Chapter 51

Brielle“Will you please explain everything that has been going on to me?“ His voice broke the quiet, calm but direct. For a brief minute, I froze, holding onto the coffee pot. I had no desire to repeat this. Not after last night. Taking a deep breath, I turned around and forced a half hearted smile. “It’s nothing, Zadyre. Really.”His eyebrows furrowed, obviously not buying it. "Brelle, you've been tense since yesterday night. Something’s bothering you. Talk to me.”I wiped a palm across my forehead and groaned. I lied, saying "It's just stress," even if some of it was accurate. I was still troubled by the dream, but I wasn't comfortable talking about it. “I’ve been thinking about… Sebastian.” I swallowed hard, trying to focus on something tangible, something less horrifying than the nightmare. “What he might be planning. You are aware of his tendencies- constantly cunning and one step ahead. I get a persistent feeling that something big is coming.”Zadyre’s expression softened slig

Chapter 52

BrielleThe morning after that strange dream, everything felt… different.Since Zadyre had woken up early and I was the only one in the room, I went to the mirror and stood in front of it, staring at my reflection. It was subtle at first, but I couldn't get rid of the nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right. My hair looked fuller and longer than it had been yesterday. The dark strands shimmered and it looked almost unnatural, it was thicker and silkier. I ran my fingers through it and the silkiness sent a strange shiver down my spine. But that was not the only thing. I felt different- I felt stronger. My muscles seemed more defined and my body was humming with energy- with an intensity I was not at all used to. I forced my hands in front of me, watching my muscles shift. The difference was evident enough for me to wonder what was going on, even though it wasn't sudden or big.My heart was hammering hard against my chest, and I could feel my nervousness rising with every pass

Chapter 53

Zadyre I stared down at Brielle in my arms, her face tear streaked and fragile, her body curled into me like she was trying to make herself smaller, as if she could hide from whatever was happening inside of her. She was asleep now, breathing soft and even. I had carried her to bed after reassuring her that she was not a monster why everything would be fine. I let out a sigh as I ran my hand through her hair, hoping it would soothe her and keep the nightmares away. The weight of her words hung in the air- it was suffocating. The way she had said it with guilt and tears over a little accident ripped me apart inside. Brielle wasn’t a monster. She was strong, loving, fierce and a fighter. But something was happening to her, something she could not even explain and it was scaring the hell out of me. I watched her sleep, my mind racing with questions and fears. She was losing control and I wondered why. I could feel it too, it was unsettling and it felt like there was more to thi

Chapter 54

Brielle
My body shook as I clung to Zadyre, pressing my face against his chest.

I didn’t know how long as I was there in his arms for until I fell asleep and started dreaming again.

The dreams began as they always did. I was standing in the woods, the trees towering above me, their branches swaying the the direction of the breeze. The ground under me was cold and damp. And then, there it was- soft at first, like a faint whisper calling on to me.

“Come, come, come…”

My body responded without my permission and my legsstarted moving, taking me deeper into the woods. Everything was blurry around me, the shadows of the trees were stretching out to me like as if they knew me, like as if they had been waiting just for me. And then I felt a small warm presence beside me.

I looked down and I saw it was Micha.

He was standing beside me, his hand in mine and his sleepy eyes blinking up at me. His dace was calm and simple like he was having a beautiful dream. But something was wro

Chapter 55

Brielle The wood stretched out endlessly around us as we made our way into it. Each tree was hovering above silently and it looked like that were watching my every move. My legs walked silently against the damp earth and my heart was racing with a mixture of fear and desperation. Zadyre, Damon and Amelia were behind me and we were all on the lookout for Micah. After we had searched the house thoroughly and hadn’t found him, the woods was the next best place to look. The kids were still asleep and this was the best time to look for him. I was feeling anxious and with every step I took and every rustle of the leaves, I was getting more worried. Where are you, Micah? The question echoed in my head, over and over and over again, pushing me forward and giving me the energy I needed even though my legs were aching and needed to rest. We had been searching for hours now and the deeper we went into the woods, the more I felt an invisible pull- urging me to go further. I knew the

Chapter 56

Brielle“Don’t worry baby, I’m here now. How you got here doesn’t matter,” I said to him trying to calm him down and he nodded. I dusted Micah off and sat him down gently against the tree as I went to talk to my supposed aunt. “What do you want from me?” I asked her. A smoke spread across her lips slowly but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. “It’s not what I want from you, my dear niece. It’s what I want for you,” she replied. I narrowed my eyes, my stomach twisting in knots. “I don’t even know who you are. You say you’re my aunt, but I don’t remember ever hearing anything about you. Why should I trust anything you say?” I shot at her. Her expression softened but it felt fake. It felt like she was just putting on a mask so I would trust her. “You were never told about me because your father wanted to hid the truth from you. He wanted to protect you, prevent you from finding out who you truly are and stay you are capable of,” she replied. What? My father didn’t even like me so wha

Chapter 57

BrielleAs I led Micah through the woods and back to the house with his little hand tightly wrapped around mine, I couldn’t shake the unsettling way I was feeling after I had talked to the strange woman who apparently was my aunt. Her words still echoed in my mind. You can’t run away from who you are, Brielle. The powers would come for you whether you like it or not.I looked down at Micah, he was looking more exhausted and sleepy as we got closer to the house. He didn’t remember anything- not one thing about how he had gotten into the woods and I was sure he didn’t even pay attention to words that strange woman was saying. Her words hit me hard- it felt like I have been living a lie and my true powers were hidden from me because of my father. When we got to the house, I opened the door quietly and led Micah in, not wanting to wake his siblings. I took him to their room and helped him get into his bed as I kissed him softly on the forehead as he immediately fell asleep. As I stood the

Chapter 58

BrielleThe forest was more quiet than usual as I made my way to where I and my aunt, Selene always met. The woods were peaceful like it always was whenever I was around her, her presence was just calming.Everything around me seemed to fade into the background, like this part of the world was just ours. My aunt had a way of making the chaos in my mind go still, offering answers when I felt overwhelmed by the changes happening inside me.Beside Selene, was a young adult who my aunt introduced as my cousin and her name was Evanna, she stood with a grace that almost mirrored her mother’s. She was tall, with dark hair like mine, though hers was tied back in a sleek braid. She was about my age, maybe a little younger, and had already embraced the power in her blood long before I even knew of it according to what my aunt had said. There was something fierce about her, a quiet confidence I both admired and envied.I stood at the clearing where my cousin and aunt stood. Selene was wearing a

Chapter 59

Brielle Tonight was the night. The night I was finally going to unlock the powers that had been inside me- waiting for me to discover them. Selene had prepared me for this- trained me and pushed me to unlock my potentials. She had said I was destined for greatness and that I would be the one rise and protect the people I loved. I finally got to where we always met- where the ceremony was going to take place. My breath caught in my throat as I saw the gathering. Selene was standing at the center, her long cloak was being blown around by the wind, her face was looking as powerful and calm as ever. Evanna was standing beside her and around them were the other cult members, they were hooded figures and all of them were waiting and watching. The air was thick with energy and it was suffocating and I could not help but feel the pull of it all, dragging me closer to my fate. The fate that awaited me. “Brielle, are you ready?” Selene asked, her voice smooth as silk, yet carrying an undert

Chapter 60

Brielle“Before you finally get over with them, first you must kill Micah,” Selene said as I finally entered her trance and all I could hear were her words. The knife glinted in my hand as I held it tighter and walked towards where Micah was. As I got closer to him, I could see how he was soundly asleep, unaware of what was coming for him. I tried to think but I could still fell the pressure in my head and Selene’s commanding voice. “Brielle, do it,” she whispered in my head. “This is the only way to become your true self, to become what you were destined to be. Let go of your weakness.”Zadyre’s voice reached me from behind, breaking through the haze for only a moment. “Brielle, stop! Please, don’t do this. This isn’t you. You know this isn’t you!”I could hear him talking but it felt so far away, it sounded like a mere whisper. I looked down at the knife in my hands and my vision started blurring. I could feel Selene’s grip on my mind getting tighter in my head as she dragged me d
