11. Not a Stranger

MARCELLO The couch was really uncomfortable. I had been tossing and turning all night, struggling to find a position that I was comfortable in. But, at some point, I just gave up and decided to sit instead. My purpose of staying back at the cabin was to watch over Valeria and Veronica after all, totally not because I wanted an excuse to be near Valeria. All of a sudden, I heard movement behind me and I immediately whipped my head around to see who it was. I released a breath of relief when I saw that it was just Valeria scowling at me as usual. She scoffed and walked around the couch to seat on the one seater opposite me. "All it takes to scare you is to just... exist?" "You snuck up on me." I pursed my lips. "I did not know that you were there, anyone would freak out a little bit." "Yeah, whatever floats your boat." She leaned into the chair and crossed her legs. "Why are you here though?" Her tone was sharp, and I could tell that it was from a place of suspicion. She

12. Mate? No Way...

VALERIA Marcello had left as the sun rose, and it was not long before my eyelids started to feel heavy. In the bedroom, Veronica was still sound asleep so I tried as much as possible to climb in bed quietly. I may have slept for over six hours because the sun was setting when I woke up. And I finally understood how Marcello felt earlier when I turned to my right to find Veronica looking at me with the widest grin on her face. I exhaled and glared at her. "Why are you looking at me like that?" "I had a dream about you— actually, it was a vision." She giggled. "And guess what?" "What?" My tone was bland. I could even be bothered to pretend that I was interested even if I wanted to. "Marcello was in it!" "Um... hurray?" I was confused, was I supposed to be excited about that? "Do you want the full details or the summary?" She asked excitedly, wiggling her eyebrows at me. "Summary, please." "Hmph!" She rolled her eyes dramatically. "You're boring!" "I don't c—" "

13. Truth?

MARCELLO Alan grabbed my hand and pulled me to a distance away from the house that was out of earshot. "I cannot risk anyone listening in on what I am about to tell you." "Well, start talking then." I was beginning to grow impatient. "Alright." He gulped. "My mother told me a lot of things this last time I paid her a visit." He sat on the carpet grass beneath us and pulled me to join him on the ground. "Firstly, my father did not just die in his sleep. He was killed when he found out things that he was not supposed to know." I sucked in a sharp breath at that. How was he so contained knowing that kind of thing? "Did she tell you who killed him?" "Yes." He sounded wry. "Who?" "Your father." "What!?" I backed up, my eyes reducing to slits. "What are you saying?" I knew that my father was a very hard man, strict with most things, but accusing him of killing his own younger brother was a reach, a massive one. My father was not capable of that. "Listen to me, Mar—" "No!" I got

14. Secret Lair

VALERIA Veronica must have gotten a random burst of energy. Because, instead of going to bed, she decided that she would rather spend her time deep cleaning the kitchenette. Meanwhile, I was in the backyard, trying to get my thoughts together. It had been two days since Veronica had that dream, and even though I did not believe in the concept of being fated to a mate, I could not help but think of it. There was a part of my mind that kept asking, 'what if it's possible?' But it went against everything that I have believed all my life. Not like I believed in anything anyway. I was more inclined to go with logic than any of that spiritual nonsense that these werewolves believed in. But my mind traveled back to when I had encountered Selene, the one that introduced herself as the moon goddess. That experience felt all too real for me to just ignore; even as I thought of her, I could still feel the aura she came with that day. I sighed and brushed the thought off my mind. What Ve

15. Chaos

MARCELLO It was the night of Bran's coronation and our plan to sabotage it was very simple. We just had to wait for the perfect time to execute it. Bran was taking his sweet time getting ready. He did not show it but he was really excited that he was finally going to be Alpha now that Father had put things in place to guarantee that the process was actually going to go through by any means. This was something he had been preparing for since he was a little boy, he had spent most of his life anticipating this day, with alpha training, learning from our military, and even sacrificing his teenage years to, one day, take over this responsibility. Now, the day had finally come... and I was going to ruin it for him... The thought of that ignited guilt in me. What if I was misunderstanding some things? What if Alan was the one manipulating me into doing what he wanted? Did I really want to betray my family like this? I shook my head, recalling the sight of blood that I had seen at t

16. The Reveal

MARCELLO I was running like a mad man. Even Alan was struggling to keep up with me. The thought of never seeing Valeria again was enough to fuel me with adrenaline to keep me going. Still, I tried to run even faster, if that was possible. I could not think of what I would possibly do with myself if Valeria was gone when I got to that Cabin. Finally, my legs slowed down once I got to the cabin, but my heart was still beating erratically. Behind me, Alan was bent over, trying to catch his breath. "When the fuck did you learn how to run that fast?" I ignored him and knocked on the door, resisting the urge to push it down. "Valeria? Veronica?" Nobody responded so I knocked again. And there was still no response. Did she leave already? Or was I just being impatient? I began to knock even harder, my voice getting louder. "Valeria! Are you in there?!" There was still no response. That's was it. I braced myself and bumped the door with my shoulder. The hinges rattled a little

17. On Probation

MARCELLO "Come again?" I looked around. I seemed to be the only one surprised in there. Alan looked like it was something that he already knew; meanwhile, Valeria looked like she could not care less about anything she had just heard. "The Seat of Alpha is yours." Veronica repeated. "And there will be absolute chaos throughout the kingdom if anyone else should be crowned." "I still do not understand." Now, I was confused too. "I mean, why?" "You see, the things your father and grandfather have done has ignited the wrath of the goddess. And, for some reason, she sees you as a perfect fit for the position of Alpha." Valeria explained. "So that little earthquake during Bran's first coronation was just the tip of the iceberg." Alan added. "There will be worse to come if Bran somehow gets crowned as Alpha." "One more thing about the prophecy..." Valeria stepped forward. "It says that your help will come from the land of Cyacruse." "That's the land of vampires." Alan said. And

18. Solis Amulet

VALERIA Old wounds were opened yesterday by Marcello's cousin, that boy. He said things that made me relive moments that I just wanted to forget so badly. Not only that, he offered me a chance for vengeance, I was scared but I took it. Those people that took my parents from me, I had a chance to get back at them, to make them feel what my eleven year old self felt. The despair, sadness, and anger, I was going to inflict it on them in double fold. "I advise not to take inspiration from the thirst for vengeance." A voice, low and calming, spoke from behind me. I recognized it from that vision I had in the woods, it belonged to Selene. I looked back and she still looked just as beautiful as the last time I saw her. Her soft smile was inviting, but there was still a part of me that believed that she was still just a figment of my imagination. "What are you talking about?" I asked despite my doubts. "T

19. Cracked and Activated

MARCELLO "Are you really sure that my father has that amulet?" I asked as I watched Alan pace to and fro in his room. "Yes, Marcello, stop asking me that." He looked at me briefly. "Your parents were arguing about it yesterday in their room and, as usual, they were really loud while at it." He chuckled and stopped moving to look at me. "Your mother thinks it should just be destroyed, alongside anything related to vampires and the prophecy. But your father thinks that they could still find a way to activate the Solis amulet." I sighed and pinched my nose, they really did have loud arguments these days, since the night that my father gave us the news of Bran's probation. But that was not the crux of the matter at the moment. "Well now, you want us to steal it. So what's your plan?" "By twelve midnight, they'll both the honouring the invite to the first shifting of the Beta's daughter and they'll be out a few hours."

20. Resurfacing

VALERIA The presence of the amulet did not let me rest. My fingers ached to activate it, and it was only a matter of a few minutes before I succumbed to its pull. Veronica was sound asleep when I checked on her, so I took the amulet, sneaked out of the bedroom, and went out the back door into the backyard. It was only a few minutes to sunrise and, if I successfully activated the amulet, I would not have to run away from it again. Instead, I would get to feel it for the first time. I looked at it in my palm, the words for the activation spell ringing in my head. Then I inhaled deeply and held the amulet to my chest as I said the words out loud: "Like the force of a flood, wield your power through my blood." And just like that, what felt like electricity coursed throughout my veins, making my eyes roll to the back of my head as my body vibrated uncontrollably. I could not see anything except a bright, red light in my vision, and my grip on the amulet went tighter, causing m
