Chapter 81. Tied To You

Lola walked past the swaying gowns, the spilling champagne, and the crystal that clinked in the air as they cheered for this happy occasion. Some had shifted into wolves and were roaming around the ground knowing that they were safe here, it was secluded away from the town and its human inhabitants, and the gate guard wouldn’t let anyone in tonight.Lola watched as the wind blew through their furr and they ran freely with not a care in the world and let their wolves live out their energy- jumping in the air and running, as fast as they could, through the forest and back.“Wow,” Melissa said beside her as they gawked from the hill.Lola turned, her eyes fell in worry and she looked around for Ed.“Where is he, what happened?” she asked.Melissa grabbed her arm and calmed her nerves with a soft smile.“He went home but he’s not leaving anymore. He’s staying right here, with me,” She smiled.Lola laughed, even if she couldn’t be happy for herself, she could certainly be happy for her bes

Chapter 82. Territory

The Title ceremony was over and Jax was now officially Alpha of the Shadow Pack. The next several days went by in a daze with many things returning to normal and the town preparing for the next big event.Fall decorations were being put aside to make room for the Christmas festivities that would soon commence. In Wild Cliff Christmas was somewhat of a religiously celebrated holiday- it started on November 20th and continued until the new year. November 20th had been a celebration marker for as long as they could remember. It began hundreds of years ago when the first settlers put up the tree in the center of town by the roundabout to celebrate the prosperous future they had on this new land. It was said that witches hexed the properties to make the land healthy and the homes unshakeable- how much of it that is truth is unknown but the residents of Wild Cliff do love to tell the stories.Lola was in town and helped the university with removing pumpkins, candles, lights, and ornaments t

Chapter 83. Where My Mark Goes

It was buzzing inside the mansion when Lola arrived. She listened in to hear if maybe Jax was close by but there were too many voices overlapping and she couldn't separate them to find his.She walked to the study thinking that’s where he had to be and she passed many warriors on the way, all of them eyeing her with judgment as she tried to hold her head high and not shrink under their glares.Lola refused to let it show just how intimidated she was but it ate her up inside every day and more so now that she kept comparing herself to Lavina.Down the corridor, she began to hear his voice. It was loud and demanding but was he talking to himself? She didn’t hear anyone else. She walked down and opened the door only to see him sitting behind the desk, slumped in the chair with his eyes closed and the phone pressed to his ear.Jax finished the phone call and dropped his hand on the desk. She contemplated speaking up but he seemed so tired and in no mood to talk. Perhaps it was better if s

Chapter 84. Left

The late autumn sun shone in through the window and lit up the room.It didn’t happen often in Wild Cliff that you were woken up by the sun but it seemed the perfect metaphor for the events of their lives, or at least Lola thought. She turned in bed with a smile and patted the empty side next to her. That side of the bed had been made and was cold. When did Jax leave? She got up and tied the robe around her before walking out with a yawn. The smell of a sugary breakfast made her stomach growl and the pleasure-filled pain in her sore bones reminded her of last night. Though it was different from their earlier times, this had been a rollercoaster of pleasure and heat and Jax claimed her body like his life depended on it…several times.Lola covered her lips with her fingers when a smile threatened to spread. She walked down to find Jax with his bags packed by his feet and his father dressed in a grey wool coat and a passport in hand.“I didn’t know we were leaving now, I'll pack,” Lola s

Chapter 85. Just One Look

Lola rubbed her temples when it felt like a block of bricks came flying at her. The information Ash had instilled and quizzed her on was something these pack members learned from the day they were born. It was supernatural laws, werewolf laws, human laws, and everything that had anything to do with pack borders, guards, and protocol in case of war or threat and these were just the basics.“Look chipper, we’re barely halfway through.” He cast the thick book of laws down on the table and the sound had Lola jumping in the chair. She grabbed the handles and glared fiercely at the inconvenience standing in front of her.Ash crossed his arms and raised a brow.“You’re cute when you’re angry, do you know that?”Taken aback Lola shrunk in the chair and tried to look away.“What else do we have to go through?” She asked. He noticed her body shifting uncomfortably and her reluctance to look at him, he smirked and continued walking around the desk.He dragged his ring across the surface and rasp

Chapter 86. Nash

They stood in the study and Nash was still in a trance with his fingers tightening around Lola’s hand. Ash kept a close look on them both, making sure that nothing was to happen but even he saw the change on Nash’s face.“Coven?” Lola asked and looked at Ash who clenched his jaw with a deep scowl directed at Nash.He let go of her hand in a swift pull and turned his hand over as if to look after a burn or a mark of pain but there was nothing on his skin.Lola looked at her hand. Had she hurt him in some way for him to pull back like that? She wanted to step back but caught herself and decided against it. One thing Nash was right about was the ways of leadership and she needed to start gaining their respect.Without answering with words Nash raised his hand and gently pulled his fingers in towards the palm of his hand. The windows behind the desk opened- slowly with a loud chiseling sound- and a gust of wind blew in and circled Lola’s head.It was as though the wind danced around her b

Chapter 87. Dirty Little Secrets

Three days had passed since Jax left for New York- Lola officially met Nash and he dumped the news of her marital secrets. Three days of mind-numbing thoughts and fears confined Lola to her bed- because what could she do until he was back? She lay awake staring at the ceiling. During these days she hadn't heard from Melissa who was probably busy with Ed and Lola didn't want to bother her with this newest bit of supernatural drama; Melissa deserved a few days off, even if she would hate her for it. She realized that the conversation she wanted to have with Jax when he returned would most likely not sit well.Jax had said since day one how important her safety was and she didn't want the first thing they did when he got back to be a fight. With furrowed brows and a deep wrinkle forming above her nose, she decided to plan something for his arrival.Lola darted out of bed and looked around the room- she was in the guest room and it wasn't all that romantic but surely there was something

Chapter 88. His Hidden Afairs

The candles flickered around them reminding her of the plans she’d made to, for the first time, do something romantic for the man she’d married. All the while he was downstairs, working on god knew what but here she stood with files in hand that told her much more than she wanted to know. Jax had been in New York, yes, but not alone.Spotted going into the Ritz and out the next morning- at restaurants and cafes, museums and parks- was Jax and Lavina. The pictures were time-stamped, they looked to have been taken with a long-range camera by someone hidden in a car or behind a bush and why would they do that? That smile she saw on Jax’s face made her shrink. He had his arm hooked in Lavina’s when they walked and in the rain, he held an umbrella over her head. In one picture they were dressed up, she wore a gown and pearls and he had on a suit.“Isn’t he handsome?” She said, her voice broken and meek.Ash watched her shrink and succumb to pain and heartache. It was like he could see it

Chapter 89. Watch Me Burn

The green in his eyes shone like emerald in a royal crown. But as he watched the picture fall from the delicate pinch of her fingers, fluttering toward the floor from her squatted position they darkened. The picture, weighing less than a feather, fell toward the flame next to Lola. She didn't notice, caught up in a whirlpool of pain and suffering she stared mindlessly at the floorboards while the picture landed in the flame and caught fire. The fire spread onto the resting pictures on the ground and they all set aflame like burning domino tiles. Heat quickly swallowed the room and smoke rose around them suffocating the air. The flames spread big and wild around them but Lola sat still, the heat didn't bother her, she barely felt it against the coldness of her skin. “Lola!” He grabbed her arms, yanked her up on her feet, and pulled her behind him but Lola jerked away and shook her head. The golden strands of her hair illuminated under the light of the fire and she shook her head, th

Chapter 90. Protected

“Yes sir.” Ash gripped the phone roughly in his hand and only eased when he heard the first crack. The warrior looked with a worrisome gaze as Ash nearly broke his phone.“No, but sir…” he groaned and hung his head.“Yes, I understand. Yes, sir.” He gritted his teeth and the rage returned tenfold in his eyes as they darkened and the green swirled around lightly in the black. He lowered his hand with dark eyes and the frown deepened as he handed the phone back to the warrior- who gulped and was careful with each move as he took the phone and left.Someone audibly burped and the smell of beer sifted down the entrance in a hurry.Ash turned and watched a semi-drunk wizard stumble into the pillar around the stairs, he held the bottle with one hand and chugged what was left and with the other, he held himself stable enough not to fall over.“Nash.” Ash barked.“Hey!” Nash stumbled over the newly polished floors and cheered in the air with the now empty bottle. His skinny legs buckled benea
