Chapter 70

Wyatt"You are really thinking about sending her then?" his voice echoed a form of grief and disappointment. "Sug's been keeping busy, been helping the boys with their homework, even made a truce with Bas over his piss-poor attitude. They have been working hard on Louis' project and Claude's paper." he filled me in. I closed my eyes, gaining control over the swell of anger and disappointment that bubbled up Beau holding his breath on the other end."What did he do Beau," I growled muffled as I grit my teeth and force my claws to obey me and remain within."He forgot his place is all," he attempted to sugar coat it."He's too old for you to be coddling him Beau," He sighed on the other end."Truth is I forgot my place too, and he overheard Bri say she wasn't staying permanently, and you know how he's got that chip on his shoulder. He didn't direct it at her specifically , but I know it bothered her, so she set the record straight and he paid his penance on his own, after I made him bus

Chapter 71

BriWhen Beau went to get Wyatt I was cooking up a storm. My stomach filled with butterflies and my anxiety left me perplexed. I'd taken a few more liberties than I probably should have. Though if I have to say I never anticipated Beau bringing the chicks home. We had gathered enough supplies to create a coop for them. I just hoped he wasn't angry with me. My nerves had me battling my discomfort, that reminder just making it even worse. The heat of the day was amplified in the small house by the heat of the stove and oven. After Beau left I had tied up my tee, exposing my midriff, in an effort to seek relief. My hair was thrown up in a high ponytail, sweat ran down the center of my back. The old pair of cut-off shorts did little to properly cover my 'assets' however, any more coverage on the unbearably humid late September day and I'd be wilted beyond functionality.Tonight was catfish etouffee. I'd been working the beans and rice from scratch since this morning, fresh bread was cook

Bri"Wyatt, put your things in the bedroom," he said quietly."Thank you, Beau," I answered in the same tone, incredibly thankful for the tactfulness of the transactions between the two of them. He kissed me on the cheek before meandering down his hall. I pulled out the bread and moved the pots off the burners. I sent my magic out, giving each boy a soft nudge to come and get it before I went to face the Alpha in his room. It was one of the new things I had found. I could reach out to them without digging too deeply. Just a nudge to the surface of the mind. Beau and I had practiced it after he admitted he was innately curious about it. I rapped on the door jam."Dinner is ready," I said softly."I tried to get whatever you needed, blame Beau if I'm missing anything, he told me what to get," he said, as he pulled off his shirt, exposing the heady display of solid muscles, I tried not to count the ones that traveled down into that V that disappeared into his pants. Goddess save me from

Chapter 73

Wyatt I had planned on maintaining a sense of distance when I got home but that all fell apart the second I'd seen the emotion on her face over a dog. I didn't care if it destroyed me. I'd let her bleed out my heart and walk away. Beau had told me what she had told the boys and now we knew some of what she hadn't said. Now aware of how detrimental leaving a coven of that size without a compass, let alone a council seat. New Orleans and the surrounding area would be in complete chaos without someone focusing and policing that power. It would be bad for all the supernaturals in the area. She had to go back, no matter how well she fit into our world. Even though she may very well want to be a part of it and we wanted her to be here with us. Brianna had to rule her world just like I had to rule my own. Fate was stupid like that. Until she was ready, we would be that family, we would let her love us, and we would weather the loss of that love when she was no longer with us. The hard part

Chapter 74

BeauAfter waking up to Boo licking my face, I was already 10 mins late when I realized Wyatt wasn't up. I could only guess what I would be walking in on and how awkward that would be for Bri and my Alpha. When I made it to the doorway I found them basked in the light of Sug's moonlight, one of the new books I picked up at the library on the nightstand. He was curled around her, the cover kicked back, his nose snuggled into the croc of her neck. In 10 years I have never seen him more peaceful. Her arm tucked around his, Wyatt's hand engulfing hers. His leg tucked between hers pressed up close and personal to the most intimate parts of Bri's being. I swallowed, but if I didn't wake him, Landry would have my head and our jobs, it was the deal that afforded us the flexibility we needed to be present with the boys, one of us would always promptly replace the other. I poked him, trying not to disturb Bri."Wyatt, we are late, you gotta get up." he groaned but didn't move, but a golden eye

Chapter 77

BeauI had managed to make it on time barely, I had also nearly lost my life a few times weaving in and out of traffic but nobody else had to know that. I parked in the lot with the other roughneck vehicles, grabbed my bag, and quickly threw the cover that I kept in the compartment under the seat with the helmet I kept it around in case I gave a girl a ride. I dumped my bag on my bunk and hung up my father's jacket. Like Wyatt, it was one of the few things I had kept of his. When I Pushed through Connor's office door I walked in on them arguing about me being late when I wasn't. I squared off at the young buck of a future Alpha and cocked my head."Got something to say? Let's hear it," I said as I casually crossed my arms over my chest, the Beta of a Rougarou had a higher rank than this Alpha's spawn. He attempted to hold my stare but couldn't bear it, looking away and cursing on the way out the door. He wasn't even the Luna's rightful son. He was just his father's bastard and from w

Chapter 78

WyattAs Beau anticipated, coffee and breakfast were on the table when I got back. Bri was dragging and in her world. By the scent of her, her cycle had started. She had made oatmeal and flavored it with brown sugar and cinnamon. The boys trudged up the steps of the back porch chattering about building the hen house. They stopped staring at her back where she had already put her nose back in the book. I shook my head at them not to mention it. It was one thing to pass by girls and women at school and around town but living with a woman and becoming accustomed to all of her scents was a learning curve for them. I just hope they can be tactful."Eat up boys," she said, gesturing to the stove with her cup. "What's on the agenda today?" I asked Bri, scraping the bottom of my bowl. She tucked a bit of paper into the page she was at. "Chicken coop, project notes, and laundry, and when I say laundry I mean you are each taking a bag and filling it with whatever nasty nonsense you got hiding

Chapter 79

WyattThe sound of her voice soothed The Beast, each night she curled up with us and read and I found myself settled and content in those moments my mind on the story and not what couldn't be. Her cycle had finished and her mood picked back up. I watched her work with the boys on their homework without frustration and confusion, always relating things to something they could grasp if they did not understand. I even had messages from the boy's teachers about the strides they were making. However, there was one from Bastian's Algebra teacher that had me fuming. She on more than one occasion had asked him if he needed help with anything to which he had just shrugged off and disappeared. It was Friday the boys clamored off the boat and the smells of Bri's cooking wafted up from the house."Claude, Lou, go put your bags up and wash up for dinner. Bas went to follow."Not so fast Bas," I said, clamping him on the shoulder. He stilled and looked over his shoulder at me wearily."What's up W
