Chapter 131: The entire truth

I held Ela close as she slept beside me. I didn't sleep, but it was nice to hold on to her while she did. She snored a little, making my stomach flutter at the sound. This was one of the many things I didn’t think I would get to experience a few days ago. Others included her amazing voice and smile, her laugh, her iconic eye roll, and how her mouth twitched when fascinated. I got the chance to hold her once again, and this was a gift in itself.I leaned in and kissed her shoulder, releasing a contented sigh. She'd never know just how lucky I considered myself to have this privilege. The terrible chapter was now behind us, and together, we would look forward to a better future.“You are not asleep,” Imela grumbled, and her hand rubbed over my bare thigh and then further back to cup my butt.“I know, I don’t feel sleepy,” I replied, and she wiggled around in my arms and turned around so her eyes locked in mine.“You are alright, right?” she asked in concern.A frown hovered over my smil

Chapter 132: Love and manipulation

Imela's POV"I love you; you know that, right?" Oliver asked over the phone."I don't think I will ever forget the way you always remind me," I answered with a small smile.I told Oliver I would have dinner tonight with Marcel and Kimberly, his girlfriend, whom I had yet to meet, meaning he and Ocean would have to have dinner without me. The last time I visited was three weeks ago, a week before my trip to Madrid, and since I got back, I've been too busy with work, only keeping in touch through calls. When Marcel called to invite me to tonight's dinner, I couldn't refuse. I reminded Oliver over the phone that I wouldn't go home from work and instead would go over to Marcel's once I closed from work, and he began acting as though I told him I was going away for good.He had gone back to his clingy ways after I returned from Madrid; he calls at least twice when I'm at work and would always wants us to snuggle when we are at home. He said it was his way of cherishing every moment while k

Chapter 133: Reasons to worry

"What are you doing?" Oliver questioned me as he emerged from the bathroom and found me using my laptop. "A little research," I responded, avoiding eye contact as I anticipated his reaction. He walked towards the bed and sat when he got close, pulling the sheet over his legs. "What happened to your strict no laptop in the bedroom rule?" He was reminding me of the rule that I had proposed two months ago to stop him from bringing work home. That rule was necessary. Knowing Oliver, he'd bring work home every chance he got, and I wanted to stop that for both of us. He ran Plane Enterprise and White Estate and always had an excuse for not finishing his reports in the office. I ran the Garcia group in the state, Stop, and supervised the firm in Madrid. I created an effective timetable that has helped me efficiently manage all of them accurately. If I could do it, he could do it too. I didn't answer and instead kept my eyes fixed on the last paragraph of the article I was reading. "I did

Chapter 134: Friends

I walked up to the attendant, asking him to take me to the reserved part of the lounge; this was where Nina, Hailey, Grace, and I were supposed to meet for a fun date.It was Saturday, and Oliver wanted it to be a lazy day for us. When I told him I had a date, he asked to tag along. I shook my head and told him it was a girls-only date. He didn’t like that very much and asked me what he was to do in my absence. I didn’t expect that question, so I had no answer. He asked when I would return, and I told him I had no clue. I knew he wanted to say a lot, but he kept his mouth shut and instead told me to have fun. I kissed him and told him I would.I met Hailey Cruise through Nina because she was her high school friend turned long-time friend. She was the last and only girl in her family, so she received the princess treatment. She was a writer with a few notable books to her name. While people saw her as a successful author, Hailey said she saw herself as a regular woman with a love for h

Chapter 135: Shared enmity

An alarm went off in my head at the sight as they took their seats not so far from us. The attendant came and took their order, and the man gave his order, and she did the same.Yes, I had reasons to be wary of her. She awakened something in me the last time we met, and my research into her only proved my point even more, but Marcel was happy with her, happier than he had been in a while, which left me torn.I reached out to Marcel, as discussed with Oliver, and I wanted to share what I found out about Kim. He also had news he wanted to share, and it was about his proposal to Kim. He had proposed to her the day after dinner, insisting there was no better time. When he asked what I wanted to say, I couldn't speak, and instead, I congratulated him and ended the call. I didn't think there was anything I would say that would change his mind about Kim; he seemed too far gone.“What about you, Imela? Forbes named you the showstopper of the year with your impressive and roof-shattering recor

Chapter 136: Freedom

Oliver’s POV“You do not have to check up on me every day, Oliver; I am fine.” Vivian groaned as he stepped into his office and saw me seated. After over three months of being absent from his company because of Julie’s death, he returned three weeks ago to carry on where he left off. Though the company kept running while he was away, there were a few lapses that only he could correct. Since his return, he has been fully committed, staying for at least twelve hours every day. I visited every chance I got, and it was my way of reminding him I was here if he needed anything. He had been present during my time with the McCann brothers despite his own troubles, and that was the mark of a true friend. He stood at the door and didn’t step further in. “Are you going to remain at the door?” I asked, frowning. “Also, I don't visit you every day; I do every three days. Besides, I didn’t come to check up on you; I came to see my best friend and catch up.”His eyes narrowed suspiciously at me, but

Chapter 137: Differences

“Are you sure we should be there?” I asked as Ela helped me knot my tie.She glanced up at me with a furrowed gaze. “Is that even a question? Tonight is my father’s sixty-first birthday, and I am his daughter. Would you miss your father’s birthday just because there is bad blood between you and his fiancée?” she demanded.Honestly, I would.Robb and I shared a very close bond, and I couldn’t have wished for a different father, but I would decline an invitation to his birthday if it would help me preserve peace. Ela and I were two people who did things differently. Marcel was not only her father; he was her only parent, and she couldn’t sit it out. Besides that, it would also mean denying Ocean the chance of going and wishing him a happy birthday.I pressed my lips together and said, “I am just being worried.”She told me over two weeks ago that her talk with Marcel didn’t go as planned. He told her he had proposed to Kimberly, and Ela couldn't tell him what she wanted. When Ela raised

Chapter 138: The clash

Imela’s POVA few faces here tonight were familiar, and I tried to get acquainted with them. Marcel and Ocean were gone for longer than I expected, but I figured this was their way of catching up with each other. Soon, Carol led Ocean back to us. I thanked her, and the older woman smiled and took her leave."What do you and Marcel do?”“He showed me the collection of his Legos. He built a city with them. It was big and beautiful.” He replied.“That’s nice to know.”“Can I go with Carol?" They are in the kitchen.I displayed a little reluctance. I wanted him to be close so I could keep an eye on him, but he probably missed Carol and wanted to be around them. The party was kid-friendly, but the boy wanted what he wanted.“Fine, but remember to stay with her until she brings you again.”Ocean beamed back and nodded before leaving with Carol.Oliver saw a senior partner of his from the Plane enterprise and told us to say hello to them, and seeing nothing wrong with the suggestions, I agre

Chapter 139: The horror

Warning!! Graphic chapterOliver POV“What the hell did you just do, Imela?” Marcel's voice demanded after a gasp went through the room.I placed my glass of wine on the counter, where I stood and followed the voice.“She’s been so horrible to me, Marcel; she doesn’t like me. She believes I am out to ruin you and dispose of you. I tried to defend myself, but she struck me in the face.” Kimberly said in a pathetic tone, and I knew who the ‘she’ was: Ela. What did Ela do to her? And most importantly, what did she say to trigger Ela? Marcel may not see it, but his fiancée wasn't as innocent as she appeared.“That is a lie!” Ela's voice came up, but Marcel didn't want to hear it.“Enough!” Marcel cut in anger present in his voice.“Why don’t you tell him what you said about your plans for him?” Ela demanded, ignoring her father's command.“I said that's enough, Imela!” Marcel ordered. His hardened eyes remained on Ela even as he continued to speak. “You have never liked Kim, but I didn’t

Chapter 140: Ocean drowned

I watched Imela pace around in the waiting room while we waited for the doctor to come. We arrived at the hospital three hours ago, and the doctor immediately rushed Ocean into the emergency room. They have been with him ever since. This gave us a little room for hope despite how slim it was. We had to hold on to hope. Imela had yet to say a word since we came into the waiting room. I saw a part of her die at the sight of Ocean’s unconscious body in my arms, and I felt as miserable as one who just lost everything. The party officially ended after Ela’s scream, though, because minutes later, the outside side of the hall was crowded with guests who had come for Marcel’s birthday party. Ela got on her knees beside me, sobbing as I came out of the water. I resumed CPR, and though I was able to get a lot of water from his system, there was a long way to go to save his life. I carried Ocean in my arms and ran through the crowd, gathering around and into the car. Ela and I entered the back
