“Good morning, Ma’am,” someone said making her jump in surprise. She looked to her left to see the security guard. He greeted her when he noticed her hesitation to enter inside. She nodded while forcing a smile. She entered the hospital nervously. She was afraid. She hadn’t been to a place like this before. Her low-heeled shoes clanked against the marble floor. She stood in the middle and turned her head around in all directions to take note of her surroundings. It was noisy yet classy. She could see people rushing in and out. Nurses holding files while many receptionists answered calls which just didn’t seem to stop. She walked in hesitantly thinking her decision through. No matter how nervous she might be, she had to do it. After all, it was her career. She chose to save people’s lives.Inhaling deeply, she walked over to the reception with newfound confidence. He was walking ahead when he felt something touch his back. He stopped instantly to turn around and see. He saw the new girl, the intern, on the ground. He looked at her and rolled his eyes. He had already wasted a lot of time, explaining to them about the hospital and how it worked, and here she was, trying to find more ways to waste his time. “Miss. Rivera, I don’t like it when people don’t use the two eyes they have. Now get up and follow me!” He barked at her making her flinch. He looked at his wristwatch and knew he was fifteen minutes late. He had a lot of patients to attend and she wasn’t making it any easier. He turned around and began walking without sparing her a single glance. She got up to her feet and began running behind him. Chapter 3

“As long as I’m your boss, you are only going to do suction!” He barked at her with rage evident in his eyes. She looked at him as tears welled up in her eyes and threatened to spill out. She gritted her teeth but didn’t say anything. Despite her efforts to hold in, tears rained down her cheeks. There was a moment of silence before he turned from her and focused on the patient in front of him. Taking the scalpel, he made an incision between the 10th and 11th rib. She was still glaring at him while tears rolled down uncontrollably. She was holding the suction tube in one of her hands while she gave him a disgusted look.5 days, 12 surgeries, and still suction. Ayra was sick and tired of standing in the surgery room still doing nothing but holding the suction tube. Today she tried to voice out her opinion and ask if she could assist him in the surgery but he barked at her.Nobody in the room spoke but just stared at Ayra and Dimitri simultaneously. Dimitri was a calm man when he was

Chapter 4

Her muffled sob echoed throughout the large cabin. She looked outside the glass window that covered one side of the building. It was dark and the sky wasn’t that clear. More tears rushed down her cheeks as her eyes accidentally fell on the clock. It was 11 PM and she didn’t know how she was going to get home. There were definitely people in the hospital as so many people needed care and duty doctors for emergencies but her shift was over hours ago. She wasn’t going to find a bus home as she lived far from her workplace. She looked down at the pile of papers in front of her. It was less compared to what she saw a few hours ago but still more. Sighing in defeat, she kept on arranging them. She told herself not to look at the clock but she was a human after all. She would steal occasional glances at the clock. She just wanted to go home but couldn't.Putting the last set of reports in the file, she smiled at her work in content. It had been so long that she actually looked up at the clo

His brows scrunched up in confusion when he looked at her pale face. She was trying to jump out in just a fraction of a second, but now tears had welled up in her eyes.“Hey,” he called out and placed a hand on her shoulder but she didn’t even flinch. She just sat frozen.“Are you okay?” He asked her but got no response from her. Sighing in defeat, he turned around and looked ahead of him. He didn’t want to push her. He knew better than that.He gripped the steering wheel and clenched his jaw. He pressed on the start and stop button and the engine roared to life. He looked at Ayra once again but said nothing. He wanted to ask her what happened but he came to the conclusion that she might not be interested in sharing it with him. Specifically him.Silence engulfed the car as he drove quietly in the rain. The silence was bugging him but he chose to ignore it. He wanted to turn the music player on to reduce the silence but didn’t want to ignore what just happened to Ayra a few minutes ag

“I see you’re up,” the familiar manly voice hit her ears and saw Dimitri leaning on the door frame while eating peanut butter right from the container through the mirror. She looked at him through the mirror before turning her face to him. She was completely startled to see him.A blush crept into her face when she noticed he was shirtless wearing nothing but his black joggers. His body glistened with sweat and his hair was partially damp. Her eyes assess how he licked the peanut butter off his finger. Her eyes traced his broad shoulder and muscular biceps. She noticed his chest rise up and down and his 6 packs were all any girl could ever dream of.A smirk formed on his face looking at her blush. Licking his finger, he walked closer to her while he closed the jar and tossed it on her bed.She was quick on her feet and started moving back as soon as he approached her. She sighed before fetching out the keys from her bag. She thought for a while before entering if she was doing the right thing but shaking her slightly, she inserted the keys in the keyhole and turned it to her left, twice. The door unlocked and she looked down and pulled the keys out before pushing the door open. As soon as she pushed the door open a large fist collided with her angelic face and she stumbled back and hit her face to the door frame due to the sudden impact.Heavy liquid seeped down from her inner cheek and drew a metallic taste in her mouth. She coughed out harshly, drawing blood out of her mouth. She whimpered in pain and looked up to see the man she despised standing in front of her, his jaw clenched and palms fisted.Something ran down her nose and she was sure it was the same liquid she just coughed out. She inched he

Chapter 9

She took the brush and concealer and tried to hide her bruises. Pumping the concealer on the brush, she brought it closer to her face. She looked at her reflection in the mirror. She was tired of covering up the bruises on her body and face. She breathed out audibly and dropped the brush back on the dressing table. She was done with covering up. How much will she? After all, there comes a time when it all seems useless and that’s what she felt. It was useless. She walked to her bed and collected all of the things that lay scattered on the bed and put them in her bag. She pulled the zipper close and wore her backpack. She bent down and slid into her worn-out Grey sneakers and laced them up.She looked at her face, which was swollen at one side and a purplish-black bruise adorned the valley between her cheek and forehead. She walked out of her room not bothering about her face because they would only remind her of the pain she was trying to ignore.“Ayra, I’ve made your favorite, bac

Chapter 10

“Apply this, it will reduce the pain,” Dimitri said as he handed her an ointment for her lip. She accepted it from him and looked at the box of the ointment and looked up at Dimitri. He looked right into her eyes. She was just blank. She looked at him emotionless. Her eyes looked sad and almost dead.“Is it still hurting?” He asked leaning down.“No. Thanks... for all of this,” she said meekly and got up from his soft leather office chair. Her arms slightly brushed with Dimitri’s thigh, making him close his eyes and breathe heavily. He made Ayra sit on his chair while he partially sat on the table to clean her untreated wounds. He was a little surprised that she herself didn’t treat her wounds but he did it nonetheless. “You can take the rest of the day off,” He said a little loudly and hurriedly. She stopped Turing the knob and thought for a second or two.
