Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-One - The Forwarding

Thirty minutes later, Luna stood in front of Moira’s door. She had pressed the buzzer, and she could hear footsteps coming in from inside, so she waited. She hadn’t known where Moira was staying until a few days ago, she had been scrolling through the news and had stumbled on a small magazine’s headline. They had done an article on ‘The Mother of Business’, that was what they had called her. They had written an article on her life, her work, net worth, where she lived and a few quotes by her. Basic stuff. Small magazines wrote articles like that, on prominent people in the spotlight, to help boost their viewership and ratings. Apparently, according to the article, Moira was not living in the home she shared with her husband- which was the same one Luna knew since she was married to Justin- for a while because of some business she had to take care of, and she needed to be closer to the business. That was where Luna had gotten the address. She stood in front of the house now, it w

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Two - The Clarity

Leaving Moira’s house, Luna went back to the house, to Justin. She walked into the foyer, she dropped her car keys on the table right beside the door. It was midnight already, she had just parked her car in front of the house, it would keep there till the day rolled in. She was tired, bone tired, and she didn’t think she could do anything else other than to go to bed this night. She had had more clarity about the last six years in one night than she had had for the last six years. The irony. She stepped into the living room, and Justin was there. He was seated at the edge of the couch, he stood up immediately as he saw her. Luna watched his eyes go urgently from her head all the way down to her toes, and then they came back to her face. There was anger, mixed with a host of other emotions, they swirled like storms in his eyes. “Where have you been?” he demanded. “I told Jake not to leave you, I told him to stay with you, damn it.” Luna heard the frustration in his voice, the t

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Three - The Lovemaking

Not needing any more invitation, Justin’s hands tightened around her waist even more firmly, he took control of the kiss and deepened it. One of his hands came up to grip the back of her neck, he held her head firmly, kissing her like his life depended on it. Luna welcomed the aggression, she needed it, in fact. She had been feeling tired and wrung out way too much these past few days, she needed to feel something else. And it looked like that something else was going to be this. Raw, sexual, powerful heat. She moaned into his mouth again, Justin’s other hand had started to move underneath her top, his fingers splayed over her bare flesh. Luna felt heat seared into the parts of her body Justin’s fingers were on. Was she on fire? Heat seared through her, and it felt like it was coming from within. If ever a woman needed to die by internal combustion, it was like this. Both of Justin’s hands came back down, he hefted her up from the back of her knees. Surprised, because she hadn

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Four - The Difference

Luna slowly opened her eyes, she squinted against the sun rays coming in through the blinds, she covered her face with her hand. She tried to get her bearings. As her brain processed, she tried to bring the events of the previous night to the forefront of her mind. And then it all came rushing back. Luna didn’t jump out of bed, she didn’t jerk or act startled. She just lay in bed, eyes open and staring blindly at the sheet wrapped around her. Oh shit, she thought silently to herself. She had slept with Justin, again. And this time, she had initiated it. Luna took a minute to marvel at her boldness, as she remembered how she had thrown herself at Justin. Unlike last time though, she didn’t bother to chastise herself. She had been lucid and very aware of what she was doing the night before when she moved in on Justin, she hadn’t been naive. And she wasn’t even now. She had wanted what happened between them last night, to happen, and she didn’t feel any different now that the sun

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Five - The Saturday

Luna drank her juice to step down the last forkful of spaghetti she had taken. Her plate was cleared, so was Justin, she noticed as she glanced at his plate. “So?” she asked, her lips twitching as she stared at him. He was seated opposite her, they were still in the kitchen, but now the mess Justin had made cooking had been cleared away and they had just finished eating the simple pasta Luna had cooked. Justin still had that annoyed look on his face, but Luna knew it was more because he was unwilling to let go of the fact that his surprise breakfast in bed plan hadn’t taken off, than anything. “It’s definitely better than a ruined kitchen and no food at all,” he replied. Luna threw her head and laughed. Pouty and disgruntled Justin was definitely a sight to behold. “I still cannot believe that ridiculous thing is a five star meal!” he exclaimed, talking about the dish he had been trying to make. Luna laughed some more, her belly rolling with the action. Tears started to co

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Six - The Threat

Flashback. Luna looked at herself in the mirror, she ran a hand gently down her hair. She was getting ready for the press conference she was about to give. The interviewer and her camera crew were downstairs even now, in the living room, waiting for her. She had put the news out last week that she had something to say regarding the news that had been circulating in the media about her father, she was planning to debunk it. Luna knew she was new to the scene and she didn’t know much about the press and the power plays that were involved in it. She didn’t know the inner workings of it all, but she knew they had all heard about her plan to make a statement. She knew the news had gotten to them all, there was no way one station heard about it, and the others didn’t. The press was a vine, even she knew that much. And yet only one studio had gotten back to her. A small news company, New York Morning. The interviewer had reached out to her yesterday and scheduled a meeting with her for

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Seven - The Same

Present. Luna stared at the screen of the tablet in her hand, she read the headline of the article on it. She scoffed, shaking her head. “I cannot believe this,” she said. She scrolled, read some more. “I cannot believe this,” she said again. She looked up at Rita, who was seated on the stool at the head of the kitchen island. “This is her doing, this is so her work, it had Moira written all over it.” Rita looked like she wasn’t hearing anything she didn’t know before, she shrugged. “You don’t have to convince me,” she said. “I know she’s behind it. I mean, even before I called my sources at the the Daily World to confirm it, I already knew it was her.” Luna shook her head, she could feel anger already starting to spread through her. “She can’t keep doing this,” she said, suddenly tired of it all. “She can’t keep ruining people’s lives through this, exposing things that are supposed to stay hidden to the media, or even releasing stories that aren’t real!” Luna dropped the

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Eight - The Event

Two days later. Luna walked into the hall with Justin. Her arm was tucked into the crook of his, eyes turned to look at them as they walked in. Luna knew how they looked, Justin dressed in a smart black suit, looking clean and natural, like he was born in the suit. And she, dressed in a sequin straight midnight dress that hugged her body and went straight down, with a slit starting from her left thigh all the way down to her legs, to fall in a silky pool around her feet. The gown had subtle glitters that only winked when she walked. Diamond jewelries glittered from her ears and around her neck. She knew how they looked, like a power couple that was eating the event up. But she also knew that that was not the reason why people’s heads were even now turning to look at them. No, that was all for a different reason entirely. And that reason was that she was on the arm of her ex-husband, who up until recently- meaning when she moved back into Justin’s house- had been engaged to anoth

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Nine - The Speech

“What is he doing?” Luna whispered-asked Justin. “Can I have everyone’s attention please?” Brian asked into the microphone again. Luna watched as Brian’s gaze went to her sister, she followed his eyes too. Ashley looked shocked. No, shocked was too tame a word, she looked dumbfounded. “Oh my God, she doesn’t know,” Luna deduced as she watched her sister’s face. “She didn’t know that he was going to do this.” “No, she didn’t,” Justin said beside her. Luna turned her head to look at him. “But you do,” she deduced correctly again. Justin looked down at her, his eyes were unreadable, as usual. “I did,” he replied. When he saw the question in her eyes, he placed a hand on her shoulder. “Just listen,” he said. Luna’s eyes narrowed for a bit, but she turned back to look at Brian. So had the rest of the guests too, she noticed. Everybody’s attention was now turned to Brian, even Moira’s. Luna saw her out of the corner of her eyes, she turned to look at her fully. She was sta
