She looked at me with a hint of suspicion and annoyance, narrowing her eyes and pursing her lips. I was sure she didn’t like me asking about her husband. I mean, what kind of woman would anyway?She tried to act casual and friendly, but I could tell she was lying. She shifted in her seat, crossed her legs, and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.“Oh, my husband is fine,” she said, forcing a smile. “He’s just very busy with his work and his projects. He travels a lot, you know. He’s always in different countries and cities. He’s very successful and popular.”She paused, then added, “And he loves me very much. He’s very loyal and faithful to me. He would never cheat on me or hurt me. He’s the best husband ever.”She looked at me with a smug and superior expression, as if she was trying to rub it in my face.But I knew better. I knew she was insecure and unhappy. I knew she was desperate, afraid, and jealous.I knew she was lying to herself and to me.I decided to play along with her

“Every single thing you see inside this car is for you. Why would I even be pulling your legs when you’re my princess? Come on, darling, check them all out,” he said with a wide grin. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he watched me open the car door and gasp. I was dumbfounded. How could he have done this all for me? It was too much for me to handle. It had been a while since a man actually got me gifts, I admitted.“Well, you have seen one man that will do anything to please his woman. I will always continue to shower you with gifts until you agree to marry me,” he said, taking my hand and kissing it gently. He looked at me with such devotion that I felt a pang of guilt. I wasn’t even planning to get married to this man, or to have anything serious with him. But he was getting me gifts while I was using him. I could tell that he was really into me. "You guys from this family sure know how to spoil," I joked, making him laugh. His chuckle echoed, adding a touch of warmth to the moment."Well, it's our thing," he grinned back. "Spoiling the women we really care about."I checked the time, realizing I had to leave. "Okay, I think it's time for me to go. My husband's probably looking for me." I tried waking up my sister, but she was already knocked out. I had no choice but to let David drive us home.So, this time, I led the way. My car pulled into my driveway, with David and Landry following close behind. Oddly, they didn't enter the garage. That worked out, though. It was easier for me to get my sister out of David’s car. Slowly, I guided her into the house. But before I did that, I thanked Landry."Thanks a lot for everything today. I'll keep these gifts in my car, and tomorrow, I'll move them to my house," I said. He helped me gather the presents from his car into mine. I planned to deal with them tomorrow since it was so late.

“Too bad, sister. I was already imagining you as Mrs. Landry. We don’t know what the future holds for us. Maybe, just maybe, eventually you actually will get married to him, you never can tell,” she said and I thought about it for a moment.“Hmm, there is a possibility,” I said, not really meaning it.“Let’s pack up all this money and gifts so we can go to bed. I don’t know about you but my head is hanging from all that excitement and alcohol,” I said to her and she chuckled lightly.“Of course,” she mouthed. “What are you going to tell your husband about these gifts?” She asked and I smiled eerily.“I don’t know. Till then,” I said, avoiding the question.The truth was, I didn’t care what my husband thought.Feeling a surge of joy in my chest. I stretched my arms and legs, feeling every muscle relax and every joint pop. What a night, I thought, remembering the fun I had yesterday.I got out of bed and wrapped my duvet around me like a cape. “Me,” I said, and he looked at me for a while before bursting into laughter.“You? You’ve been a housewife your whole life. What in the world do you know about management of such a very big and luxurious company like that?” he said. And I took a little bit of offense, but I didn’t let it get to me, because he obviously didn’t know.He mostly didn’t know who exactly I was and what I was capable of doing. So I smirked and told him, “I am very much capable of being a manager and I can prove it,” I said, and he chuckled lightly.“Really? How? Tell me. In fact, show me,” he said.I took in a deep breath and let it out. “First of all, I cannot show you until you’ve given me a chance. Now let’s strike a deal. I will work as a manager or personal assistant for you for just one week and watch how many sales I mount in that one week. And once I’m done with that, if you are impressed, then you’re going to raise me to the very senior manager in the entire company. And if you’re not impressed, the
