Chapter Seventy-One: Emily's POV

The moment I heard Daniel's voice, a feeling of relief washed over me. I hoped that he had a plan to get us out of this nightmare. I looked at him, my eyes brimming with tears of gratitude. "Daniel," I whispered, my voice shaking with emotion. He took small steps towards us, his eyes locked on Reynolds. "Put down the gun, Reynolds," he ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument. “You can't kill her, you shouldn't.” Reynolds let out a cold laugh, his eyes filled with sadistic pleasure. "Oh, Daniel," he sneered, "you should be on your knees, begging me for mercy, not giving me orders.” To my surprise, Daniel responded with a laughter of his own that made me wonder why he was laughing. "You are doomed," he said confidently. Reynolds' face grew dark. "It is you who is doomed," he said harshly as he stretched out his arm to point to the henchmen surrounding us. "Look around you. There is no one to help you, even if you wanted to fight against me. Your brother is lying unconscious!"

Chapter Seventy-Two: Emily's POV

As the men closed in on us, Emma and I stood still, our gaze locked on them. My mind raced with questions as I wondered if these were more of Reynolds' henchmen, here to finish the job. Then, one of the men stepped forward, and I flinched. He was an elderly man, his face marked with a quiet authority that demanded respect. His eyes scanned the scene before him, taking in Daniel's lifeless body in my arms, my kids standing behind me, Dylan's unconscious body on the ground, and Emma. "Who… who are you?" I managed to ask. The man looked at me with a steady gaze. "My name is Ezekiel," he introduced himself calmly. "A member of the werewolf council.” My eyes widened, and a gasp escaped my lips. "The werewolf council?" I repeated, wanting to be sure I heard him right. Ezekiel nodded, his expression serious. "We received word of the situation and rushed here as soon as we could." He paused as took in Daniel's motionless body again. "It seems we arrived quite late." I clutched Daniel t

Chapter Seventy-Three: Emily's POV

My hands shook as I held onto the railing of his bed. “Tell me, Dylan! What do you mean he's not waking up? Is he dead? Did something happen?” My voice grew more panicked. Dylan tried to sit up, but he winced in pain and laid back down. "Calm down, Emily. Please," he said gently. Calm down? I couldn't calm down. My thoughts were a jumbled mess and my heart was racing with fear. "Is… is he… is he dead?" I stuttered. “Daniel has fallen into a coma,” he blurted out. I let out a shaky breath, relieved that at least Daniel wasn't dead, but fear still gripped me. I began pacing the small room, my thoughts all over the place. "What did the doctor say? Will he be alright soon? When will he regain consciousness?" I asked. At that moment, my mind was racing with worst-case scenarios. Dylan reached out and took my hands, his eyes meeting mine. "The doctor says the drug in the bullet is really strong, but it just needs time to pass through his system. He'll pull through, Emily, he just needs

Chapter Seventy-Four: Emily's POV

After putting the kids to bed, I made my way back downstairs, my steps heavy with the weight of everything that had happened that day. I was truly exhausted. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I saw Emma standing in the hallway, her gaze filled with worry. "Emily," she said gently, "come here, you need to eat something." I opened my mouth to refuse, but the look in her eyes told me it was a losing battle. "I'm really not hungry, Emma," I sighed. She stepped closer and placed a reassuring hand on my arm. "You need to keep your strength up, for yourself and for Daniel and Dylan." I knew she was right, so with a reluctant nod, I allowed her to lead me to the dining room where a plate of steaming food was waiting for me. The delicious aroma filled the room and immediately made me hungry. "Thank you," I whispered as I sank into the chair and picked up my fork. As I began to eat, Emma settled into the seat across from me, her eyes searching my face. "How are they doing?" I pau

Chapter Seventy-Five: Dylan's POV

Emily and I stood in silence when I suddenly heard a sound of someone clearing their throat behind us. We turned to see Ezekiel standing behind us, a questioning look on his face. "Dylan," he greeted me, his gaze briefly flickering to Emily. "Emily, it's good to see you both." I offered him a nod, my hand unconsciously reaching out to give Emily's a gentle squeeze. "Ezekiel," I replied in a calm voice. "Is there a problem?" Ezekiel's brow furrowed as he turned his attention back to me. "Actually, I've been looking for you. It's about Reynolds." I felt Emily's grip tighten on my hand, and I could see the panic creeping into her eyes. "Reynolds? What happened to him? Has he escaped?" she asked, her voice laced with fear. Ezekiel quickly shook his head. "No, no, it's nothing like that," he reassured her. "I just wanted to let you both know that a date has been set for his trial." I let out a breath I didn't realize I had been holding. "When is it?" I asked, curious. "Tomorrow after

Chapter Seventy-Six: Emily's POV

"Dylan! Dylan, wake up!" I shouted, my heart racing as I glanced at the clock on the nightstand. It was almost noon, and it suddenly dawned on me that today was the day of Reynolds' trial. Dylan jolted awake, his hands gripping my shoulders. "What's wrong? Are you hurt?" he asked, worry evident in his voice. "The trial!" I exclaimed, already scrambling out of the bed. "It's today, Dylan. We are going to be late!" He blinked, looking confused. "The trial? What trial?" "Wah dah! Reynolds' trial," I clarified, the urgency in my voice obvious. "It's almost noon, and we need to get there." His eyes widened as the realization dawned on him. "Shit," he muttered as he jumped out of the bed and hurried towards the bathroom. I stood in the center of the room for a moment, mind racing as I tried to gather my thoughts. The kids were in the care of the nanny, and Emma had mentioned something about going to see Daniel. Calming my nerves, I made my way downstairs and quickly approached the ma

Chapter Seventy-Seven: Emily's POV

As soon as the trial ended, Dylan and I rushed to find Ezekiel. I needed to speak with Reynolds, and Ezekiel was the only one who could make it happen. I couldn't wait because I was already going crazy with questions. "Ezekiel, please." My voice trembled with desperation when we finally found him. "I have to talk to Reynolds. I need answers." Ezekiel looked at us skeptically, clearly hesitant about granting our request. "Emily, I get where you are coming from, but you have to understand that the council has its rules," he explained. "Reynolds is a dangerous man, and I don't want to risk your safety." I felt my frustration growing, my fingers curling into tight fists at my sides. "Come on Ezekiel," I begged, a sad look on my face. "This is about my parents. He killed them, Ezekiel. I need to know why. I need to know the truth.” After a moment of hesitation, Ezekiel let out a heavy sigh. "Alright, fine. I'll set it up," he agreed, his shoulders slumping in resignation. "But you'll ha

Chapter Seventy-Eight: Dylan's POV

As I sat in the car with Emily, watching the way her body trembled as she cried, I felt a deep pain in my chest. The revelations we heard today had been so devastating, tearing open old wounds and exposing cruel truths that had been hidden for so long. "Should we go home?" I asked gently as my hand reached out to give hers a reassuring squeeze. Her eyes, still red from crying, met mine, and I could see the inner conflict she was experiencing. "I..." she began, her voice barely audible. "I think I would like to go see Daniel." I couldn't help but frown. "Are you sure?" I asked, worried. "You look really pale right now. Maybe we should go home and rest first. We could go to see him in the evening or even tomorrow." But she shook her head. "No, Dylan," she insisted. "I need to see him. It's my fault he's in the hospital battling for his life.” I wanted to protest, to tell her that none of this was her fault, that she was carrying more than enough on her shoulders already. But I knew

Chapter Seventy-Nine: Emily's POV

I remained in Dylan's comforting embrace, trying to calm down, but I struggled to stay calm. It was as if I was being tortured. We stayed in that position in silence, not saying a word to each other. Just as I was starting to relax, Dylan's phone suddenly beeped, pulling us both from the moment. He let go of me gently, murmuring an apology as he took out his phone from his pocket to check the notification. I turned my gaze back to Daniel, and sighed. As Dylan stood next to me, I glanced up at him, my brows furrowed with curiosity. "Is everything okay?" I asked, my voice was low and hoarse. Dylan hesitated, his eyes slightly unfocused, as if he was lost in thought. "Ah, yes, yes," he replied, his tone unconvincing. "Everything is fine.” I studied him for a moment, unconvinced by his response. There was something in the way he carried himself, a hidden tension in his posture, that betrayed his words. "What is it, Dylan?" I pressed. He paused, his gaze meeting mine, and for a moment,

Chapter Eighty: Emily's POV

After Dr. Simmons left the room, I turned my attention back to Daniel and gently took his hand in mine, my fingers trembling slightly as I spoke. "Daniel," I whispered. "Please, you have to wake up. I really need you to wake up." I held his hand tightly, silently begging him to respond, to give me any sign that he could at least hear me. But he remained still. "I'll be good to you, I promise," I continued, the words pouring out in a desperate rush. "I'll forget everything, all the hurt you've caused me. Just please, please wake up." My heart was pounding in my chest, a wild, chaotic beat that almost drowned out my own thoughts. Why did he do it? Why did he take the bullet for me? The questions swirled in my mind, demanding answers I wasn't sure I was ready to face. "Daniel," I called out softly, my fingers tightening around his. "Why did you do it? Why did you save me? You should have just…” I paused and as I looked at him, I felt a flutter in the pit of my stomach, a familiar se
