Chapter 41: Kaylani

I had to make some modifications to my class schedule since I can’t shift. Zephyr told me she was feeling left out since the rest of us are pregnant and I’m sure in a couple of weeks she’ll be announcing her own pregnancy. In addition, Everett began treating Brooke with Avani’s DNA. Her body is beginning to respond and he’s hoping that he can wake her in another week or so. He called Yhendorn about books on human-dragon mate bonds and child births. He and Kenna arrived one evening, a couple of days later, just before dinner and the four of us sat down to go through what he brought. “These are ancient manuscripts, you understand that? These are one of a kind books that I and my family have collected over centuries,” Yhendorn says, before laying a canvas bag on the table. “I understand. I’m only interested in them because I need to know how to keep Kaylani and my children safe during and after her pregnancy,” Everett assured him. “What are you concerned about, Yhendorn?” I ask him.

Chapter 42: Everett

It’s been an extremely busy time for me in the laboratory. I’ve been working to fix Brooke’s DNA which I think is about done. I’ve been working on the anti-venom for the paralytic, which I am ready to begin testing and then I’ve been pouring over the manuscripts that Yhendorn gave me. I realized right away why he wouldn’t want anyone else getting ahold of these. It has everything from dragon anatomy, to ways to claim a dragon, to ways to kill a dragon. My stomach turned more than once with the reminder of the cruelty of humans. However, it’s not just humans that are cruel. The elves and other shifters have also been cruel to the dragons. The desire for power makes people do terrible things. Every night, when I wrap myself around my dragon, I’m impressed all over again by her ability to love unconditionally, so wholeheartedly. After everything that has been done to her kind, she still willingly gives herself me. I know she can feel the turmoil in my head, feel the fear that has start

Chapter 43: Kaylani

While I know that Avani won’t like it, I know that he’d be willing to allow Everett to experiment on him for this. However, it’s not up to Avani, it’s up to his rider, Merethyl. Everett called a meeting with the group over breakfast before classes begin today. Now that we have so many instructors, it’s taken a big burden off of me to try and teach all the classes. However, as time goes on, there are more and more classes that we need to add into the curriculum, such as how to properly claim a dragon. I don’t plan to give anyone pointers, but they need to know the laws surrounding the claim of a dragon. A dragon can only submit to one rider. If a group claims them, like what happened with the elves, there has to be one leader who the dragon submits to. They can’t submit to the entire group. Now that so many of these hybrids have dragon genetics, it’s important that they know when and how they can be claimed and for the others to understand the rules of claiming. As we walk to meet wit

Chapter 44: Everett

After dinner, we all gather into one of my laboratory spaces. I had warned Enya and Aspen about what we were going to do so they knew not to get nervous if they heard shouting or loud voices. Fenian had offered to assist me, but I told him Kaylani would be there to assist. I did take the time to talk to him about Tesha. “You want to tell me about you and Tesha?” He glanced at me as he looked over Brooke’s DNA. I’ve already confirmed that it’s ready, but Fenian is my star student and I want him to learn as well. “What about me and Tesha?” he asks. “I’ve heard a rumor that you might think she’s your mate? Or at least, you’re acting like she might be. I want to make sure that you’re not doing something stupid Fenian,” I tell him. He stands, turning to face me. “What do you mean, ‘stupid’? Do you mean spending time with Tesha?” he asks defensively. “No. I mean pretending that she’s your mate so you can hurt her. That girl’s been through enough.” “I would never hurt her,” he growls.

Chapter 45: Kaylani

I knew my mate could do it. He’s so smart, so diligent about helping others, that I knew that the anti-venom would work. What I wasn’t expecting is that he’d take it further and make a vaccination. As excited as I am about that, I’m more excited that this morning, we’re going to wake Brooke. She’s young, about Nova’s age and Nova is only 13. I know Aspen and Enya will finally settle once Brooke is awake and while they don’t have family looking for them, Brooke was kidnapped from a family who loved her. Ishir has been searching for them and he said he thinks he has some informationto share. He’s going to come by later to talk to us. Not only is my mate brilliant, but he’s also romantic. Being outside, watching the meteor shower, making love under the stars, it was so perfect. He is so perfect. “Why are you purring?” he says, wrapping his arms around me, whispering in my ear and making my body respond instantly. “I was thinking about how perfect you are.” I hadn’t even realized I was

Chapter 46: Everett

Brooke woke up a little while before Kaylani returned from class. The moment her eyes opened and she saw me standing beside her, her eyes went wide, her heart rate spiked, and she began thrashing around. “Hey, hey, hey. You’re not in the laboratory. Look, Enya and Aspen are here,” I say quickly, trying to calm Brooke while the girls rush to her bedside. “Wh…Where…?” “It’s okay, Brooke. This is Dr. Everett. Do you remember, you started to shift and those creeps were there, and then that huge dragon, his name is Ancalagon by the way, he scooped you up and brought you here. This is the camp where we saw that red dragon turn into a person and that man rushed her inside. This is him. He’s that guy,” Aspen explains quickly. She turns and looks at me cautiously. “Why do I feel funny?” “Well, there are a couple of possible reasons. I’ve had you in a medically induced coma for about a week. Your shift wasn’t going well, your bones started protruding from your body, do you remember that?”

Chapter 47: Kaylani

I checked on Brooke throughout the afternoon. Because she was hungry, Everett said she could eat small meals every couple of hours as long as they were bland. This actually helped because her grief was keeping her from being able to eat much, but her desire to leave this room was forcing her to eat. Aspen and Enya stayed with her all day, sometimes, just holding her hand, sometimes talking to her about what it’s like here. By dinner time, I was able to help her sit up at a table to eat with Enya and Aspen. I already know that she’s not strong enough to leave the hospital tonight. She might have been if not for the news of her parents, but that has slowed her recovery and after dinner, I put her back into her bed as she’s too exhausted to walk. Everett comes in a few minutes before our meeting with Cedric, Ishir, and the others. “How are you feeling, Brooke?” he asks her. “Tired,” she answers honestly. He nods, checking over her vitals before turning back to her. “I’d like you to

Chapter 48: Everett

I had a very enjoyable night with my mate, one where both of us found our pleasure multiple times and I was able to dominate my mate enough that I then let her take control. I had her ride me backwards, in a reverse cowgirl, so I could see her pink ass cheeks bouncing on me. Since my mate seems to enjoy her spankings, as evidenced by her dripping wet pussy while I was spanking her, I spank her some more while she rides and when she has her last orgasm of the night, it was so hard, it pushed me over the edge again. I’m awake before her this morning, loving the feel of her in my arms, her long blond hair, mixed with the sapphire blue, spread across my chest and arm. I gently stroke her back, once again feeling so lucky that this dragon is mine. “Mmmm,” she murmurs, snuggling closer to me. “How lucky do you feel?” I smile. “Is my dragon feeling needy or greedy this morning?” “Greedy,” she says, looking up at me, her sapphire eyes glimmering. She gives me a naughty smile before sliding

Chapter 49: Kaylani

Everett and Merethyl got Fenian and Yhendorn to agree to the paralytic testing. Yhendorn wanted to be on-site for the process to help if the vaccine didn’t work. So, we waited until the weekend to test Fenian. Yhendorn flew in with Kenna, and while he went inside to talk to Fenian before the test, Kenna went to talk to the dragons. Another one shifted this week, this time it was one of our female fire dragons. Both Everett and I have realized that the females seem to be shifting before the males. I asked the others and it’s not something that the dragons had ever consciously paid attention to before. I’m on my way to the hospital when Tesha comes rushing up to me. “Kaylani!” “Tesha, what’s wrong,” I ask, seeing the panicked look on her face. “Is it true?” “Is what true?” “Is Fenian going to do some stupid test to see if the elves are immune to the paralytic?” she asks, tears in her eyes. I take her hands. “No, that’s not exactly true,” I say, pulling her away from prying ears.

Chapter 50: Eliane

When I wake up from my most recent blackout, I find myself curled up next to a white dragon. The same white dragon that nearly killed me when we got out of my father’s laboratory. I have no idea how I got here, and I’m terrified that this dragon captured me in order to eat me, or feed me to it’s young. However, this little dragon seems to like me. I say it’s little because it’s the smallest dragon I’ve ever seen. And I say it likes me because it begins nudging me gently when I wake up. Then, I see that it has angry, bloody marks around its neck. “Hey there….” I look on its underside, “boy. I’m going to check your neck, okay. You look injured.” Instead of screeching at me or blowing fire or something, he croons at me. I take that as a good sign, and I walk up to him. “Ouch. That looks like it hurts.” I gently run my fingers over part of the wound, watching his neck flinch at the touch. “Sorry, boy. I didn’t mean to hurt you.” I look him over, and he watches me. “You remind me o
