41. Cade

CadeI watched how Kaya loved being with her friends. They understood her in a way I never could, and it made me feel like maybe I had ruined her life by bringing her back here. She was still mad at me over Annalise. No matter the fact that now that Annalise was out of the clinic, I had stayed away from her, and she had stayed away from me. Jack had left. The tournament would be in a week. Kaya seemed to be constantly doing something, never wanting to spend time together. I knew I had messed up running out on her that night, but I thought she would forgive me, but now I was unsure. I knew we needed to talk, but she didn't want to discuss what happened every time I tried. She did, however, take to teaching me to sign every night. I had learned a lot in a week. Learning her native language, though, had been a non-starter. I sat there behind my desk. I looked at Kaya's empty desk. She had insisted on working out of the office. I am sure it was because she was trying to stay clear of me

Cade I sat at the table as Kaya and her friends came in. They were laughing, and I wanted to know what was so funny. The look on her face was so carefree. The last time I saw it was before Annalise was here. They all looked at Annelise, shooting daggers at her. Then her female friend Kimi signed to her, and Kaya burst out laughing again, and the two other males followed suit. What had they said to her that made her laugh like that. I wanted to make her laugh like that. She showed them to a seat closest to the front of the room. She walked away from them to sit at our table. Her smile was so bright. Food was quickly brought out. She looked down at the moose steak. I knew she preferred game meat to what we usually ate. Kaya had communicated to Becky that she would provide much of the meat for herself and whomever else wanted to eat as she did. Becky had adjusted her menu to accommodate her, and now, Becky would also cater to her friends. I watched as her friends bowed their heads.

43. Kaya

Kaya The morning light filtered through our big windows. "I am going to take you out today," Cade said over the link. "What?" "Yes. I am going to take you out today." I smiled. We had made up the night before, and I was in a much better mood than I had been all week. He kissed my collarbone, sending a shiver up my spine. "What about my friends?" "I am sure they can amuse themselves for a day." I chuckled. I knew they would find something to do. If anything, they would spend the whole time outdoors doing something productive like hunting or exploring. "Okay, well, what are we doing?" "It is a surprise, so hurry and get dressed." "But the shower?" "No shower today, little mate. I want every one to smell me on you." I blushed. I signed at him, and his face twisted as if trying to understand. He had the basics down, but we had not gone too much in-depth. "What did you say?" "I said I like the smell of us." He nodded, and as I got out of bed, he smacked my ass. I knew my tan flesh had

44. Kaya

Kaya I was glad it was just Cade and me. I had told Robert he was not needed as my guard because I would have Cade with me. He had been hesitant, but after assurances from myself and Cade, he relented and decided he would take the day to rest. I was glad. Last week, he hardly left my side except when I slept. He would sleep then, too, but he needed to look more rested. I understood now why there were always two guards for the Luna. Robert had told me he had all the confidence in the world I could defend myself, but yet he still was always alert. He deserved a day off. Cade opened the door of a black truck. I crawled up into it. He was fast coming around and getting in. The side of the building opened, and he pulled us out. Over our link, I asked, "So, will you tell me where we are going now?" "Someone is impatient." "Well, at least can you tell me how long until I know?" "It will take a few hours. Here is a hint: we are going into a city." "A City?" "Well, the humans that live c

45. Cade

Cade Kaya was like a kid on Christmas. She loaded up on so much stuff. She needed to learn how to use most of the bows as they were nothing like the ones she was used to using. It was the same story with the fishing gear. They had an indoor archery range, which she practiced on. She explained bows were used for birds. At least where she came from, they were. They hunted bigger game as wolves. The guns she had stayed clear of. But the knives. This is where we spent the most time. She insisted I get some, too. "You are an Alpha; you should hunt; it will be good for the pack, so you need something to cut up the game with." I indulged her. The store must have been happy we had dropped a ridiculous amount of money there. The money was nothing compared to the enormous smile that plastered her face. "Cade, that was amazing." She said over the mind link. "Well, we are not done yet." "What is next?" "We are going to have lunch, then go to the zoo." "The zoo, what is that." "It is a place

46. Kaya

Kaya We arrived at the packhouse late in the morning. We had spent the night hunting under the stars. We had caught a mountain lion and gorged our wolves on the animal. Both of us were so full we decided to camp amongst the trees. We had gathered sticks and started a fire as we could not fall a tree. It was a small fire and had burned out by the morning. We had to hiked back to the truck, and the drove home was long. When we pulled into the garage, Cade opened the door. We both needed a hot shower as we had been in the forest all night, and while I didn't mind being covered in dirt, it was not typical among the people in our pack. Cade took my hand. "I will have someone bring in our things. They can leave them outside our door." He said over the link. The night before, we had spent time learning more sign language. I told him it would be best if Saka and Len taught him the native language as I could not speak with him. It would help if he could hear the words. My native tongue w

47. Cade

Cade The day of the tournament arrived. There were fifteen packs in total that had come. As the Alphas and the Lunas came and introduced themselves to both Kaya and me, they would always linger on Kaya. I knew she would get many looks with her facial tattoo, her long black hair, and her tan skin. They all knew she was from the north, and other than the few who had interacted with her at the party at Nightshade Pack, they didn't know much about her. Nightshade Pack was not attending the tournament. They didn't want to travel when winter was on the cusp, and they already had a Luna, nor did they want any of their warriors to pair up with Annalise. I worried that many of the packs would feel the same once they met her. But there was more at stake than just finding a match for Annalise, alliances. I knew many still didn't like that our pack had made a comeback. I knew that most packs hated that we had lots of rogues and that they set them on edge. This would show them we are a pack t

48. Kaya

Kaya I sat there as Helen finished her makeup. She had done Kimi's first and then her own, and now she was doing mine. Kimi looked so different with it on. I thought she looked pretty before, but now she looked like something mythical. Helen had insisted we get ready for the party in her quarters. She knew we knew nothing about makeup and wanted to ensure we looked perfect. She really was amazing. Without her, the whole thing would have been fundamental. I knew very little about parties or hosting people other than you need to provide them with food. Which I did. "Thank you, Helen, you are amazing; this whole thing is amazing, and the tents and everything. "I mind-linked her. "Oh, hush about that. You did help a lot, you know. You helped with colors, what food would be served, and when. You also listened when I gave advice, which is more than some people can do." "Well then, thank you for doing Kimi's makeup and my own." "Are you kidding me? I have been dying to put some makeup o

49. Cade

Cade When Kaya emerged from Helen and Marks's room, my jaw nearly hit the floor. Her dark blue dress hugged her body like a second skin. Her chest tattoo complemented her gown like it was an intricate necklace. Her hair was up off her shoulders, showing her delicate neck. I had never seen her with her hair up. Her makeup drew my attention to her dark brown eyes. I didn't know where to look; everything about her pulled me into her more. Her eyes traveled over my body, examining how I looked in a suit. We had matched unintentionally. My navy suit complimented her dress. I pulled her close to me, feeling her bare back. Her dress was backless. Good goodness, how was I supposed to keep my hands to myself tonight when she looked like that with so much skin exposed. I peeked at her back to see her Crescent Moon Pack tattoo on her back. It trailed up her spine. No one would know what it meant, but I did. It was there on her skin. Though she was my Luna of the shadow pack, she would alway

50. Kaya

Kaya I watched as, one after another, men danced with Annalise. I scanned and watched the people as much as I could, as Nieva had instructed me to. Robert was attentive. Making sure I was doing alright. My friends took time dancing with one another and with me. We joked about how weird it was to dress in the clothes we wore or how some women were on full display. When I was standing next to Robert, a man approached me. His name was Howi, and he was the alpha from the Daybreak pack. I remembered meeting him earlier in the day. He was on the shorter scale of men in the room, and his features resembled those of someone from the north. But I knew of no one other than myself coming and living in the south who was from the north. He was also an alpha, so he could not be from the north. Men in the north did not lead packs; it was the women. It did not matter if they were of the alpha bloodline or not. I read his lips. "May I dance with you, Luna Kaya." I looked to Robert, mind linking
