71. Not a chance in hell

Jamie didn’t realize that he stopped breathing until she spoke. His eyes could hardly believe what he was seeing, utterly sure that he was mistaken. However, when she finally said his name, a name only she knew, he realized that it was indeed her. It was Emma. His mate. His mate who left him two months ago, and whom he thought he would never lay his eyes on. She came back to him again in the most unexpected circumstances. Not a single day passed by without Jamie wishing for this day, but as he finally found her, lying mere inches from him, his mind went blank. He couldn’t form a thought. He couldn’t think about anything. All he could do was stare in bewilderment, as though the moment his eyes left her figure, she would vanish into the thin air. His mind traveled to that day in the hotel as he stood at the end of the aisle, watching her walk toward him. He could vividly remember her in her white dress and how she had allowed him to place a ring on her finger that evening, without

What a strange twist of fate it was. Falling into the lap of the man she meant to leave behind forever must have ripped the rug from under her feet. Jamie just couldn’t accept the odds of it. He was finally coming to terms with her absence in his life, he was finally realizing it might be over forever, and right then she appears out of the blue, pumping some hope back into him. What plot had the universe orchestrated for the two of them? Was this its way of conveying that no matter how hard one tried, they couldn’t go against the plan of nature? And that despite any efforts, what is meant to be will always prevail. It wasn’t the first time that Emma threatened to be separated from him, and like every other time, she found her way back to him in the end. He became the savior she would always need. 73. Faith

Jamie pushed open the large stone door to the dungeon. Making his way down the stairs, Jamie looked focussed on the growing cries of Emma’s. It seemed to him that she was in pain, crying out for help. The thought confused him. What was happening? For a moment, he was glad that there were no other captives in the dungeon at the moment, for it would’ve been rather difficult to handle her along with them. As he walked toward her cell, she noticed that she was surrounded by his men. As he moved past them, he watched how one of them whipped a rope and thrashed it against her back. His eyes widened as he watched her cry out in pain, her dress tearing open in the back to reveal her bleeding skin underneath. Anger rose cruised through his veins at the sight and he felt as though he would burst any moment now. Finding his voice, he said in a cold tone, “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” The man, Peter was his name, whirled around in surprise. He frowned at him in confusion, nonethe

74. Impossible

Jamie’s eyes roamed over the document in front of him, the context of it failing to reach his mind. He was barely present in the moment, for his thoughts were being plagued by the past. No matter what, he couldn’t seem to get his shit together. A constant worry loomed over his figure, demanding his full attention.  He closed the document with a sigh, realizing that there was no way he would be productive like this. Unless he solves the mystery at hand, he won’t be at peace.  “Rafa!” He yelled, gripping his forehead. A sudden pounding had begun within, and Jamie realized he could not sustain long without rest.  The door opened and in came a tall, lanky man. It looked as though he had just awoken from sleep. “Yes?”

75. Running away

Emma woke up with a jerk as the doors of the dungeon closed shut. As she blinked, the vision before her cleared to reveal a man coming toward her. She thought she had seen him before, but she wasn’t sure. He was surely one of Jamie’s men, and most likely, he was here to punish her like the rest of them.  When the man approached her inside her cell, Emma was taken aback from the smirk of his face. Unlike other men, he didn’t regard her with disgust or anger. Instead, he seemed to be amused by something, and she couldn’t fathom what about her situation he found funny.   “So you’re the one, huh?” He asked, arms crossed in front of him. “Who has been giving our boss sleepless nights.”  Emma frowned at him.

76. Punish her

“You found who?” Tom’s voice boomed in the hall as Jamie dropped the news on him like a bombshell.  Tom had arrived in the morning and had been busy ever since. As it was his father who had invited him, Jamie couldn’t demand for his time at his leisure. It wasn’t until evening that the two of them made time for each other and retired for a glass of whisky. As they poured their second drink for the evening, Jamie started speaking of the brutal turn his life had taken in the past one week.  Jamie sighed, nodding in dismay. “You heard me.”  “I’m sorry, but let’s go back a few steps.” Tom said, putting his hands up in confusion. “You’re saying you found Emma?” &

77. Get away from me

“All of you. Leave.” Jamie announced as soon as he entered the dungeon.  His men nodded at him in acknowledgement, gathering their things and walked out in silence. Once the dungeon was emptied, he shut the door behind him and locked it. He took slow steps towards her cell, suddenly growing aware of his apprehension. It wasn’t the first time he was seeing her, then what was he scared of? Reeling a deep breath in, he fastened his pace and stopped right outside her cell.  When his eyes looked through the iron rods that separated her from him, his breath hitched in his throat. Disbelief gripped him as he ran his eyes over her meek, deranged figure lying limp on the ground. For a second, he believed that she had no life in her anymore, but the subtle movement of her chest with every breath she took assured him

79. Let me go

When Emma opened her eyes, new surroundings welcomed her.  She blinked her eyes rapidly, trying to gather bits of information from her head. WIthin seconds, everything came flooding back to her. Her stay in the cell, Jamie talking to her, a woman trying to help her into new clothes and her traveling to a new place. The last thing she remembered before dozing off was the warmth of the floor she slept on and she gazed down below, she realized that she was comfortably sprawled on a mattress.  She sat up straight slowly, running her eyes around the room she was in. The heater was on, she thought, and the blinds were rolled down. A small light lay beside the window, casting its orange glow on the entire room. It was like nothing she had ever seen before, making her wonder how she ended up here after all. &nbs

80. Anybody else

As Jamie walked into the room, the pounding in his head intensified. Having barely caught any sleep last night, he tried to rest for a few hours in the morning before an invitation, or rather, an order arrived summoning his presence for breakfast. Seeing how he’d already been avoiding his parents the past few days, he realized he had to make an appearance this time. Reluctantly, he dragged his feet to the grand hall where his parents and Tom greeted him by the table. “Morning,” He muttered as he settled down beside his friend. “We missed you last night.”  His father mused. Jamie avoided his eyes, “I had urgent matters to tend to.” “Well, nobody
