11: HAVE WE MET?

XAVIERAI missed a shift tonight with the intention of staying in, but somehow Anna and I were heading towards Marilyn Hunt's house. The Hunts lived in one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in Crescent hills, uptown of the Pack's extremely vast territory. I had been part of this pack for over five years, and not once have I been to this side of town. The houses all looked the same, safe for different ornamental plants that graced their front yards. The neighbourhood was calm, serene, and very enticing. Anna chuckled, as I gawked at the beautiful buildings and carefully trimmed flowers. The driver might have noticed my awe, cause he slowed down his car, allowing me to take in the beauty of the place. “This City keeps getting delightful” I said to her. “Yes.” Anna agreed. “There's more to see than well structured buildings and estates. Have Leesa and Adeline take you out more often, and you'd come to love our pack more” she added. I gave her a small smile. I might be quite far from

12: MEETING THE FIRST LAVENDER

XAVIERAHave we met?NO! I turned away from his gaze, focusing on what was on my plate, unable to remember what it was I was actually eating. I twirled my fork in my plate, picking at the veggies in them. “Please, join us” His mother beckoned, her face beaming with affection. “Oh, sorry to interrupt. I didn't know it was a women's meeting” He declined subtly. “Nonsense!” Marilyn waved the air, “Come sit with us, we are glad to have you here.” She said. From my slightly lowered gaze, I watched him going over to the seat that was set for him, directly opposite mine, and in-between his mother, and Marilyn who was beaming as though she'd finally seen Santa Claus. Majority of younger eyes were curiously trained on his physique in unabashed appraisal. I swear I heard several wishful sighs, and caught several dreamy looks, especially from the woman who sat beside me. “He's so hot. Isn't he?” Leesa whispered into my ears. I turned to her. “Snap out of it!” She looked away, to him and th

13: THE MATTER OF WHEN

ALPHA RYKER The woman beneath me shot her hips up once more, vibrating spasmodically. She moaned out, grabbing onto my shoulders, her nails dug into my skin. She rubbed her body against mine as I stroked her slowly. When she was calm again, I pulled out of her body, collapsing on the other side of the bed. She rolled to her side, cuddling up against my body. “You keep outdoing yourself, Ryker” she whispered against me, her voice sultrily breathless. “You keep track?” I smirked, kissing her hair. She smelled of Jasmine, and I liked the smell of it.“I can't even” she chuckled, pushing herself up so she stared at my face. “You're the best I've ever had, no caps” “And I intend to keep it that way” I kissed her lips, then detangled our bodies. “How do you intend to do that?” She asked me rolling on her stomach. My eyes narrowed at her question, she gave me an intense look. “What do you mean?” “You know what I mean, Ryker.”“Prior to what you think, I wasn't blessed with the gift of

14: TWO CHOICES TO PICK FROM

XAVIERA I found myself in the forest. Tall trees with dark green leaves, rich leaves, swaying under the merciless assault of the cold wind. I strolled through the intimidating bodies of wood, leaves and hooting owls, unsure of what I was searching for, or where I was going. Far ahead, there was a river, and even from this distance, I could tell it was still, and glistening. I headed towards the river, through the troubled forest. Aside from the waving leaves, tall trees, hooting owls and the occasional flapping of bird wings, I seemed to be alone. Or I thought I was. Sounds of howls tore through the air, and in a flash of light, two huge wolves ran past me, one on my left, and another on my right gunning for the river. I stood still, shocked at how they'd sped past, contemplating my next action. I went after them, as fast as my feet could take me. From the small distance between us, I saw them split, one took to the right, and the other to the left side of the river. By

15: IT TAKES TWO...

ALPHA RYKERMy heart pounded in their cages, expanding and contracting rapidly as my feet hit the ground, one after the other in a swift interchange my mind could barely keep up. They seemed to be on their own volition this morning, and somehow I embraced the idea. “Thirty seconds” Caden's voice slid through the earpods in my ear. I raced faster, blood pumping. I leapt over a log, then another and another, and five more. I hit the earth, perspiration dripping from every pore.“Twenty seconds” I caught sight of the Manor, I raced to it, my eyes fixated on the gates. It was still locked from what I could tell, and I had less than fifteen seconds to reach the entrance of the manor. “Fifteen seconds. The gates will be…”I leapt, pushing myself up and for a few seconds defied gravity on my own, over the spiky points of the gates and then I dropped down, over the gate, landing on the gravelled floor, hands to the ground. I picked up the race immediately. I took the steps two at a time u

16: THE UNEXPECTED CHOICE

XAVIERAI had that dream again. I was in a dense forest, two wolves ran past me, each on my side, heading to the glistening river that was before me. I ran after them until I reached what appeared to be the river bank. Lightning struck one of the trees behind me, and the forest was enveloped in flames. The still water before me erupted into troubled waves, powerful currents clashed against each other, threatening to swallow me up, pushing me back to the fire that waited to consume me. By my left, one wolf stood and by my right, another, each headed for two different paths. Then one of the wolves turned, its eyes icy, and crystal, magnificent and magnetic. It turned away from me, running further into the path it stood. The other wolf was equally far gone. The fire and the waves roared concurrently, forcing me to make a quick decision. I followed the crystal eyed wolf, and the moment I took that path, I was transported into the past. Fire roared through the night's sky, warming the co

17: THE BETA AND THE UNKNOWN SACRIFICE.

BETA CADENBeing Beta meant I ruled next to Ryker. I served him as my Alpha, honoured him as my defender, defended him like a guardian and loved him as a brother. For me, Ryker was a priority. His safety was my concern. My mother had brought a blue-green eyed boy with the most defiant look I'd even seen one fateful Sunday afternoon. One look at him, and I'd decided this was a forever ship. Our bond had grown over the years, and when he became Alpha, becoming his beta was automatic. Ryker would say he trusted no one more, and I never gave him a reason not to. Our bond transcended duty, and being by his side became a reflex. The happenings of the past two weeks had reshaped and altered a lot of plans, setting us on a different course. Last month, we were all thinking of how magical the Crescent ball for this year would look like. No one in Crescent joked with the Crescent ball, not even Ryker with all his skepticism. The Crescent ball drew a lot of attention, and was always honoured b

18: THE DEVIL IS AN ELDER.

ALPHA RYKERAs my convoy drove through the gates of the Dupont mansion, I tried to maintain a cool facade. Aaron Dupont had been pestering me for a meeting, and every time I cancelled, he played strings like a cat with its mouse. I hated how trapped I felt, and to think it wasn't even my choice, yet here I was. I hated his games, but this is what you get for becoming a collateral for the devil's bidding, and fucking his granddaughter nonetheless. Lauren wasn't home, and the shift festival was in three hours. I decided it was best to finish this dirty business in her absence and today. I wanted to just move on from this sordid deal once and for all. A rotund bald man with rosy cheeks, dressed in an impeccable white dresshirt and black pants waited at the entrance of the house. I recognised him immediately. He was Aaron's longest serving staff, and as I've deduced, confidente. “Alpha!” he greeted rather brightly, curtsying the moment I stepped out of my car. “Varys” I responded as I

CHAPTER NINETEEN

RykerI stood before the large mirror in my spacious closet, going over my look for the last time. My team had done a nice job ensembling and styling my look for tonight. Although Aria had suggested I dressed in blue tux, I loved how good I looked in back, and I could never pass on black when it was an option. Aria had released an update to the press, describing in detail my ensemble for tonight. She had insisted it was important to state how I addressed. My appearance was as important as my leadership skills. I didn't argue with that. I loved to dress, and Aria and her team indulged me.I dressed in a black peak lapel cashmere tuxedo and pants, perfectly tailored it accentuated my physique; a crispy white dress shirt with a wing collar and french cuffs. I pinned the cuffs with diamond cufflinks from my father's collections. I had declined knotting a tie, and had undid the first two buttons aiming for a hint of casuality.I fixed a tiny diamond on my right earlobe after an afterthough

20: AQUAMARINE

XAVIERAI stood in the large park with over thirty wolves. Leesa and Adeline stood on both sides of me, waiting for the moon to emerge. Rewind to how I got here, ready to shift with the others. I had successfully walked out that door, and returned home, then I couldn't go through the door, because I couldn't phase through walls—or doors, and I had left my keys inside, and Anna had gone to the clinic. After contemplating going to the hospital, or simply assisting Moondrops at the park for over five minutes, I had gone with the latter. However, on getting to the park, I figured Moondrops was already overstaffed. So, I let Adeline win. Again. She had quickly pulled me in, a little too glad that I had changed my mind, then proceeded to outline the stops they intended to take. She however emphasised on being close and not missing each other. “Remember, you have stick with the subpack” she had reiterated severally. Leesa had taken the invincible baton, explaining the formation which soun
