CHAPTER 81 - COOKING CHALLENGE

Avery's POV “I am finished,” I whispered to myself as I looked at the material I had to work with, how could I create anything talk less of something creative with these materials. “What am I going to do?” I asked myself thinking about the whole situation for a minute, I couldn't lose my chance to secure this job so there must surely be a way to fix this problem. “It can't be this hopeless,” I told myself, determined to find a solution to this problem. I wouldn't have been given a test like this if there was no way out, so I had to figure out that solution and get the job. The first thing I had to do was to figure out the materials I had, on the outside, it looked like all I had was a pack of noodles and a cup of water but that couldn't be all that was there, this was a kitchen after all, I was sure there were leftovers of something, I just needed to find them and figure out a way to use them for my meal. “A fridge!” I said out loud, every kitchen had a fridge, I was sure I could

CHAPTER 82 - FINALLY A CHEF?

Avery's POV “What rubbish did she put together, is it even going to be edible? Looks pretty but will it taste decent at least?” The whispers continued, all the chefs were critiquing my work, I hadn't even served it for tasting but everyone had an opinion about it, some liked it, some didn't, it scented really nice and looked nice too but the taste was what would determine if I got the job or not. “Quiet everyone, we will all take turns tasting the food Avery has made and come to a conclusion after that,” Jake said, as the head chef, I thought he was the one who tasted the food to determine if I was employed or not but letting everyone taste it was a different ball game all together and for some reason it made me even more nervous. So the meal was set on the table and I was made to stand close to it in an exhibition manner and then all the chefs formed a circle around it, taking turns to taste the food as the circle went round until the last person did, I looked at the faces of t

CHAPTER 83 - FIRST DAY AT WORK

Avery's POV “So when can I start work?” I asked Jake, after the whole emotional moment, we all had a feast and after that we were all relaxing, so because the kitchen was so efficient and everybody did their work on time they end up having a lot of free hours after they have concluded their tasks. “You have already started work,” Jake replied. I didn't understand what he meant, how was this any work we were just eating and relaxing. “The director is out right now, when she returns you will need to meet her to negotiate your pay and all but apart from that you are good,” Jake explained, one would have expected the first day at work to be very hard and intense but that wasn't the case here, of course, the cooking test was hard and nerve-racking but after it was over I literally had nothing else to do. “Okay, so could you at least show me around the kitchen?” I asked, I just wanted to acclimate myself to the kitchen so I could do better. “I can do that chef,” one of the other c

CHAPTER 84 - WHO IS THE DIRECTOR?

Avery's POV “It's ready but we still haven't decided on what toppings to use,” one of the chefs said, now from what I discovered from my little time in the Kitchen, one of the requirements to be a chef and work in the kitchen was to also be a baker, you weren't required to do it all the time especially if you didn't come to bake but it was for times like this I suppose. “What can we use?” I asked in a panic, our time was running out and we needed to deliver on time. “Let's use honey,” Jake said and bought some fresh honey drizzling it on the cinnamon biscuits, and giving it to the server. We were all holding our breaths and praying they liked it. “So this is what it means to be a chef?” I asked myself as I thought about the whole situation, the task of fitting people's state buds was one of the most difficult tasks ever. “What are you thinking about?” A chef named Margaret asked me, she seemed to be very quiet but she knew her onions. “What type of person would I need to b

CHAPTER 85 - A NEW LOVE STORY

Avery's POV “Wait hold up, who is the director?” I asked, looking at Ella and the other chef. “She is of course,” the chef said, pointing to her and looking at me in surprise. “Do you live under a rock?” Jake asked jokingly, they all acted like I should have known but I had absolutely no idea. “I do apparently because I didn't know who the director was until five seconds ago,” I said looking at Ella who seemed to think it wasn't a big deal. “So who was the friend you called last night?” I whispered in Ella's ears, she just chuckled and gave me a knowing look, she didn't call anyone last night, she was just playing around. “So what if I didn't get this job?” I asked her in a whisper, everyone seemed to have gone on with their work since it was still afternoon and left the both of us to ourselves. “We need cleaners too, you would have fit somewhere for sure,” she whispered with a smile. I couldn't understand why she was helping me but I was so grateful that I finally had this goo

CHAPTER 86 - ALMOST TOGETHER

Avery's POV “So you are a coward,” I said to Jake silently, he was my boss but I didn't care. I had not known Ella or Jake for a long time but I could already tell they would make a lovely couple. “Call me whatever you want,” Jake said almost immediately, what would it feel like to be loved by a man in this manner? I didn't know but I was going to make sure that Ella could tell me. “Wine!” Ella announced as she re-entered the kitchen, I was so happy to see her face shining so brightly. I might not know what that felt like but I suddenly had the urge to give her everything I didn't have. “Just sit here while we finish up with the food,” Jake said to her and I looked at the both of them intently trying to understand their chemistry. Her Ella looked at him with those eyes and at that moment I knew that their feelings were mutual, she was already in love with this man, so why couldn't he see that? “Ella can I speak to you for a minute,” I said almost immediately, I couldn't help mys

CHAPTER 87 - VVIP 3

Avery's POV “What is it?” Jake asked looking somewhat irritated, Ella had recoiled and was just standing at a corner feeling very embarrassed. “Chef VVIP 3 is asking for you,” the other chef replied looking very anxious, a gasp escaped from my lips and I noticed that about the same time, Ella gasped too. Ella was the director. If she was scared of this couple then they really were torn in the flesh and I hoped we had not annoyed them with the meal we served. “Please come again…repeat what you just said,” Jake said to the other chef, he seemed to have lost his cool and was panicking but if you didn't pay a lot of attention you wouldn't notice. “Chef, I said VVIP 3 is asking for you,” the other chef repeated again, he had broken out in a cold sweat and looked like he was going to wet his pants. “Okay, let's find out what they want,” Jake said trying to keep his cool, I knew that Jake would be the one to get in trouble if the guests were not pleased and I knew he would cover for all

CHAPTER 88 - A VERY DRAMATIC TURN

Àvery's POV “I can tell this meal was your idea,” the woman finally said with a smile, the idea was in fact mine but this was no time to take any credit because the truth of the matter is that if things had gotten out of hand everyone would have faced it so there was no need to accept all the credit for myself. “I apologize for disappointing you Ma’am but this idea was curated and deliberated by the entire kitchen, the same way every meal we serve is carefully deliberate and decided on by all the chefs,” I responded with a smile, her husband looked up at me and smiled. “Smart girl,” the man said with a deep baritone, it almost sounded like a roar and the hairs on my body stood. I actually had goosebumps on hearing his voice, I couldn't speak for a few seconds and then I found my voice. “Thank you, Sir,” I said bowing. I didn't plan to but it just came naturally. I was very sure that there was something strange and different about this couple but I didn't have the time to ask and s

CHAPTER 89 - ALONE

Avery's POV “Avery!!!” Ella screamed, bringing me from my thoughts, I was lost in my own world trying to soak it all in. I looked up at her giggling softly. “Sorry, zoned out for a minute,” I said to her, walking up to her and watching her blush as I noticed the love bite on her neck. “Got laid didn't you?” I whispered with my hand on her shoulder, she literally turned red from embarrassment. “No actually but really close to that, I doubt I would be able to walk if we actually did it,” she whispered shyly, her eyes wondering to where Jake and the other chefs were celebrating with some wine. “I am just not ready yet and he said that was okay but I'm scared he won't be able to wait,” she whispered, I could tell by this behavior that it was going to be her first time and she was still very scared of taking that step. Just then Jake's eye turned towards her, it was as if he could feel her attention on him and he looked at her with eyes that adored her. She took in a sharp breat

CHAPTER 90 - A BIG DEMAND

Avery's POV “What do you mean Ma?” I said taking the towel from her and covering myself with it, did she see me when I transformed? I looked at her in confusion, I was sure I had heard wrongly, did she just ask me to be her daughter? She was advanced in age and her husband too so I supposed they already had children. If that was true then why did she need or want a daughter? “I said to be my daughter,” the woman repeated again with a smile, looking into her eyes I could tell she was very sad and I didn't know why, she had everything her heart could desire so what was making her so sad? “Why do you need a daughter Ma’am? Or do you only have sons?” I asked the woman trying to understand where she was coming from. It felt strange to want to make someone a part of your family, especially if you just met them and know nothing about them. “Twenty years ago, I lost my daughter, she would have been around your age by now and I think I want you to fill that gap,” the woman said lookin
