CHAPTER 31

The flight back to Louisiana was uneventful, thank the Goddess. And when we landed Kane already had a couple of his warriors waiting for us at the airport. We were ushered to the car out the front and we got out of there as fast as possible. But it wasn’t long before I saw two black SUV’s following us. And Kane noticed me constantly looking out the back window at them. “Savannah. It’s alright. They’re with us.” Kane said. “What?” I asked. “They were waiting along the highway. They were making sure that we weren’t being followed and now they’re making sure that we get back to the pack safely.” He said. “Oh.” I said, relaxing into the chair. I was starting to feel really exhausted. I didn’t sleep at all last night and we’d been traveling all day. It was already starting to get dark, but we weren’t far from the pack. And I could feel my eyes getting heavy as the humming of the car was really soothing. I felt Kane put his arm around my shoulder and he pulled me into his ch

CHAPTER 32

As soon as I saw the look on Kane’s face, I knew that Daniel was here to say that my mother was dead. It was way too obvious. “So, how did it happen? Booze or pills?” I asked. “Actually, she was found near the border.” Daniel said. “What was she doing near the border?” I asked. “We don’t know. But it happened very early this morning. We don’t know why she was there, there are a lot of unanswered questions right now. All we know is that, she was brutally murdered.” Daniel said. “What?” I asked, shocked. “That can’t be right. That can’t be my mother. There’s only one thing that’s going to kill her and that’s an overdose. Everyone knows that.” I said. “I’m sorry baby.” Kane said, squeezing my hand. “Calvin. His men have to be here. Surrounding this place.” I said. “That’s what we think. But we don’t know. We’re going to investigate this fully before we come to a conclusion. We’ve got our best people on it already and they will have answers for you very soon.” Daniel said.

CHAPTER 33

KANE POV I really expected more of a reaction from Savannah after hearing that her mother was killed by a vampire. I know that it did shock her, but it didn’t send her into a fury like it did me. I think I was just more furious because I knew that vampires were hanging around the border or my pack. I knew rogues were, but not vampires. Why the hell would Naomi be out there meeting with them? Why the hell would she even go near the border in the first place. She was fully clothed, which means she wasn’t out for a run. The whole thing had me confused as fuck, especially the vampires that were hanging around outside the border. They had to have seen her and snuck up on her. Or something like that. That’s what I was thinking. That was until Daniel came back to find me. “Is Savannah here?” Daniel asked. “She’s upstairs. What’s going on?” I asked. “Can we go into the office? Where it is soundproof?” Daniel asked. So I led him to the office and he closed the door behind us. I

CHAPTER 34

SAVANNAH POV When I woke up that afternoon I was really surprised that I had even fallen asleep. I rolled over and Kane was laying on the bed next to me, reading one of my journals. I was surprised that he was still interested in them. But I guess he wanted to know what I grew up with. Or he could be trying to find something in there that would point to a weakness of Calvin’s. I don’t know and I didn’t really care. I don’t know why I was even letting him read those things. It was all bullshit that I managed to survive and get away from. When Kane realized I was awake he put the book on his bedside table and he laid down beside me. He rubbed his hand over the side of my face, moving the hair out of my face. “How did you sleep?” He asked. “Fine. Actually.” I said. “You sound surprised.” “I am. It’s weird. Every time I fall asleep next to you, I don’t seem to have nightmares.” I said. And I saw the wide smile spread across his face and he wrapped his arms around me. “Well,

CHAPTER 35

When everything calmed down in my mother’s room Kane sat up and looked at the glass that was lying everywhere and he looked at me, really confused. “What the fuck just happened?” He asked. But I had an equally confused look on my face. “I don’t know.” I said. And I looked around again when Kane tried to touch me but I flinched away and moved to the top of the bed so he couldn’t touch me. “Don’t. I don’t know what the hell just happened. I don’t want to hurt you.” I said. “Savannah. Let’s just go home and we’ll try and figure this out.” “No. We won’t.” I said. “What do you mean?” He asked. And I looked around at the room, remembering something from when I was a lot younger. **************** My dad was abusing my mother and I was standing behind the door watching. I was sure that this was the time when he was going to kill her. He was out of control and he was beating her to a pulp. She was pregnant at the time and I was only 6 years old. I couldn’t stay behind the door an

CHAPTER 36

“What is it Kane?” I asked. “It’s from the coroner.” He said. “Alright.” I said, urging him to go on further. He can’t just say that and not tell me what they found. “He did a blood work on your mother. Absolutely nothing turned out to be normal.” “What is that meant to mean?” I asked. “I mean, he found traces of werewolf DNA but it was mixed with foreign DNA that he can’t identify.” He said. So I grabbed the file off of him. “It says here that there’s one more piece of DNA in her system that he can’t identify. So, what does that mean? My mother was also a hybrid?” I asked. “Also?” Daniel asked. “If you repeat that to anyone I will have you executed.” Kane glared at Daniel. And Daniel shut up immediately. “This makes no sense. First, we find out that my father might not be my father. And then my mother was killed by possible vampires instead of werewolves. And now she’s a hybrid. A werewolf mixed with something else.” I said. “We will find every answer that you are

CHAPTER 37

The man looked at me with a smirk for a moment and Kane was looking between us, completely confused. “You have a really good memory. We met several times when you were younger. I was surprised to see you when you first got to this pack. I used to visit Calvin’s pack all the time when he needed help trying to track people down.” He said. “That’s right. You would always help him find the people that escaped his pack.” I said. “Wait, what?” The guy said, confused. “Whenever someone ran away. You used your computer and whatever you did to help him track them down.” “I didn’t know that they were runaways from him.” “Well, they were punished severely. Some of them were killed because you helped him.” I said. “I swear to the Goddess Alpha, I do not work for him anymore. I have been loyal to you for the past four years.” The man said. “He’s a member of this pack now. He doesn’t work for Calvin anymore. Calvin doesn’t know where he is.” Kane assured me. “I fucking hope not. O

CHAPTER 38

I was reeling from that information. All this time I thought that I didn’t know my mother’s maiden name, but she’d been using it all along. I wonder how she got away with that with my father. I know that he was really close to Calvin, so how the hell would she have gotten away with that. There’s no way Dominic would have wanted that to get out because it would have embarrassed him. But then Landon landed another devastating blow to me. “You weren’t born in Calvin’s pack.” Landon said. “What?” I asked. “You were born in Black Moon Pack.” Landon said as he was still typing away, trying to find whatever information he could. “It’s not your mother’s original pack. They took her in briefly while she was pregnant. But she left just after you were born. It’s not far from Seattle.” Landon said. “Isn’t Seattle really prominent for their vampire presence?” I asked. “Yeah. They are.” Landon said. And I looked at Kane knowingly. She went to go and look for Nicolas before I was born

CHAPTER 39

When I woke up the next morning I looked over and it said that it was 6am. Kane was still asleep, but when I tried to get out of bed he tightened his grip around me. “I want to go for a jog around the territory.” I said. “No. Stay in bed.” “How about you come with me?” I asked. “I want to stay in bed, with you in your glorious nakedness.” He said, while his eyes were still closed. “I’m going for a jog. You can come with me or you can stay here in bed alone. It’s up to you.” I said. He groaned before he finally got up and we both got dressed and left the house. We started jogging along the inside of the treeline just joking around and messing around because he refused to take it seriously. And I started threatening to make him pay for it. He would be severely punished when he got home, and not in the good way. “Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask about that new tattoo on your back.” “What do you want to know?” I asked. “Well, I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t

CHAPTER 40

I managed to avoid Kane all day that day, because I knew that he was looking for me. And I knew that he wouldn’t pull me out of school. He already knew that I didn’t want to stick out as the Luna at school. I just wanted to be another school kid and he was going to respect that. But after lunch I went to the training field and Asher’s father Jason was already out there getting everyone ready for training. “Savannah. You’re back at training. I didn’t think you would be gracing us with your presence anymore.” Jason said. “Well, today’s a special occasion.” I said. “And what occasion is that?” He asked. “It’s the day that you get your ass kicked by a girl.” I glared at him, standing right in front of him. He laughed in my face at the thought of it. “You really think that you can take me down?” He asked. “I can practically guarantee it.” I said. “I am not fighting the Luna.” He said. “I’m not the Luna. I’m a student who needs training at school. And it looks like I hav
