Chapter 111. Where I Saw You

Days had passed since the night that Jax and her had their moment in the guest room and Lola would often look around the mansion in hopes of a glance or a sighting of him- they had become a rarity lately. She looked down the hallway leading to his study but the door was always closed. Whenever she heard footsteps or voices outside the bedroom door she would hurry outside to catch him but the voice was never his. She asked Ash where he had been hiding but he too had been less for the words as of late. His father was still in the mansion and had been coerced by Mr and Mrs. Blackwood into staying for the Winter Whimsy. He had been delighted to hear that Lavina was planning and she had talked nonstop to any ear willing to listen to her plans and ideas.Everything had been set in motion and the Blackwoods were paying for the extravagant event with Lavina leading the charge. She was out in town every day preparing for the fest and she ruled the committee with an iron fist.At one point Lol

Chapter 112. Rosalie

It was the day before the Winter Whimsy, everyone had been oddly quiet and complacent with no drama or threat to anyone's life. Lola and Melissa celebrated this by eating dinner with her parents the night before the big event.Everyone in town was eager to see how it would all unfold and they were especially excited about the annual tree lighting ceremony.“Can you believe what Lavina has managed to put together in the last two weeks? The thought alone makes my head spin and I know for a fact that the mayor didn't lift a finger,” Mrs. Clifton said, raising a brow and looking with judgment brimming in her eyes.“It’s not that big of a deal,” Melissa muttered under her breath.“You should been a part of it, it’s right up your alley with the planning and primping and bossing people around.” Melissa scowled at her mother and put a few peas in her mouth. They ate and drank a few glasses of wine- and shared stories and memories of the year that they’d had. There was so much that Melissa cou

Chapter 113. Lucy

“Why do you know who she is?” Lola asked. Mrs. Clifton raised a brow and squinted in retort.“You answer my question first and maybe I'll tell you,” she made a deal and the girls accepted.“Lola is doing an art assignment for a paper in her class, she chose the Wild Cliff founders,” Lola fought to keep her face as neutral as possible but was shocked to hear Melissa's quick lie. She also felt a wave of longing for her art classes that she hadn't attended in months, too much of her life had gotten in the way of her school but still she felt worse that Melissa had suffered for it. “Alright, I'll buy it.” Mrs. Clifton perked up and crossed her arms. “That is Rosalie St’Cloud, I know this because she is my great, great grandmother and one of the founding families of Wild Cliff.”“What?!” Melissa flew up from the computer and Lola’s jaw dropped to the floor. “What did I say?” Mrs. Clifton stepped back and raised her hands from the exaggerated reaction she got from her daughter.“How d

Chapter 114. One Order Two

The sky was painted in deep orange swirls and a red line down the horizon where the sun was slowly rising. The girls lay awake as they had for most of the night, talking about the many ways that life could go now that they knew what they did.It wasn't a gamble anymore of ifs or buts but reality kicked them down three pegs and they had debated all night if maybe they should stay down.Life was scary enough as it was but they had made some good things for themselves. School, friendship, a town that was safe in the daylight when the truth was kept locked behind a door. It seemed that even if they tried to forget and move on, reality would not let them go completely.Even if they returned to school, sat behind a bench, or attended a lecture and one day got a job in the quaint old town, there would still be werewolves, vampires, and witches roaming amongst them. They would always be outnumbered and overpowered, nothing they had or did could measure to supernatural strength. The fog was l

Chapter 115. One Foot Out The Door

Lola walked down the hallway in her oversized t-shirt that she’d slept in and the sweatpants she borrowed from Melissa. She hung the jacket on a pedestal next to the stairs and headed straight for Jax. She heard hushed voices the closer she got and didn't bother to knock when she arrived, but rather just stepped inside. He had after all given her a deadline.“Lola,” Jax was leaning back against the desk and Lavina was standing with a smile and rose-tinted cheeks, holding the clipboard on which she had all the details regarding the fest. “Hi!” Lavina cheered.A shadow crossed her from behind and the door closed. Ash stepped around Lola and took a stance by Jax. “It’s been a while.” He said, glancing over Lola’s face. “Yes, not from a lack of trying on my part but it’s good to know where we stand.” Lola’s tone threw them off guard. She was short and montane, leaving much to be desired. though it didn't take them long to realize that she was speaking to them just as they had spoken t

Chapter 116. The Devil Of Which I Speak

They arrived at the outdoor entry where everything had been set up for a winter wonderland-themed fest, it was Alice in Wonderland meets the Christmas chronicles and they had taken the word ’whimsy’ to a whole other level.Candy canes the size of a large tree, snowflakes that looked like they fell straight from the sky, and a thick coat of snow where snow shouldn't be.They realized now what part Nash played with his magic in bringing all of this to life.“Holy cow,” Melissa turned on her heel to take everything in but even then she only saw small parts. The even ground stretched for miles through the town and city hall had been transformed into an extension of the party for those who wanted a warmer place to be. The red, green, white, and glittering gold colors were all around them swirling and twirling, bobbing and sliding in different directions and forms.Children ran up on a makeshift hill covered in snow and rode down on the tails through a wreath-swirled tunnel.Their laughs w

Chapter 117. Mistle-oh

“She did an amazing job,” Lola said, trying to break the thick ice coating when they were alone.“She did.” He said huskily and looked down at her. His gaze burned into her skin, his eyes glistened as they scanned her as they had many times before and his tongue slid over his lips. They stood staring into each other's eyes and Lola noticed the life in Jax’s eyes had dimmed. It wasn't what she looked into before, he seemed hardened and cold. Not just towards her but in general.Lola didn't know the first thing about being an Alpha but she was starting to realize that perhaps it entailed your persona shifting from tough but fair to cold and hard. Was it Alphas or just Jax?There didn't seem to be any in-between.“You wanted to talk.” He said.Taken aback by the hurry in his tone she realized he wanted to leave.“We haven’t talked since that night in the guest room. You slept in my bed, told me to be patient with you and then I don't hear from you for weeks.” Jax’s brows furrow and a ch

Chapter 118. Do You See Me Now?

She froze, time stilled around them and that picture would now be etched in her mind forever as it was all she saw wherever she looked.Nobody moved, she heard faint gasps and a low growl behind her but she couldn't turn around. For Lola, it felt as though hours passed without either Jax or Lavina moving but when a hand weighed down on her shoulder and forced her to turn she noticed everything moving a lot faster and people not having noticed what happened. She looked over her shoulder at Jax and Lavina and saw that they stood apart from each other, Lavina was by the table and Jax wiped his thumb over his lips and turned his head, his eyes locked with Lola’s, and his hand fell to his side. “Lola,” Ash said and tried to get her attention.Melissa had her arm hooked in Ed’s and watched with a glimmer in her eyes as her worst fear came true. But at that moment Lola couldn't breathe, she couldn't hear what anyone said and needed to get away from all of the people that surrounded her.On

Chapter 119. Get Inn...

They were back in the mansion. Ash had gathered the Alpha's warriors and filled them in on the situation. One of the cleaners had turned on the radio and Lola heard on the news that extreme weather was to be expected as she walked down after having changed clothes. Extreme rainfall was to occur during the night and the following days in and around town. She had the keys to her car and a small bag with toiletries.Ash and the warriors came out of the office and saw Lola standing at the entrance. His shoulders rose in a predatory bow as he stalked towards her.“Where do you think you’re going?” He asked. “To find Jax. Whatever he and I are, it’s my fault that he’s been taken. I'm going to bring him home,”Ash was in front of her before she could blink and ripped the keys from her hand.“The hell you are.” He put the keys in his pocket and grabbed her wrists when she tried to get them back. “It’s my fault that he was taken, he was protecting ME!” “And I will get him back!” He growled

Chapter 120. Fire And Ice

They drove up to the Inn though it was further away from the street than advertised and they circled a sharp turn that led up a narrow path.As they arrived at a red neon sign saying ’open’ and a lady sitting with headphones on behind the desk inside they looked at each other, a lingering silence that was questioning just how good of an idea it was to go in. The rain poured around them. Drops on the roof of the car began to sound like firecrackers went off in a tunnel.Ash gave Lola his jacket to hold over her head and they shared a look before they ran from the car and slammed open the door as they tumbled inside. The lady looked up, slowly and gently as though a couple of strangers hadn't just tumbled into her hallway. She slowly leaned to the side to look past them and watch the pour outside of the Inn.“You kids don’t listen to the news, do ya?” She laughed. She wiggled her finger in front of Lola and pointed to the den.“There are towels in there, go grab yourselves some and I'll
