Chapter 41 - Lost

Friday rolled in and I was coming back to Domenic's apartment with the gift I got for Summer. Actually, I made her one, I had Domenic bring my canvas and paints to his apartment so I could make Summer a painting. But after hearing she never had a dog I went to a dog shelter and picked up a German shepherd pup. Initially, I was thinking of getting her a small dog but the second I saw his big brown eyes I was sold and I know she will be too. I carried it in a dog traveler and I stuck a big red bow on it. When I opened the apartment door I could immediately smell the food Anthony was preparing and could hear him and Domenic chatting in the kitchen."Hey guys, come in here." I say as I pass through the hallway leaving my jacket on the hanger as I enter the living room."What did you do?" Domenic asked me while he pointed at the pup I was carrying."Come on, hear me out she never had a dog so I thought..." He held up his hand in the air so I would stop talking as both of them walked behind

Chapter 42 - The honeymoon is over

"What do you mean you can't find Summer?" I ask surprised. "Did you call her?" Stupid question. "That was the first thing I tried when I woke up but her phone was turned off so I went to her room and she was not there." Domenic walks away from me nervously. "Umm, have you tried Anthonys room?" I don't want to imply they slept together but chances are they did and we are here worrying for nothing. "I already checked nobody there and his phone goes to voicemail." He says as he tries calling his phone again. I walk toward him and place my hand on his chest to calm him down. "Let me get dressed and I'll help you look, ok? Sit down and wait for me here." I take the first thing I find in my suitcase and throw it on me before going to the reception with Domenic. "Hello. Hi, we are looking for the two people who came here with us, Summer Davis Jones and Anthony Elston." I show the woman their pictures on my phone as Domenic paces on the spot behind me. "Oh yes, the newlyweds. They are in

Chapter 43 - Gregory Davis Jones

The car pulled up next to a fountain in front of a big mansion. I've only seen houses like this in movies, with a butler and servants waiting by the door as we arrived. Domenic took my hand and guided me in as Summer and Anthony walked behind us. "Mr. Davis, your father is waiting for you in the dining room." The butler said then proceeded to walk in front of us. We walked with our figures intertwined and took glances at each other, as we came closer to what I assumed would be the dining room we heard voices and laughter. Even tho his father was an older man with hair and a beard grey as ash, I could see Domenic's facial features on his father's face. He was dressed formally in a black suit with a white collar and a red scarf wrapped around his neck as he smoked a cigar. But the last person I imagined seeing today was Alice, but she was here drinking wine and talking with Domenic's father. It was obvious he enjoyed her company but his face changed as he saw us come in. Domenic drew

Chapter 44 - A familiar face

"You don't need to sell it." Domenic argued with Summer because she wanted to sell the apartment he gave her as a present. "Need I remind you Dad cut me off. I moved in with Anthony so I dont really need that apartment but what I do need is money so I can help Anthony open up the restaurant." Summer was handling this situation better than I could have imagined. She was in love and ready to take on the world with her husband. The sudden cut in her budget didn't scare her, she was determent to make it work. "Your brother is right sweety, you dont have to sell anything, as far as the restaurant is concerned I have everything covered." Anthony said on the other side of the kitchen island as he poured us a glass of wine while we sat and ate. "I want to help, and like I said we dont need that apartment." She said as she fed him a piece of meat from her fork. "Why dont you hold on to the apartment just a little longer, it's always good to have some real estate. Just look at me, it's a go

Chapter 45 - Living in an illusion

"Leo." I said shocked as I looked at his face as his arms rested around my waist. We both looked after the car that was about to hit me but it was already too far to see the plates."Autumn, are you ok? Did you get hurt?" Leo asked as he slowly realized me from his embrace."Yes, I'm fine. Thanks to you Leo, you saved me." After how we left things and the time I hadn't seen him, having him in front of me felt good despite the circumstances. "What is going on Autumn, why is the cafe in this state?" Leo asked as he pointed to the broken windows."Someone vandalized it but I don't want to talk about that." I say as I look at my friend, his ginger hair is longer and his normally shaved face now has a beard forming. "Where have you been Leo, I wanted to talk with you about what happened." His eyes dodge mine for a moment and can feel him hesitate but this time I'm not letting him leave."Why don't we go sit somewhere, have a coffee, and talk? We owe it to all the years we've been friends.

Chapter 46 - I never forgot

I returned to our table and slid into the booth as Leo finished his beer, so how do I say to him that Domenic is on his way here? I mean I shouldn't have a problem with it but want to rub salt on a fresh wound, and I don't want Domenic throwing a jealous tantrum either."Good you're back, I need to go now so I paid the tab. Do you want me to drive you somewhere?" Leo said as he gathered his jacket in his arms. "You're leaving already?" It looks like he can't wait to get as far away as possible from me."Yeah, I'm gonna go spend the rest of the day with Mom and my brothers. They came to have a barbecue and to send me off tomorrow." I have a feeling I am not getting an invitation this time."Well Domenic just called me, he told me to wait for him here." Leo nodded his head and then slowly got up and I followed his action. "Why don't you wait with me for a bit?" The look on his face tells me he really doesn't want to. "I don't think that's a good idea." Of course not, what was I thinkin

Chapter 47 - Leo

We drive up to my house and the first thing I notice is how clean my front yard is, my mother's roses still blooming and my front porch clean and free of leaves. As we get out of the car I see my old neighbor throwing out trash and he waves his hand at me when he sees me. "Hello, Mr.Evans." I say as I walk over to his fence. "Autumn, is that you child? I haven't seen you in a long time." He and his wife used to babysit me when I was little and Mom had to work, later as I grew up his eyesight began to worsen so I would often read books for him. "Yes, Mr.Evans. How are you?" I ask as I extend my hand to him and he gently shakes it. "Not as good as you but I can't complain, as long as I have my Olivia by my side I'm great." If someone ever told me to show them a happy couple I'd pick them. No matter how many years have passed their love remains the same. "I see you brought company, don't tell me you are finally settling down." I smile as I turn to Domenic and pull him over so I can i

Chapter 48 - Leo's death

Domenic's POV "How long has she been like this?" Summer asks me as she brings me a cup of coffee while I stand on the bedroom door watching Autumn curled up in her bed. I take the cup in my hands and then close the door of her room as I guide Summer down the hall to the little space with chairs and a bookshelf Autumn used for reading. "Ever since we came home from the funeral, she curled up into a ball and cried into her pillow until she fell asleep." I sit down and place my cup of steaming coffee down as Summer sighs and joins me. "Leo's death hit her pretty hard, Anthony told me just how important he was to Autumn, how much he helped her." I can still hear Autumn's screams in my head when she collapsed into my arms in the hospital as Leo died and the doctors called it. She only got up from the floor to hug his grieving mother who was suffering the loss of her son with the rest of the family. The whole night I felt like an impostor among them, even if they didn't know it I didn't

Chapter 49 - What I have to do

"Mr. Davis, we've already been through this. You have to say your feelings out loud because only when you hear yourself admit it can you take action." Dr.Miller said as she opened her notebook and wrote something down as she talked to me. I hate it when she does that, not knowing what she writes makes me wanna get up and take it away from her. But then again that's why I'm here to explore my feelings. "I have a hard time seeing her in such a bad state, and I fear she loved him more than she realized at the time." Dr. Miller just looks at me like she knows that's not everything I have to say and I sigh as I brace myself for the next words that are about to come out of my mouth."I think she did in fact love him but now that he's gone for good she finally realised it and that's what killing her." I don't know if that sums it up but I feel like it's a start. "Mr.Davis, you are just telling me what you think she feels, but what are you feeling?" God, woman that's what I'm paying you to f

Chapter 50 - Favorite person

Autumn's POV I lay in my bed, curled up into a ball with my eyes closed and head buried in the pillow with my nose out just enough to breathe. My body feels heavy and the sole thought of moving seems impossible. I don't feel hunger or thirst, just emptiness within the part of me that used to be filled with love for someone who's no longer here. I'm filled with regret, because of me Leo spent his last days suffering. Maybe if I had gone to look for him, maybe if I did a better job explaining my feelings for him. Or if I told him the history I shared with Domenic he would have understood me better. How is it fair that on the same day he saved my life he lost his? Where was God when that happened? Every time I ask myself that question I remember the things Leo used to say to me after my mother died. "Have faith, everything is a part of a bigger plan, you just don't see it right now." What was the plan here? What point could it possibly have to kill someone's child, someone's brother, s
