Chapter 21

STIXSWhy couldn’t I get that meathead out of my mind? For the thousandth time, I rub my wrist, recalling just how his touch made me feel. It was silly, but I couldn’t get the feeling of the sensation that ran through me to go away. The wolf inside me paced, she too was enamored by the Renegade Alpha’s touch. It wasn’t like anything I had ever experienced before. My father was angry at my behavior, and I was still angry with him. Why in the fuck did he think it was a good idea to show weakness and beg like he did.And as for that arrogant meathead, well we didn’t need him anyway. The sad truth was, we did need him and his renegades. The alternative was to be mated with Creepy Crane who wanted to combine our packs.“Hope!” My father’s voice bellows from the bottom of the stairs. Reluctantly I climbed off the bed and slowly walked to the door, peering over the landing I could see my father and his face still held a shit ton of anger. “Get down here!”“Yes, father.” I sigh, rolling my eye

Chapter 22

GABEWe arrived home late at night, pulling up outside the bar. Usually, I would take my gear straight upstairs, but not tonight. Tonight, I made a beeline right for the bar.Music blared from inside and only became louder as I swung the door open. Killian had gone back to his place and was going to meet back up with us later after depositing his bag. The other Zeta’s with us had followed me into the bar once I had stated drinks were on the house for them.I find Jamerson perched at the end of the bar, not in our usual booth, watching my sister as she serves drinks, Nate and another helping her out.Clapping my second on the back harshly, as I don’t miss the way his eyes are trained on my sister, I take a seat beside him. “No problems while I was gone?”Sefy, without missing a beat, slides a drink in front of me, “Welcome home bro.” She smiles sweetly.“Nope.” Jamerson tilts his head, his mouth drawing into a tight line. “All quiet on the home front.” He chirps, gulping his drink. “How

Chapter 23

STIXWhen I wake up in the morning, wiping the sleep from my eyes, my first thought is of the brass button I found last night. Immediately I reach over to the little side table beside my bed and pick it up.Rolling it between my fingers, inspecting it closely. I wonder for the umpteenth time where it had come from and who it belonged to. I only noticed the worn markings on the button in the light of day, which looked to be a branch and scroll. Very curious. I had never seen anything like it.The sun shone through my window, harsh and unforgiving with the promise of yet another hot day.Reluctantly I roll to my side and sit on the edge of my bed. Placing the brass button back where it was. It was my first morning teaching the younger pack members about farming and cultivating produce. After that I was attending training and then my shift at the mill.It was going to be a long torturous day, and I was already dreading it.I stand, stretch, and head for the shower, thinking if I get ready

Chapter 24

GABE As the sun rose and filtered through the dank and dirty windows of my apartment, I lay still, not moving from the couch. The same position I had been in all night. Still staring up at the yellowing ceiling.I hadn’t slept a wink. Thoughts of my past and present plaguing my mind and keeping me in this conscious state.Four things were bothering me and no matter how many times I replayed scenes in my head I just couldn’t pinpoint any of them. One: Where did I know that Beta from? Two: Who told the Crimson Pack about our deal with the Raven Pack?Three: The way the crimson pack treated their membersFour: Could I seriously walk away from this situation knowing what was and is going to befall the Raven Pack? And then there was a fifth. The one I didn’t want to acknowledge or admit to taking up most of my waking hours. Hope Jordan. Why couldn’t I get those big blue eyes and that angry, yet adorabl

Chapter 25

GABEJust as recognition hits me, the office door flies open and Seffy strides in looking puzzled. Her dark hair tussled, her lips pursed, and her forehead creased with concern.“Oh, it’s you.” She flatly states. “I thought the cleaning fairies had come. It was the only reason I could come up with that made sense. That or James had cleaned.”I stare at her blankly, still flabbergasted by my self-discovery. A million and one thoughts flew through my brain as I tried to make sense of it and only came up with ‘the situation just became more complicated’.Without a word I stand, leaning over and planting a kiss on Seffy’s head. “I love you little sis.” I barely whisper, still in my own head, and walk out.Ten minutes later I’m outside Killian's small place, banging on his door, and had already woken Jamerson to get his ass up and over here.A ruffled and naked Killian opens his door, confused as to why I was banging on his door so early in the morning.Pushing past him, I make my way into

Chapter 26

STIX Not long after I had left my father's office, he took off to meet with the council. There was a melancholy feel around the pack, noticeable in every member including the little ones I was currently educating on the importance of crops and how they sustained our pack.It was less than a week until Alpha Crane's deadline. Despite my name, I felt like there was no hope for me or our pack.“How can vehicles run off oranges and corn?” A little boy asked in a cocky manner, even though I had just finished explaining how it works and the modifications we had made to the tank and engine of our transportation.I give him a grim smile not holding back the exasperated sigh I let out. “You weren’t paying attention, were you?” I say a little condescending. In truth, my thoughts were elsewhere. Not on educating the young pups, especially as we might not have a pack to educate in the near future.

Chapter 27

GABEMy first reaction was to ride to Ravens knights pack, to put that little female alpha’s mind at rest. Or maybe because I thought I needed to get her out of my system. I don’t know.Either way, Jamerson had convinced me to slow my roll.We took the rest of the day to hatch a plan and bring some of the zetas in our idea. We were going to need all the manpower we could gather, and we wanted their support and input.Nate pursed his lips, leaning back against the old leather of our usual booth in the bar, after Killian and Jamerson had gone over our plan. We were going to send a team to the Crimson Pack and a team to the Ravens Pack.We would falsely claim we were at the Crimson pack to back them up and pick up the rest of what they owed us for not interfering. While the team at the Raven Knights would sit in wait posing as pack members if and when Alpha Crane made his move to attack them.As for Hope Jordan, I couldn’t figure her into the plan. If the Raven Knights won the pack war, s

Chapter 28

GABEThe open road gave me a sense of calmness. My inner wolf was quelled whenever I felt the humid air cooling on my face as we sped along the broken and cracked roads.I had always felt at peace on my bike. The usual thoughts that plagued my mind would take a backseat. Clarity would form as I enjoyed the ride. Like now, the tension slipped from my muscles as I relaxed and formed my body into the bike and listened to the rumbling hum of the engine that vibrated between my legs.Jamerson and I had decided not to stop overnight like I did last time, even if the Crimson pack was a little further. The afternoon blare of heat began to give way somewhat as the blazing sun started to retreat. Dusk fell quickly yet still we rode.As the last of the sun dipped behind the horizon the moon rose casting its yellow glow onto the empty road and over the open terrain. The stars twinkled above -- our map of the land -- though I knew where we were going. It was late when we reached the border of the C

Chapter 29

STIX“What do you mean he has been arrested? On what grounds?” Beta Branston bellows at the two council guards, his face becoming a bright red with anger and frustration.Ruby’s hand grabs my arm, her grip almost painful. But I couldn’t think of that at this moment. I was sure my ears had deceived me. “Arrested?” I question loudly, my voice shaking in anticipation of the confirmation from the two men. “Why?”“Your Alpha has gone against the council and pack laws. He has been arrested and placed in a holding cell awaiting trial.” The shorter guard provides in a monotone voice and expressionless face.Beta Branston waives the paper that is securely gripped in his fist, again. “This is absurd!” He growls “He came to the council for help, and you arrest him. On what grounds? And don’t give me your bullshit answer! I want facts!”The two men offer no more insight as to what happened before they stepped back into their fancy car and drove back down our winding road, disappearing in the nigh

Chapter 30

GABESleep evaded me. Though the luxurious bed was comfortable, I wasn’t used to such nice things. The pristine white sheets and the soft grey walls were too clean. I felt out of place lying in the bed, looking at the glass vase with silk flowers, the sheer drapes, and the marbled bathroom attached to my room. The only thing I had gathered was, this pack had serious money. I could only wonder where they got their funds from. What did the crimson pack produce to keep the main house in such pristine condition?Jamerson must have felt the same, because no sooner had I washed up and put on a clean shirt than he came knocking at my door like last night. His eyes rimmed with dark circles from lack of sleep.“Do you think anyone will come to escort us downstairs? Or are we meant to make our own way down?” I shrug at Jamerson’s question. We could clearly hear people up and about downstairs, plus there were numerous footsteps outside my door earlier once the sun had risen.“I guess we go down,”
