Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-One - The Fam

Luna stood up from her bed, gently and tenderly, she was still sore from the pain. She winced as a small pain pierced through her stomach. “Luna, you shouldn’t be getting up right now,” Justin said. He took a step towards her, he stopped again. “Luna-” he called her name again when Luna didn’t listen to him. “I told you I’m fine, you didn’t believe me,” Luna gritted through her teeth, the pain still sharper than she had thought it would be, “I have to show you,” she gritted again. “Ow,” she yelped as another pain passed through her. At that, Justin leaped forward towards her. He gripped her arms, Luna held on to him too. “You have to sit down,” Justin insisted, “Let me go get Dr. Gina.” His voice wasn’t filled with anger anymore, he was no longer agitated. Luna’s hands tightened on his. “No, I’m fine.” She looked up at him, directly into his eyes. “I’m fine,” she said again, this time more strongly. “I know the scare gave you a, well,” she smiled weakly, “scare, but I prom

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Two - The Leak

After her mother’s visit, Rita came in too. They were both seated on Luna’s bed, Rita had done almost the same thing her mother had done. Fawned and worried over her, she had rushed into the room too and straight towards Luna. She had hugged, asked if she was alright. Her questions had been more probing and specific than Mira’s. and Luna had been proud of her, and moved too, because all her specific questions had surrounded issues pregnant women with weak cervices usually had. Which had told Luna that Rita had been reading up on the subject, because of her. When she was finally convinced that everything was fine, she had then been grateful. And, turned out, Justin had been the one to call her too. Another surprise Luna hadn’t been expecting, and now she didn’t even know what to do with him. Because all his show of sensitivity and care, and his whole attentiveness throughout the entire freaking day, was starting to get to her. It was evoking feelings in her, feelings that she had bur

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Three - The Flight

Luna busted into Ashley’s apartment minutes later. She had used her keys, her eyes searched around the cozy apartment frantically as she looked for her sister. “Ashley? Ash? Ashley?” her voice increased in urgency with each word and still no sign of her sister. Her gaze fell on the packed traveling bag on the floor, and then her eyes darted up to the threshold between the living room and another room, Ashley’s room, at the sound of movement. Ashley stood there, her eyes were red-rimmed, and puffy, obviously from too much crying. Luna stared at her sister, Ashley stared back, and then suddenly tears filled her eyes. “I’m so sorry,” she sobbed. “I am so sorry, I almost killed your baby.” Her voice increased with hysteria as she continued to sob. Luna walked over to her sister, closing the short distance between them, she gathered Ashley into her arms and held on to her fiercely. Ashley cried on Luna’s shoulders, her body racking with her sobs. Luna closed her eyes in relief. “

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Four - The Defense

Luna sat down at the dining table, her laptop was open in front of her. She was on a conference call, the board for the gala were having a meeting. A meeting that was borne from the result of the leaked news about Luna and Justin. Luna watched as the last of the board members trickled in and took her seat. All the other executives were already seated, Luna saw Justin at the head of the conference table, as per usual. The meeting had had to take place immediately, because as soon as the effects of the leaked article- which was more press and attention on Lake Industries, causing irregularities in their stocks and imbalance in their projects- hit the media, the executives and investors of the gala had started to make noises. Justin had been determined to push the meeting further, regardless of their concerns and his duty as the head of the project to address said concerns, all because of her. Luna rested her chin on her hand and watched as Justin’s assistant started the meeting. S

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Five - The Media

Flashback. Luna stood staring at the TV screen as the news anchor read her report from a tablet in front of her. She couldn’t believe what was happening right now. “I can’t believe this is happening right now,” she muttered brokenly, her eyes glued to the screen. She knew she should probably look away, staring at the screen wasn’t helping matters, and it sure wasn’t doing any good to her, but she couldn’t look away. Her father’s legacy was being smeared and dragged throughout the media, and there was nothing she could do about it. He was being called a fraud, a thief, a liar, and other godawful names, thing that he wasn’t and had never been, and she could do nothing about it. They were saying he leaked crucial information to a rival company of Lake Industries for compensation. Her day would never do that, Luna thought to herself with conviction. She didn’t even know exactly what her dad had done for Lake Industries, but yet she knew with absolute certainty that her dad would

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Six - The Business

Present. Luna sat patiently in her chair as the makeup artist applied the finishing touches to her light makeup before they went out on stage. They, she and Justin, were in the backstage of NYN News Studio, they were getting ready to go out to be interviewed. It was two days after the board meeting, when the effects of the leaked article hadn’t subsided as they had hoped and had just continued to steadily increase in its potential to negatively affect the company, and the Gala project by proxy, the investors had all clamored for damage control. They had taken a vote, and majority- with Logan and Jake being part of the minority- had voted that their idea of damage control, being Justin and Luna doing a public interview together to put the whole news to rest, to life. So here they were. Luna glanced at Justin, his studio appointed makeup artist was applying finishing touches to his face too, but unlike her, he didn’t look calm or patient about it. Not that it showed or anything li

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Seven - The Image

“You are not married, is that correct?” the interviewer asked, looking between Luna and Justin. “No, we’re not,” Justin replied evenly. The interviewer nodded, he glanced down at the tablet on his lap. “According to our sources, you live together though. Is that correct?” he asked again. “We do,” Justin replied, as evenly as before. “You’re both having a baby,” this time, the interviewer looked at Luna. A beat, Luna felt Justin’s warm and strong hand holding hers firmly. “Yes, we are,” she replied. “And how do you feel this affects both your image?” the interviewer asked. “We have no feelings towards that,” Justin was the one who replied now. He gave the interviewer a steady look. “It wouldn’t change the way our image is seen.” The interviewer looked at Justin, he smiled a little at him. “I guess it wouldn’t,” he agreed. “But it still bears being careful of the sort of image you put out there. You are both successful business people, you have a major project you

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Eight - The Hold

You never let go of my hand once,” Luna said. She was still looking down at the tablet in her hand, the interview had run its course and she was just staring at a blank screen. She looked up at Justin, he looked back at her. “You never let go of my hand,” she repeated. Somehow that had stuck for her, during the interview, after, on their ride back home that they were still currently on. Justin looked steadily at her. “I will not let go of your hand,” he said. Ever, Luna completed in her head. She could almost hear it anyway. Her heart stuttered in her chest, the steady way Justin was looking at her, his declaration that he would never let go of her hand, and the fact that she knew he meant he would ‘never’ let go of her hand. Like, forever. Was Justin planning on being in her life forever? Could she trust that? Could she risk her heart, her mind, her soul, her body, everything she had worked hard to piece together after he left her shattered and broken six years ago? Could

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Nine - The Similarity

Luna lowered the phone from her ear, she stared at a spot on the floor of the living room. Rita’s words were still repeating in her head, she couldn’t believe what she had just heard. But she could. Oh, she could, Luna thought to herself as a sick feeling spread through her. She couldn’t believe she had been happy just a few minutes ago, Luna pressed a hand to her stomach as the sick feeling coiled through her. She had not just been happy, she had been healed, more healed than she had remembered feeling in a long time. The safety and warmth she had felt from Justin’s hand on hers during the interview, and how strongly and steadily he had defended her and the baby they were making together to the interviewer without any doubt, had given her that healing. It had made her happy, a soft kind of quiet happy, that had spread through the cracks in her heart, and healed it just a little bit. She had been happy, so she had finally felt like she could take a chance. Take a night for herself

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty - The Judgement

Hours later, Luna sat at a secluded table in a bar. The rest of the bar was noisy and lively, the other customers were active and as loud as they cared. Laughter rang out to meet Luna, chatter, conversations, arguments, glasses of beer clinking against each other. Luna let the ambience wash over her as she nursed her glass of water. She hadn’t come into the bar for the drinks, obviously, but loud noisy bar fit her mood perfectly. She couldn’t be in a quiet place right now, she needed to get lost amidst noise. Maybe if they were loud enough, they would drown out her thoughts. Luna went back to her argument with Justin earlier on. She had gotten in his face after calling him a coward, she had demanded to know what he would do when he said she couldn’t call him cowardly and get away with it. And then something had just snapped inside her. Even thinking about it now, Luna still couldn’t figure out what had made her snap like that. But she had just suddenly been furious with him, fur
