Chapter 11

“Dr. Rivera,” a paramedic called as she was walking by the reception. She halted and turned to her right. She looked at them bringing in a patient on the stretcher. “Knee aneurysm, emergency.” The paramedics said hurriedly. (Aneurysm: A ballooning and weakened area in an artery.Aneurysms often occur in the aorta, brain, back of the knee, intestine, or spleen. A ruptured aneurysm can result in internal bleeding and stroke. It can sometimes be fatal.)“Okay. Okay, I’ll go with the patient and Janice, inform Dr. Vittori asap.” She said to the nurse who was standing by the side as they took the patient to the intensive care unit. She looked at the nurse through her peripheral vision to see her still rooted to her spot. “Janice, Dr. Vittori, now!” Ayra yelled and the nurse ran to inform Dimitri. “What’s the da

“Do you really not like chocolates?” She asked him in disbelief. “Nope,” He said and shook his head.“Who doesn’t like chocolates, everyone loves…” but she was cut midway when her phone started buzzing. She picked it up instantly after flashing a glance at the caller ID. “Dr. Rivera, I need you to come to my office,” he said over the line. “Okay,” and she was about to open her mouth, but he hung up.“I’m sorry Jordan, we can continue this maybe after work?” She asked him sorrowfully.“Sure, duty calls,” He passes her a smile and she stood up and made her way to the elevator. She had come to realize a few things about Dimitri and one of them was, no matter how much you are tired, starving, or dying, patients are your priority. And she did like that about him. He was extremely dedicated and she admired that.

Chapter 13

“Why?” She asked a bit too surprised. “Jordan and Dr. Vittori were in a surgery couple of hours ago. It was a liver transplant and it was all smooth till Jordan messed it up.” She slightly shook her head and continued, “Jordan cut an artery. The patient almost died. Excessive blood loss. Now the patient is in recovery.” She completed.  “What?” Ayra asked shocked. “If it wasn’t for Dr. Vittori the patient would have died,” she said. “But still he can’t get fired. He was a resident!” She said and turned around and marched inside the hospital.  “Ayra, where are you going?” Rhea yelled. “To the person who fired Jordan,” she said loud enough for her to hear. “Ayra listen….” She could never complete her sentence as Ayra marched inside before she could. She took the steps and not the elevator. She ran up the stairs, even skipping a few. Without thinking much, she pushed the door open and barged into his office. She h

A frown appeared on her forehead looking at the person in front of her.“So you have a tumor in your kidney?” She asked him confused and he bobbed his head up and down.“What makes you think that?” She questioned him again not quite understanding what was happening.“Symptoms,” He answered without hesitation.“And how do you know what are those Symptoms?”“I was feeling things or rather my body was feeling things so I googled it,” He said whilst clicking his tongue.“Your body was feeling things?” She asked again in shock and disbelief. He nodded again.“You know Google isn’t the best place when it comes to your health and symptoms, right?” She tried to knock some sense into his brain.“How can you say that? Google has answers for everything! It can never be wrong. It just can’t!” Her patient almost yelled at her, raising

Was she sure about this? Hell no! But she didn’t want to stay here any longer. She took a deep breath and didn’t dare to look down. It was now or never! She fisted her hands tightly around the white sheet and turned around. “You can do it!” She assured herself. She slowly let one of her legs down and let it dangle in the air while mustering up all the courage, she did the same with the other. She bit down on her lower lip harshly, drawing out blood, to muffle her yelp. Slowly and steadily she moved down holding onto the sheet. What could possibly go wrong? She could slip and break her arms and legs or worse, hit her head possibly hemorrhage, and she can die. That’s it nothing more. But she was done living here. Her happiness increase ten folds when she saw how close she was to the ground. Tears of happiness spilled out of her eyes. When there was an arm’s distance between her feet and the ground, she jumped down. She looked up at the window one last time, reminiscing how man

Dimitri looked at her vitals. Almost everything was low. Extremely low.“What happened? I heard she fainted during the surgery?” Dr. Manor asked him. He just nodded clenching his jaw harshly.“I asked her to do the suturing and the next thing I know, all of the instruments on the ground and a loud thud, with all the nurses, screaming.” He closed Ayra’s file and looked at Dr. Manor.“What is it?” She asked him.“Hypotension,” he said grinding his teeth together.(Hypotension- Low blood pressure, which can cause fainting or dizziness because the brain doesn’t receive enough blood.)“We have started with Fludrocortisone, hopefully, that will be enough and she’ll be up soon,” he said glaring at Ayra’s frail body which was laying on the hospital bed, motionless.“She’ll be fine,” Dr. Manor assured him

Her eyes fluttered open only to welcome a white ceiling. Groaning, she got up to a sitting position. She hissed in slight pain when she moved her right hand. She looked down to see a needle attached to the back of her palm. She snapped her eyes instantly to what they were giving her.She got off the bed and took the bottle of liquid attached to the tube that connected with her hand and read it.“Fludrocortisone,” she furrowed her brows.“First-line treatment for…”“Hypotension,” someone cut her and completed her sentence. She slowly turned around to see Dimitri standing by the door with his arms crossed against his chest.Surprisingly, she didn’t cower away nor did she avert her gaze from him. He moved to her, sliding his hands into his pockets gracefully.“You lost your consciousness due to hypotension,” he breathed out.“oh…” was the only thing Ayra mana

“Are you sure?” He asked her once again and she nodded her head vigorously, so he’d just leave her alone.“Just call me if you need anything, okay?” He told her softly while stroking her cheeks with the back of his hand.“Yes,” she said softly but she was a bit annoyed. He got up from the bed and walked towards the door and stopped. He turned to her one last time and muttered, “Good night.”“Night,” she said with a soft smile gracing her lips looking at his deep blue eyes filled with concern for her. He nodded and walked out closing the door behind him softly. She sighed and rested her head on the pillow. She made herself comfortable on the soft and comfy mattress and bought the duvet closer to her chin and rested in its warmth. She closed her eyes only for sleep to invade her. A couple of hours ago,Ayra took her bag and put all of her medicines ins
