Chapter 51 - Reconnecting

Jackson POV Rushing upstairs with Carrie on my shoulder I hear the chuckles of some of our Pack members around us. I race to the top of the stairs and gently place Carrie on her feet while I open the door to our suite. Her face is red with embarrassment, which I find adorable and kiss the tip of her nose. “They adore you,” I murmur to her as she gets in the suite before me. “You love embarrassing me,” she says as she moves towards the fridge to get water. “Want me to order some food first or do you want a shower first?” I ask her as she gulps down the water. “I want a shower first, and then some food,” she says as she puts the empty bottle on the counter. I nod and wait for her to move. She looks at me and pulls her shirt over her head. She stands there staring at me, moving towards her leggings, and sliding them down her legs taking her panties with them. My breath catches as I look at my beautiful mate standing in front of me wearing nothi

Chapter 52 - Special Delivery

Carrie POV “You need to be faster, Carrie,” Jackson growls at me as we continue hand to hand fighting. There was more confidence in my ability to fight as Reba, but I needed strength of my own in the event whoever I was fighting tried to poison me again. I prayed to the Moon Goddess it would not happen. I did not know how much more Reba could take. “I will fight to the bitter end,” Reba says in my mind. “I know,” I murmur as I take another hit to the abdomen falling at Jackson’s feet. “Sorry,” I mutter as I move to stand up but feel something might have cracked. “Baby, are you alright?” Jackson asks down on the ground beside me. “I might have cracked something. Give me a minute, Reba is quick to heal me,” I reply as Jackson groans. “I am going to have you train with Jessica from now on. I have been holding my punches, but I sensed you were distracted, and I wanted to show you how quickly things go wrong,” he says apologetically,

Chapter 53 - More Questions

Jackson POV “How the hell did this happen?” I demand of the director on the phone. “I do not know but I will get to the bottom of it,” she replies quickly. “Is he already getting visitors?” I demand wanting to know how this “gift” could have bene sent to Carrie. Coincidentally on the day scheduled for the Luna’s ceremonial run. He is more aware of what is going on than I would expect or am comfortable with. “Absolutely not. He has not earned the right to visitors. I will see what I can find out and call you back,” she says hanging up cutting off the call. I turn and see Jessica and Mandy helping Carrie breathe through the shock of the gift she received. “What did she say?” Christian asks quietly. “Nothing of value. She is going to see what happened and if he managed to connect with anyone on the outside. If he did not, then that means we have someone on the outside carrying on his mission,” I observe as I watch my mate fight the tears that

Chapter 54 - A Little Luck

Carleton POV I had finally arrived at the Evergreen Pack territory. My heart was racing at the thoughts of seeing my mate again. Jessica. A beautiful name for a beautiful woman. My thoughts continued to go back to the night we had spent together. We had been so happy. Not that we had spent a lot of time talking about the future, I think with a chuckle. We had been too busy exploring one another. But then something happened, and she had disappeared the next morning. Without a trace. Nobody had seen her. There was absolutely no indication she had been more than a figment of my imagination. But I knew she had been real. I had not marked her immediately, which I have regretted since. I needed her to know what my job was. The role I played in keeping the Wolf Packs regulated. Not everyone would view it as a noble career choice. Being an Alpha, many would assume I would be running my own Pack. But I had been born third to a strong line of A

Chapter 55 - Clarity

Jessica POV I look around my room and wonder where I can go to be as far away from Carleton as possible. I want to believe him. I am desperate to run into his arms. But I cannot forget what I heard that morning months ago. I was glowing. Excited for the future. And then it was like hitting a brick wall. Everything came tumbling down. I could not go through the rejection. I do not know why; it was just something my entire being rejected. My wolf fought me to stay. She wanted to hear him say it. She did not believe it when she heard it. I did not want to, but I knew. So, I pushed her down until we escaped the territory, and went rogue. I could not face my family. I could not share my shame at not being good enough for my mate. Jessica, an Alpha she-wolf. Rejected. It was unheard of. I knew my family would be worried, but it was better this way. I still had not contacted them since arriving at the Evergreen Pack. I wanted to but I kn

Chapter 56 - Sacrifices

Carrie POV We had just finished Mandy’s welcome ceremony. It was the first ceremony I was able to participate in as the Luna of the Pack. It was a ceremony which mixed the blood of the Luna and Alpha with the newest member. It was a beautiful ceremony, and one I was proud to share with Mandy for my first Pack member welcome. She was emotional. I think she still believes that she is undeserving to be part of a Pack. At some point she will believe and that will be for Josh to help her see. And with my support as well. When we were getting ready, Jessica had shared her news with me. I hate to admit it but a selfish part of me was sad that she would be leaving. But the practical side of me was happy for her and Carleton. Speaking of which music had started and I could see Jessica and Carleton up dancing to a slow song. Jackson was busy with a Pack situation, so I mingled around meeting people I had not met before as well as speaking with some I

Chapter 57 - Shock

Jackson POV I am racing through the forest when I hear the gunshot. “Carrie!” I yell through our mind link, but it is still closed. I know she was angry that I took Rosie to the Pack hospital, but I had no choice. I would have done that for any Pack member. And the fact that many know Rosie is pregnant and allegedly with my pup, has many eyes on me. I had to do what was right and would explain that to her. But I also did not see what had happened and I needed to know. I trusted Carrie and do not believe she would have done anything like that. But I needed her to confirm it for me. As I clear the forest line, I see that the rogues have run off, with a couple having been captured. My bigger target is the crowd surrounding what I assume is the whomever got hit by the bullet. I push my way through the crowd and guiltily breathe an internal sigh of relief. Carrie was not hit. I want to pull her into my arms, but I see her sitting beside the bod

Chapter 58 - Healing

Jackson POV I had been pacing Carrie’s hospital room floor for most of the night. The doctor had just been in to check on her. They had removed the bullet from her arm. She would have another scar, but they were able to clear out the silver that had entered her blood stream. The reality is that there is little experience with a hybrid wolf such as Carrie, so they did not have a lot of answers. They felt she would be fine; she had simply burned off an excess of energy with her healing and now her body was healing itself. Her resting was not what had me on edge. The way things were between us before she blacked out were on my mind. And hearing from the doctor that they were keeping Rosie for observation, was weighing on my mind. What game was Rosie playing and how could she convince our doctor to support her ridiculous behaviour? Or had something happened and I was simply being ignorant to it all. There was a tap on the door. Taking one quick

Chapter 59 - Questions

Jessica POV I felt butterflies in my stomach at the thoughts of being with Carleton again. We had been magic before. Would we be magic again? The lack of sparks concerned me. Hell, it terrified me, if I was going to be honest. I had made so many mistakes; there had been so many misunderstandings. Was the Moon Goddess punishing me for my choices? As I stood in front of Carleton, he pulled me forward kissing me with the promise of more. I swayed into his arms, and he released my lips simply holding me. I felt like I was home in his arms. “Let’s get you dressed and then get some food into you,” Carleton murmurs stepping away from me. I see a pile of clothes on the table, “Mandy brought those for you. She was camped out most of the night until Josh and I convinced her to go get some rest,” Carleton tells me. Mandy was like a baby sister to me. I would feel the loss of seeing her every day. Of being with her. When I had first met her, she w

Chapter 60 - Getting Answers

Jackson POV I continued to sit by Carrie’s bedside refusing food when it was offered. I was sick with worry. I did not want our fight to be the first thing she thinks about when she wakes up. I look at the door to Carrie’s room as it opens, and I see a doctor walk through. “Alpha, I hate to bother you but there is a Pack member waiting outside to see you,” she says. “Who?” I ask annoyed at being interrupted. “Rosie; she wants to update you on the pup,” she says embarrassed to be bringing this to me in my mate’s room. “I am not leaving my mate,” I reply looking away from the doctor. She nods but before she can exit the room, Rosie saunters in as if she owns the place. “Jax, I need to speak with you,” she says in her annoying voice. I had never realized just how annoying it was until I had met Carrie. “I said no,” I say standing to escort her out of the room. She dodges my hand and walks closer to Carrie. “Get the hell away from my mate!” I
