Why are you protecting her?

~Sara~ Queen Cassandra was fast asleep when Damian left with the King. Zoe and I sat next to the bed, staring at her while she slept. “She is okay, now.” I uttered, and Zoe raised her head to look at me. I could still see the worry written on her face. She let out a faint smile and nodded. “I know. Thank you, Sara.” She answered, and I nodded, also letting out a smile. “You’re welcome. I must say you’re beautiful.” I added, and I raised her brows in surprise. “Really? Thank you, Sara. You’re very beautiful too.” She answered, and I giggled. “Thank you. I believe this is the first time we’re talking since I got to the palace. I don’t see you around so much. Why?” I further asked. I wanted to start a conversation with her because I was beginning to get bored. “Well, I’ve seen you a couple of times, but we have never had the opportunity to start up a conversation until now. But I’ve noticed you’re a very sweet girl.” She answered, and my eyes widened. “Really? I’m not so sure.” I

Go to hell

~Lucian~ Finishing at the temple, I felt satisfied with the decision I made about Brandon. It was the first time I was ever going to make such a strict decision. Maybe this would make the people fear and respect me more. As I entered the palace, hoping to make my way to my chamber, I was stopped by Irene. She sat in the living room and it seemed like she was waiting for me. “You’re back.” She uttered, and I remained silent, staring at her blankly. “I’m here to tell you that I’ll be leaving the palace and the kingdom. So you don’t have to worry about me disturbing you any further.” She muttered, causing me to furrow my brows. “What do you mean?” I asked, trying to comprehend the reason behind why she wanted to leave. “I won’t be here to see what’s going to happen in this palace, Lucian. You are beginning to lose focus, and I can’t take it anymore.” She added. I scoffed and shook my head, quickly taking a glance round the palace to see if it was safe to say what I had to say. Af

I need a break

~Cassandra~ Getting into my chamber, I broke into uncontrollable tears. I still couldn’t believe I got married to the most inconsiderate man ever. How could he lie to me all this while? I couldn’t help but wonder what would have become of us if Damian hadn’t come into our life. We’d start looking for a child, and he wouldn’t even tell me he’s the one with the problem. Damian was an Angel sent to help me out. No one had to tell me that if I couldn’t convince the first or second year, the people of the kingdom were going to start spreading rumors about me being infertile. With my back turned to the door, I heard someone walk in, but I wasn’t ready to know who it was. “Cassie,” Damian called softly behind me, and I shook my head, with my back still turned to him. “Go away, Damian. I don’t want to talk to you.” I mumbled, lowering my head as more teardrops streamed down my face and dropped on my body. “I’m sorry, Cassie. I should have told you.” He muttered, and I scoffed, nodding

Are you insane?

~Sara~ After Cassie woke up and left Damian’s room, I walked out and overheard their heated conversation in Lucian’s chamber. I couldn’t eavesdrop because of the guards that stood at the door, but I heard them. Their voices were pretty loud and clear. I pretended to walk down the stairs when Queen Cassandra walked out of his chamber. Damian followed behind her, and they both entered her chamber. I walked up the stairs again and headed to Lucian’s chamber. I knew it was bad timing to go in there, but I needed to be close by, especially when he was in a turmoil of emotions. The door was slightly opened, and right from where I stood in front of the door, I could see Lucian. He stood still, with his hand glued to his cheek. “King Lucian?” I called softly, and he raised his head. And for the first time, I saw tears in his eyes. My eyes widened and I rushed into his chamber, locking my gaze on him. “King Lucian, are you alright?” I asked, and he gulped hard, cleaning the drop of tear

Who does he think he is?

~Lucian ~ The night drew near faster and faster, just like I anticipated. I wasn’t going to let Damian run away with my wife. I had all my plans mapped out, and I couldn’t wait to see the shock on his face when I showed him who had the right to make decisions in this palace. ‘Not even the Queen has the right to make such decisions.’ I thought as I made my way out of my chamber. My eyes scanned the hallway, which was void of people except the guards that watched our chambers. “Fetch me, Robert and the head of the guards.” I said to one of them, and he bowed, running down the stairs. Heading to Damian’s chamber, I knocked on his door and didn’t wait for him to respond before I opened the door and walked in. “Who is…” I cut Damian short as I found the switch and turned on the lights. My gaze fell on him laying on his bed, and Cassandra was laying next to him, sleeping. I gulped hard and clenched my fists as I stared at them. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt the warmth of

You orchestrated this

~Cassandra~ I stretched out my arms, patting the bed softly as I slowly opened my eyes. I expected to feel something… someone, lying next to me, but the space was void. The lights from the window penetrated my eyes and my vision was blurry, rendering me unable to see clearly. I groaned, covering my eyes with my arm as I tried to hide my sensitive eyes from the light. I shut my eyes tightly and opened them again, taking a peek at my side to see that Damian wasn’t there. A moan escaped my lips as I sat up. I could still feel the heaviness in my eyelids. Since I fell asleep the previous night, it was just opening my eyes. I felt so weak, and I needed that rest. I knew Damian didn’t want to disturb me and that was why he left without me noticing. Standing to my feet, I felt stronger than usual, and I made a quick stretch, accompanied by a yawn. Making my way out of his chamber, I heard a knock on his door. I got to the door already, so I just opened up, and it happened to be Zoe.

Escape or die

~Sara~ Hearing the words of the raging people outside the palace, I got out of bed and ran to my father’s room. I knew he was behind it, and I wanted to know why he had to go through that path. Getting to his chamber, I found him smirking wickedly as he stared out of the window, observing the kingdom's people. “You did it, didn’t you? This wasn’t part of the plan.” I uttered, walking closer to him. “We have plans, Sara, but when we find an opportunity, we grab it. And I must say you’re doing very well, Sara. Thank you for giving me such important information.” He retorted, still looking out of the window. “But… How did you do it?” I further asked as I wasn’t moved by his compliment. I was still surprised he did such a thing without informing me. We are supposed to be together in this. No one should take any step without informing the other. “It was easier than I thought. I never knew the people were beginning to grow hatred for the king after the truth about his brother and his

Lucian or someone else??

~Damian~ Sitting on the dirty and dusty cell floor, my nostrils were filled up with awful smells, I could hardly breathe fresh air. But this was the least of my worries. I was worried about Cassie. I kept asking myself so many questions, and I craved answers. “Is she worried about me? Will Lucian allow her to pay me a visit? Is she and the baby okay?” Heaving a deep sigh, I inhaled a bountiful amount of foul smell, causing me to sneeze heavily. I shook my head weakly and shut my eyes. Lucian had lost it already, and I didn’t even know what to do next. While my eyes were shut, my ears picked up the sounds of footsteps approaching. The footsteps sounded familiar, though I wasn’t exactly sure who it was. I sprang to my feet and moved closer to the cell gates, anxiously waiting for whosoever it was to show up. All of a sudden, I heard a voice call my name. “Damian?” It was Sara’s voice. And before I could reply, she found my cell and our eyes met. “Sara? What are you doing down h

Darkness

~Cassandra~ I headed to Lucian’s chamber with so many thoughts running through my head. How were we supposed to handle the situation on ground? I knew Lucian wasn’t his best self, but I still needed to talk to him about Damian too. I hated that Damian was locked up in a cell for no reason. Getting to his chamber, I walked in and met him pacing at the cover of his study. “Lucian,” I called, but he ignored me and kept pacing. I heaved a sigh and moved closer to him. “Can you stop pacing? You’re making me dizzy.” I retorted, causing him to abruptly stop. “What do you want?” He asked in a cold manner, keeping his gaze off me. “What are we going to do now? I don’t understand what has come over these people anymore. Are we not going to do something?” I asked worriedly, and he scoffed, finally looking at me. “What do you want me to do, huh? I know you all are happy with how everything is going. You don’t have to pretend like you are worried.” He responded and continued his pacing aga

Alive or dead

~Lucian~ “We want another king! Give us another king!” The persistent voices of the people pierced the door of the hall where they were, hitting my earbuds mercilessly. Shaking off the fear that began to rise in me, I occupied my mind with the words that I had planned to say to them. I kept repeating the words in my head as I walked into the hall. The voices of the people multiplied greatly when they saw me, and it seemed like if I wasn’t very careful, they were going to pounce on me. Even though guards surrounded me, it didn’t seem like enough protection. I raised my hand, hoping to see if they still had little regard for me, and I wasn’t disappointed. The roaring and murmurings stopped instantly. “Thank you,” I uttered in a loud voice before I proceeded to what exactly I wanted to say. “Good evening, people of this kingdom! Your complaints have reached my ears, and I think it’s only fair that you let me share my own side of the story too, don’t you think?” I asked, and I got a
