31. Kaya

Kaya I felt Cade running after me. His presence was always something I could place. His fragrant scent alone I could remember within miles of him. He brushed against my arm. I stopped and looked at his lips as he spoke. "Why are the boys in a hole?" I mind-linked him. "I needed to fix a problem." "And what is that?" "One of their mothers came to me wanting to understand why the boys were fighting. Said they couldn't be in the same vicinity of one another. She wanted the fighting to stop, so I am stopping them from fighting in the future." "But how is pushing them in a huge hole that they dug going to stop them." "We do this in the north when kids fight. They must work together to get out of the pit. They may hate each other, but they must learn to work together, or else they die." "Die?" "Yeah, you know, not breathing." "You would kill kids to teach them a lesson?" "They won't die. Eventually, they will work together. That is how it is in the north. If we didn't work together, t

32. Cade

Cade Mark said, "Only one warrior meets your criteria." "Only one." "Well, rejecting your mate is not common in our pack. And if, for some reason, they have been rejected or have rejected their mate, they may have chosen someone else. The only one who had a mate that died is Robert." "Robert, the new guy." "Yeah." "She can't just have one guard.” "I don't know. She will be okay with it. She can handle herself in a fight. Let her have one. "That is not how it is done, Mark." "I know that. But she is different than us. She does things differently. And honestly, it is awesome she didn't want anyone to forsake their family. Or even give up the possibility of having one. Annelise would not even bat an eyelash." "You're right. I should just let her have one guard." I look up to see we are the last two in the hall. After dinner, everyone clears out. Those without night shifts are free for the rest of the evening. Everyone worked hard all day, so they should have their nights accessible.

33. Kaya

Kaya So, she would be here in minutes, and Cade expected me to meet her and her father when they arrived. I didn't see why I needed to be present when she came. I didn't understand why her father wanted Cade to find her a match. I sat there looking at my clean plate. Then Cade mind linked me. It was time. I followed him out to the front of the packhouse. Two SUVs pulled up. The door flew open, and I saw a beautiful woman emerge from the car. It was Annalise. Following behind her was a tall man. He was not particularly good-looking, but his stature was immense. She walked right in front of us. She went in to give Cade a hug, but I growled, showing my displeasure. I stepped forward. If she puts a hand on my mate, I will rip it off. The man came up next. I figured he was talking but didn't look at his face to see what he was saying. I had my eyes on Annalise. I didn't want to allow her to touch what was mine. After a few moments, I watched as they walked into the packhouse. I foll

34. Cade

Cade The high schoolers came and surrounded us. I looked at them and began to speak. "So, Luna is going to be giving the lesson today." I looked at Kaya. Signaling it was time for her to mind-link the kids. She looked at them, and I could see she was connecting with each of them, and then she joined with Mark and me. "We are going to be fighting today in your human form. Learning to fight as a human is as important as fighting in your wolf form. It makes us stronger." One of the boys said something under their breath, and the others began to snicker. Kaya looked at them, and although she hadn't heard them, she saw them smirking. Instead of speaking to them, she grabbed the boy's face. Pinching it with her tiny hands. I didn't know what she was saying, but the boy considered it a challenge. I felt her in my mind again. "Now, Thomas will help me show you why learning to fight in human form is important. Now, back away and make a square so there is enough space for us to fight." The

35. Cade

Cade Kaya grabbed Annalise by the back of her hair. Annalise thrashed around, but Kaya kept her hold. She finally let go when Annalise punched her in the ribs. I knew she had rebroken them. Kaya stepped back. "You can't hurt me. Cade told my dad I would be safe there." Kaya must have read her lips because she laughed wickedly. Then, in just a flash, Kaya charged at Annelise. The impact pushed Annelise through the window in the office, and Kaya fell through with her. I moved quickly to see if they were okay. I saw Kaya get up shakily, but Annalise just lay there. Kaya then got on top of her and began to beat her. If I didn't move fast, she would kill her, which would undoubtedly start a war. I jumped down from the window, landing on my feet. I came in and grabbed Kaya. Some people were looking at the whole scene. I had to keep a hold on Kaya as she kept trying to attack Annalise. "Someone get Annalise to the clinic now." One of the onlookers came, picked up Annalise's limp body,

36. Kaya

Kaya I sat down on the bed. I was not looking forward to this conversation. I was still trying to figure out what the big deal was. It is ridiculous that Cade thinks I did something wrong. Back home, no one would try to pull the shit that Annalise pulled. If it did happen, I would be allowed to rip her head off. In fact, it would be expected. Messing with mates is unheard of, not to mention they are sacred. I am tired of these people in the South thinking mates are not the most beautiful gift. I mean, picking someone to bind yourself to who isn't your destined is ridiculous. Cade mind-linked me. "You understand why I am upset with you?" "She was about to kiss you. What was I supposed to do? I mean, maybe you preferred to kiss her. Is that why you are upset?" I shouted through the bond. "You wanted her to put her mouth on you?" "Kaya, you know I would not kiss her." I stood there. I was over this. I was fucking pissed. I was being treated like I did something wrong. Annalise wa

37. Kaya

KayaI lay in bed trying to calm down, but I was pissed. How could Cade just leave me here? Fuck this, I thought. I was going to go for a run. I didn't care; it was the middle of the night. I rose from the bed and threw on some light clothes. I locked the door behind me. I was happy we had such high security in the room. No doubt this pack would not respect my boundaries and try to get into our room for some reason. I took off for the tree line. I quickly stripped and shifted into my white wolf when I reached it. I took off running. This place was different from home. The kids here needed direction. The members of the pack acted more like humans than werewolves. Why did no one hunt? Why did no one eat raw meat? The fact they never did pack runs that, too, was weird. I thought about Cade saying he took in a lot of rogues to rebuild the pack. So, most of them had broken the rules and got kicked out. What did that say for the character of this pack? I just felt like I was spiraling.

38. Cade

CadeI knew Kaya was pissed. She had felt like I chose Annalise over her, which was not the case. I just had to deal with everything. If I had left them alone, it would have made things worse. I headed to the arena with Mark and Helen. Mark said, "This is a horrible idea." "I agree, but what can I do? Jack wants retribution, and Kaya is okay with letting him have it. She knows I don't want to have a war with them." "You should not have allowed it," Helen said. When we got to the arena, it was packed. How did everyone find out about this fight so fast? It was just decided. "Shit, Cade, everyone will see her get demolished," Mark said. I didn't know if that was the case, but I was nervous. Jack was there waiting. "Where is the savage?" "Don't call her that." I practically yelled. We all stood in the dirt when Kaya appeared. She had blood on her. She had hunted. But how it coated her skin made her look like a warrior. Goddess help her. Fighting an Alpha was not something that ordinar

39. Cade

Cade James brought a phone to me as I didn't want to leave the clinic. I picked up the phone. "Cade." "Hi Nieva, what can I help you with?" "Quill told me that Kaya was supposed to be fighting an Alpha, and I wanted to know why and how this has happened?" I was pissed. How did Quill know that, and why was she calling to check what was happening with my pack? She has no say in anything that happens here. "How did Quill know about that?" "Kaya still has her link to the pack she reached out to him. He told me what they talked about. So I am asking you what happened?" "Well, I am sure he already told you if Kaya told him." "He did, but I want it confirmed with you. I don't like knowing one of my pack members is going through something like this. I left her in your hands, and I would like to think you of taking care of your mate." "She is no longer your pack member. What happens to her is no longer your concern." I didn't mean to appear so possessive, but she was not Crescent Moon Pack

40. Kaya

Kaya I didn't listen to the doctor. My arms had healed in a matter of days. My leg felt fine, so I insisted it was best to be up and walk around on it. Cade had fought me on it, but he could and would not physically restrain me. Crescent Pack would be here today. The pack had also warmed to me after I fought off an Alpha and had inflicted so much damage on him. I stood before the packhouse with Cade, waiting to welcome my friends. I had smelled them an hour ago and insisted on sitting in front of the packhouse before they arrived. They would be here by foot. None of them could drive. We had never had a reason to learn. My brother Quill learned from our father because he came to the South yearly, but these wolves had never been allowed to learn. When I saw them running up to the packhouse, I could not help myself. I raced toward them. Cade shouted over the link. "Kaya, you should not be running." I ignored him and continued running, practically tackling my friends as they approac
