothing to fear from me. I may be her Alpha, but she and the other elementals are nearly as strong as I am, except they only have one element.“Alpha Kendrick,” she says.“Fucking wolves,” I say, turning and stomping toward the main house. He’d known when he’d seen me earlier that I’d find out about his claim on me. And no

Chapter 45: Jewels

I come awake, with no understanding of why I’m furious, but I feel ready to breathe fire all over anyone nearby. And then I see him. The big, white dragon. Ancalagon.“You,” I growl.“Calm down, Jewels,” he says to me.“What did I tell you? What did I say I would do if I ever saw you again?” I snarl. “Where’s Iniko?”“I’ll take you to him. You need to calm down. Do you remember that he was injured? That we brought him here?”“YOU didn’t bring him here. Where is his mother? His father?”I hear someone bellow their dragon’s call from behind me. I turn quickly, expecting a fight, but instead I see a woman with red hair. I lean forward and sniff her fire scent.“Fire Dragon,” I growl.“I’m Tana, Jewels. Do you remember me? This is my mate and rider, Cedric,” she says, gesturing at the man who is quickly walking up to her, as he carefully watches me.“Why have I been called here? You do not seem afraid of Ancalagon.”“No, we are not. He was angry and he was attacking some wolves. You took o

Chapter 46: Ajax

We all watched with varying levels of horror, intrigue, and in cases like Revalor, desire, while Eliane and Cal fought in their dragon forms. I know everyone calls her dragon Jewels, but that’s not who she is. She’s Eliane when she’s a dragon and when she’s not, just like the rest of us.“Are they going to kill each other?” Naida, my step-sister asks, rushing up. Kaylani adopted her and Everett adopted me. Once they were mated, my brothers and I accepted Kaylani as our mother and she accepted us as her sons. The same was true for Everett accepting Kaylani’s adopted daughter, Naida, making all of us a family.“No. Eliane is Cal’s mate. He’d never hurt her.”“She doesn’t seem to recognize him as HER mate though. What happens if she tries to kill him?”“We have to hope that he’s strong enough to withstand whatever she throws at him.”A moment later, we all feel what she ‘throws’ at him. The powerful wave of elements blasts all of us. Since I’ve felt her blast before, I’m not as shocked as

Chapter 47: Ancalagon

I knew I had to keep Jewels pinned down until she passed out or fell asleep, whichever came first. I told my father and the others to keep the students back. No one needed to witness me subduing my mate. My mate who absolutely hates me.She struggled and snarled against me for hours. I felt every one of her commands to let her go, but I’m an Alpha too. I refused to allow her commands to work. To her credit, she never cried, and never begged. She fought and she ordered me to release her until she finally wore herself out.“I love you, Jewels. You are my mate,” I tell her for the thousandth time.“You lied to me,” she says softly, her voice layered with hurt.“I kept the truth from you, yes. But not because I wanted to be deceitful. I wanted you to get to know me before you decided that I was bad. I knew from the moment that I met your human form that you were meant for me.”“What does she say about you?”“Well, she doesn’t like me either,” I say, feeling her laugh underneath me.“What h

Chapter 48: Eliane

I come awake slowly, warm and comfortable except for something hard poking into my back.I groan softly, pushing back against whatever it is, hoping to move it out of my back. Instead, I hear a deep voice moaning and an arm wraps around my body…my very NAKED body!“What the…” I say, leaping up. I turn and see a very muscular, very aroused Ancalagon. “What are you doing?” I exclaim.“Hmm? What?” he asks, coming awake slowly. That is until his eyes open and bleed to black as he takes in my nakedness. I swear I see his scales ripple under his skin, alternating in colors.“What am I doing out here? Alone! Naked! And with you??!!” The reminder than I’m naked has me slapping my hands over my breasts and covering all my private parts.“Too late. That gorgeous image is burned into my memory,” he purrs lazily. He slowly rolls to his hands and knees and begins prowling toward me.“No! Bad Ancalagon,” I say, pointing at him before quickly putting my hand back over the apex of my thighs.“That’s n

Chapter 49: Eliane

This time when I wake, I shoot up, looking around, unsure where I am.“Hey, sleepy-head,” my roommate says. “Did you sleep well?” She’s sitting on her bed, reading one of her school books.I frown, looking down at myself. I’m completely naked.“What happened?” I ask.“What do you remember?” she asks, instantly serious. What do I remember? I remember….OH! Oh wow! I remember. I feel my cheeks heat and I know I’ve gone scarlet. That is only confirmed when Anala begins chuckling.“Yeah, you reek of my Alpha. Not that he didn’t have your scent all over him too when he brought you here.”“He brought me here?” I ask, feeling strangely pleased with that.“Yeah. You were out cold. He didn’t say much, just that if you didn’t remember anything to go find him.”“How long have I been asleep?” I ask, looking at the sun shining outside our room.“Not as long as you were gone,” she says, making me snap my attention back to her.“How long was I gone?”“Before or after your dragon attacked Ancalagon?”

Chapter 50: Ancalagon

I wanted to be there when Eliane woke up, but with Kendrick’s claim, I knew I needed to get out of the school for a while. I made sure that Ajax was going to get her fed and over to the claiming ground. He’s the only one I trust right now around her, well, besides the dragons, but I know my friend. He would do anything to protect her for me.There’s something off with him. I need to find out what it is, but it will have to wait until after I defeat Kendrick. Ajax is usually a positive person and he always pays attention, but he’d been distracted when I’d returned after talking to Doc Everett last night. When it’s time, I fly into the stadium, not bothering to slow down as I land hard, making the ground shake underneath me. Then, I roar at Kendrick, expressing my anger at his claim. He’s on the other side of the stadium, looking like some old school gladiator with armor covering his hips and upper thighs, his upper body is bare, but he has ropes crisscrossed over his chest. I guess thos
