Chapter 50

BriI woke engulfed in Wyatt's scent, my cheek sweaty and my pillow hard beneath it. I was so comfortable I was about to drift back to sleep when my fingers twitched feeling hair beneath them my eyes shot open accosted by the sun filtering into the room. My hand rested on the dusting of curly hair across his chest which had indeed become my pillow. I also realized my leg was flung over his body. My shin and calf were between the inside of his leg and another very firm, well-endowed appendage was evident against my shin. His dick. Only boxers and thin leggings between us. 'it's just a natural reaction, doesn't mean shit. Ignore it and go back to bed,' I told myself. His arm held me to him, his hand firmly at my hip, securing me there. When I tensed his hand shifted sliding up and down before gripping my hip bone more firmly. A faint rumbling purr vibrated in his chest. Apparently, the Alpha was into cuddling when he wasn't consciously refraining. I closed my eyes, for the moment I wou

Chapter 51

WyattThe scent of swamp, darkness, and night-blooming jasmine invaded me. My eyes keenly navigated the landscapes of my dreams. An empyrean light moved through shadow and I, The Beast, sought out its trajectory and moved within the veins of the swamp to meet it at its destination. I sought that which should be part of me. There she was stepping across roots and across lily pads as if she were little more than the light she emitted. Bri, no longer rail thin, but curvy with full hips and breasts as her sundress swayed with her movement, strode with slight confident steps until she stopped staring into pools of water. Three intertwined, raised circles made of root and decay and framed in duckweed were illuminated by her. She stepped on a root that bordered one of the mysterious pools and dipped her toe in. Her eyes met mine and then she jumped. As her head passed the surface, panic struck.I woke up wrapping myself around her, her heartbeat spiking in surprise but steady, reminding me

Chapter 52

Wyatt I was sitting with Beau on the front porch of the boy's house watching Bri surrounded by the boys who were attempting to show her how to fish. Their dock ran long across the front of the stilted house before jutting out into the water at the end. I was sipping sweet tea Bri had rustled up this morning letting it steep in the late morning sun in a glass pitcher on the porch. I watched her line go tight and heard her squeal of delight. She did a little happy dance that warmed my heart as well as caused it to ache. The boys helped her pull up the fish in a scoop net. She dropped it the first time she tried to pick it up and they all laughed as she struggled chasing it across the dock as it flopped around. She held it high with two hands for us to see. Beau and I clapped and whooped for her as the boys took it to add to the fray they had already caught. She had refused to use the grasshoppers the boys were catching and opted for chunks of Vienna sausages. Which, to Claude's delig

chapter 53

Wyatt "I see," he said as we walked over to the table that was away from the stove and smoker. "What exactly does that mean for us now?" he asked, nearly a whisper leaving him as he glanced at Bri. 'That you have another soul in your care,' I answered now knowing two things about Bri. She could track sounds and noises farther than she should be able to and she wouldn't pry into this conversation because she had boundaries, unfortunately, due to nobody having boundaries with her. 'You want me to protect something I know nothing about?' he asked. He was acting like he felt he had been left out of an important conversation. Maybe he had but there was too much to explain about Bri that a 17-year-old wouldn't or shouldn't have to understand. 'All you need to know is that Bri is perfectly capable of taking care of herself, however, that doesn't mean she doesn't have her own demons to conquer.' I told him. 'I heard her screaming last night,' he said. 'Sounded like someone was ripping he

Chapter 54

BriAs I turned the pot of beans and rice and moved food around so it wouldn't burn, my mind wandered. He was leaving me. That was what had triggered me to spit harsh words at him. I would never fathom jeopardizing the pack. It had hurt he thought I would risk it and my panic that I wouldn't have his pillar to hold me steady threatened the darkness to close in. I trusted them in my heart but my mind wasn't ready to back down from its heightened sense that something would go wrong at any moment. I could be betrayed, they would try to control me like the others, anything was possible . I couldn't take a full breath and the blackness began to breach the edges of my vision. "Wyatt," I breathed. He grunted, turning around. I felt his attention on me. "Take over please," I whispered, as the panic began constricting my chest, narrowing my vision further. "I need the bathroom," I lied walking away hoping he was too distracted to hear my heartbeat and labored breaths. I just walked away hurrie

Wyatt She looked back at me, her posture matching mine, arms crossed and battle-ready. "I think you know I've already shared more than I should have. What I want to say, it seems I can't help myself," I said, trying to stand with some sort of ground between us. She huffed. "Neither of us asked for this and I understand what positions we are both in. Just know I will Never risk this pack, Alpha. Beau, those boys, you, I'd soon enough end myself and forgo my vendetta, before I allow danger to touch any of you. But let me make this crystal clear because we are a lot more alike than you realize. If you think you are a monster then that makes me one too, but deep down we are ruled by our humanity and that's what makes us better than them," she spoke simply. I shook my head looking at her. "Mon Sha, you are anything but a monster," I argued. "You are the most pure soul I have met in my lifetime, a monster is the last thing you will ever be to me," I countered. That idea was ludicrous. Chapter 56

BeauI'd have to say I never realized how lazy of a man I was, till a lil five foot-four Caramel-haired fury entered our lives. Every morning I took the boys to school and came home to her beautiful face with a hankering to tackle another item on Wyatt's project lists. I whined and complained. I even tried the puppy dog eyes but she would give me that look and after a few days I stopped trying to get out of it. The truth was the effort and work seemed easier with her around and I won't lie to myself and say I wasn't still noticing the curve of her ass or the valley of her tits she exposed every time she bent down to help me with one project or another. Without Wyatt here to tease about it there wasn't much to do with it. As far as I was concerned she was spoken for and I'd never do that to my brother. However, I wasn't prepared for the vastness of Bri's mind. Sugar made me think outside of the box when we were faced with a problem in fixing something, and between the two of us even w

Beau I didn't speak at first I tapped her with my toes "Sug," I pleaded. I hated it when she went quiet on me. It meant she was dealing with some kind of pain from before. She didn't always share but this time she sighed relenting. "Lorraine had a thing with appearances, she felt the beauty of youth was in being thin, shapeless, her distaste for me only grew when I got older and she cursed my genetics," she said, pulling the joint from behind her ear and lighting it with her finger. She took a long hit, blowing it out over the water away from me. She shook her head. "How dare I have the audacity to have a figure, what an impossible task she felt she had to adorn me with stylish dresses to parade me around like prized cattle at her galas and parties. With an ass too fat and hips wide. Let's not forget having breasts, I was worthless. Nothing would be flattering," Bri said, rolling her eyes. Before I could retort, she held up a finger. I thought she would tell me off for being about

Chapter 58

Beau We all stopped in our tracks. Jaws slack as her picture came up on the screen in one of those lacey poor excuses for a dress she had talked about. She was younger, the white lace tight to the narrow pinch of her midsection snug to the flare of the curve of her hips, with a slit so high I doubted she was wearing underwear. The heels of her shoes were so tall and narrow it was a wonder how she could stand. Her cleavage defied gravity as it strained against the sweetheart neckline, where her hair cascaded in soft waves over her shoulders. Eyes looking down, lost, empty, her face reserved, resigned. That girl looked like death walking compared to the woman who now resided at home. I vaguely remembered Louis muttering shit. And a sharp whining sound in my head before old man Beauregard poked me with his cane. "Move along Reds, lines moving. "Those of us in the pack have been referred to as Reds or Rouges by the locals for as long as we can remember, they didn't know or chose to fo
