Chapter Twenty One

Damon’s POVNeither Ellie nor Aubrey knew it, but I had been standing outside the door throughout the entire conversation. The reason they couldn’t figure it out was because I had hidden my scent. I heard Ellie walking towards the door so I hid in the empty room opposite the study where they had been until she walked down the hallway. I waited for a few minutes before I came outside to an empty hallway. I didn’t know why I had stood outside her but I couldn’t bring myself to leave. There were a lot of things I had no idea about and this was my chance to learn. I knocked twice on the door before I made my way inside. Aubrey hurriedly tried to wipe her eyes and make it seem like she had been busy before I walked in. “You don’t need to pretend, you know?” I said, clearing my throat as I leaned against the door. “What are you talking about, Damon?” Aubrey frowned as she fixed me with a stare. I was surprised that she had made me out already. She had been having difficulties figurin

Chapter Twenty Two

Aubrey’s POVThe next day we decided to get straight into business.I was getting tired of Hayden’s bickering but I didn’t have any choice but to deal with it at the moment. I had my suspicions that he was still feeling upset about the fact that he had tried to be intimate with me last night, and I had turned him down, but I held my tongue. “Aubrey! I asked you a question!” Hayden’s frustrated voice jolted me out of my train of thought. “I got a little bit sidetracked, Hayden.” I apologized, turning my attention towards him. “I’ve been trying not to say it, but I don’t know what’s wrong with you, Aubrey. Something is off but I can’t figure out what it is.” Hayden said, his eyes filled with concern. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Hayden. Do we need to talk about things like this?” I said, letting out a long sigh. “Don’t shut me out, Aubrey. You’ve been acting weird ever since you had that conversation with Aiden and Damon. It’s almost as if you’re a different person sudd

Chapter Twenty Three

Aubrey’s POV“I’m not entirely sure that it would be best for you to accompany me, so I’ll advise you to stay back,” I said, slightly hesitating. “Is there a problem, Aubrey?” Hayden asked. "I don't know, Hayden. I don't think you'll be comfortable being amongst werewolves," I answered, relaying my fears to him. “I came here despite knowing what you are and what the rest of your people are as well, I’m not going to back down now,” Hayden said, his eyes locked on mine. “Are you sure about your decision, Hayden? Aiden and Damon don’t like you and they’ve not attempted to hide how they feel about you either.” I explained, trying to change his mind."I want to come with you and you’re not stopping me from doing this, Aubrey,” Hayden said, his mind was made up. "You don't have to do this," I protested. “I don’t want any harm to come to you.” "I came here because I wanted to protect you, Aubrey. That’s what I’m going to do and I won't let you go in there alone," Hayden insisted."But I

Chapter Twenty Four

Aubrey’s POV“I still don’t know why I’m here and what any of this has to do with me or my family, Aiden,” I said, rather confused. I was the last person they ought to be sharing this information with because I had no clue how to help them cure this plague. All I wanted was to go back home with my family and never return here. “The truth is that the Moon Goddess didn’t give us an answer like Aiden had told you but she gave us something else — a prophecy,” Damon said this time around. My curiosity piqued and I leaned in slightly. "What kind of prophecy and what does this prophecy have to do with me?” I asked, turning my attention towards him. Aiden and Damon glanced at each other before turning to look at me. I had no idea what the hell was going on and then all of a sudden, like an epiphany, it hit me that there was something else going on. Something major that they were reluctant to share with me. Aiden's expression turned grave. "Aubrey, we need to talk to you about something a

Chapter Twenty Five

Aiden POVMy face contorted with anger as I stormed into the kitchen, pushing everyone standing in my way aside as I made my way to the middle of the room. “I’m going to ask this once and I need a credible answer, who the fuck brought pineapple juice to Aubrey’s room?” I thundered, my voice loud enough for everyone within twenty feet to hear as it echoed off the wall. “N-no one could have done that here, Alpha Aiden. We were strictly warned not to serve pineapple juice to her.” One of them eventually mustered the courage to speak. “Then someone needs to explain how it got into her room,” I said, my rage intensifying.“Someone couldn’t have walked in here and placed it on the tray that was being sent to her room, could they? Or are you trying to tell me that everything in here is being compromised?” The maids exchanged fearful glances. “We swear on our lives, we don’t know how it got into her room and we didn’t serve it to her either.” I felt something inside of me snap. “You’re a

Chapter Twenty Six

Aubrey’s POVA cacophony of words with different tones filled the air as my eyes slowly fluttered open. Hayden was sitting next to me and clutching my hand to his lips, while Aiden and Damon hovered above him, their faces were filled with a mixture of concern and relief. I tried to sit up but I felt a sharp pain in my ribs and I slowly eased myself back on the bed. “Hey, you’re finally awake,” Hayden said, his eyes glistening with joy as he kissed my hand. “How are you feeling right now?” My throat felt dry as I opened my mouth to speak but I was pretty determined despite being weak. “I—I guess I’m okay. I’m tired but I’ll survive. What happened?” Damon's expression turned grim. "You were poisoned, Aubrey. But we found out who was responsible, and they've been dealt with."Hayden’s grip on my hand got tighter. “They claimed not to have anything to do with the incident but I don’t believe them. They’ve got to know why the culprit carried out this dastardly act but they’ve refused to

Chapter Twenty Seven

Aiden’s POVI heard the commotion happening outside and I was curious to know what was happening. I glanced at the digital clock on the bed stand, I was just past midnight. Everyone was meant to be in bed already. I made my way outside my room to find Damon walking towards the stairs and I wondered if everyone in the house had woken up due to the noise. Damon and I made our way to the ground floor and into one of the rooms large enough to hold a large number of people. “What’s going on?” I asked as everyone parted for Damon and me to walk to the front. There was a man in chains with blood running down his face. “We found an intruder near the oak tree a couple of minutes ago,” A guard began. “I asked him a few questions and he froze, immediately I called for backup and we brought him here.” “Has any one of you seen this man before?” I asked, addressing the whole group. “No,” The group chorus and I nodded, taking in their response. I wondered if he had anything to do with Mrs. N

Chapter Twenty Eight

Aubrey’s POVI felt my world spin as my vision blurred. My head was pounding and I had no other option but to sit down before I blacked out. I let out a sigh as I rubbed my temple, trying to massage the pain but it only intensified to a larger degree. My head started spinning once more and I couldn’t shake off this foreboding feeling that something bad was about to happen but I couldn’t figure out what it was. All I could see was danger ahead of them - dark shadows looming, threatening to consume everything in their path. I tried to focus, to pinpoint the source of the danger, but it seemed to be coming from all directions.I racked my head trying to figure out where this danger could be coming from and why it was onto us but I came up blank. There were questions in my mind but there were no answers for them. I forced myself up to my feet, I knew that I had to warn Aiden and Damon about what was coming for us. They had to be prepared for what was coming after us. Even though I didn

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Aubrey’s POVThe next day, Aiden took me to a warehouse a few blocks from the mansion. It was pretty secluded, and the security around the area was tight. “What are we doing here, Aiden?” I asked, unsure about what was going on. “Seeing as we’re running out of time, I’ve decided to set up a laboratory for you to work on a cure to heal the pack from this plague, as the Moon Goddess had prophesied a while ago. There’s no one else who can do this, you’re our only shot at survival.” Aiden explained. “You’re dropping it all on me without hesitation,” I chuckled, rubbing the back of my neck. “I don’t mean to pressure you, Aubrey. But people fall sick every day, and we must do something quickly. You’ll be in charge of creating whatever remedies you come up with, and whatever you need for it to make it work, we’ll provide it for you.” Damon said. I nodded, suddenly optimistic, but my uncertainty lurked around the corner. “I’ll try my best. But what about Hayden and the children? Someone n

Chapter Thirty

Aubrey’s POVAs I worked on the samples scattered on the table that I had developed over time, my eyes were heavy, and I desperately needed to catch some sleep. I had been working tirelessly around the clock for several days now. My assistants found it hard to keep up with me, and I couldn’t blame them. I barely had time to eat or sleep; all I did was work. And oftentimes, I couldn’t help but wonder why I was putting myself through this for people who hated my very existence. The pack never liked me, and when everything happened, no one took my side because they saw me as a weak Omega wolf. And yet, the Moon Goddess had played a cruel joke on me. I felt my anger rising as I gripped the pen in my head. I owed them nothing, so why should I help them get better? I glanced around the laboratory and remembered the bodies of the dead children I had seen earlier, and I knew that I couldn’t stop. I had to do this for the innocent lives; I couldn’t let them suffer. So I kept working even w
