CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Dolph was surely not one of the nicest people Riley had ever and would ever meet, even on their way to the elevator, he kept on taunting her. “It’s a damn elevator, everyone knows how to use an elevator. And you’re a fucking human.” He said. She remained silent, wondering how she would tell him that she never had the luxury he had her entire life. He was smiling as he mocked her so it gave her the insight that he didn’t mean all what he was saying, she didn’t take any of what he said to heart. They got into the elevator and he left her after setting her down for the ground floor. “It’s advisable if you do not speak to anyone else on the way, just for your safety.” He said and she smiled and nodded. “Thank you, beta Dolph.” She said, Why was she smiling even after I had mocked her? He wondered and squinted at her as the doors closed. “Well, she’s strange as hell.” He concluded and walked back into the office. The rest of Riley’s day ran pretty smoothly, Lucas didn’t bother her mu

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Reluctantly, Lucas and Dolph left the two women alone and went to his study, Brenda’s cold, unfeeling eyes never left Riley. Riley felt beads of perspiration forming on her forehead and sweat running in a beeline down her thin back, something was menacing about Lucas’s fiancé’s presence. “Come closer,” Brenda said sharply and Riley moved towards her obediently. Brenda sat down on a couch and left Riley standing, “Lucas tells me he found you in a forest and now you’re his maid, I guess life has given you a huge promotion. From a mere lowlife to the Lycan King’s maid.” She said slowly. Riley was determined to ignore whatever hurtful things she had to say, her day had been perfect up to this point and she wasn’t going to let a few words ruin it. But Brenda had more than just a few soft words, her words were sharp and venomous and could pierce easily through any feeble-hearted person. “I guess so,” Riley replied. “I never said you could speak,” Brenda snapped and Riley looked at he

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

When Dolph walked out of the office, he stormed into Brenda and she had a wicked frown on her face. Dolph stared at her for a while, then forced a smile, “How’d your meeting go?” “Perfect.” She replied curtly then jerked a thumb towards the door of the study. “He’s in there, right?”He nodded and she walked past him. Dolph wondered how in the blue hell did Lucas have so much love towards a lady as cruel as Brenda. He shrugged, “Love is blind, blind is stupid.” He said and walked out of the house.“Now where could she have gone?” He asked, referring to no one in particular as he walked out of the front door. He met the two hefty guards there and they bowed to him, “Have you seen the girl? The new maid here.”They grunted, “She was here for a while, then she went around the back. Lost sight of her.” One replied.“Tell the chauffeur to have the limo around the front in five minutes,” Dolph said and walked away.Went around the back? Dolph thought as he rushed towards the back of the bea

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

“Can I smoke with you?” Brenda asked as she sat down on a chair. Through a heavy cloud of smoke, Lucas stared at her impassively and pushed his cigarette pack and lighter to her. “Help yourself.” He said flatly. She frowned, “You usually light it for me, Lucas.” She said and pouted like a little spoiled brat. That was what Brenda had been raised as, a little spoiled brat who was used to getting everything she wanted and she had grown up with that mentality. She believed that as long as she asked for it and as long as what she asked for existed, she could always get it. “Light it yourself this time, Brenda.” He said, his tone flustering her. “You need to learn to be independent sometimes.” She scoffed, “Independent? Why suddenly decide to be independent when I have countless maids under me I could always order to do whatever I want? Stop talking like a commoner, Lucas, or have you suddenly become an ordinary werewolf overnight?” She asked, her eyes squinting at him and watchin

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Riley’s stay at the Shadow pack was turning out to be a very interesting one. It would have been perfect if she didn’t feel the way she felt towards Lucas. Most nights, before she slept all she thought about was the tingling wave that had swept over her body the first time they met. She still thought about Shawn and wondered what had become of him. It was unlikely that he was dead, Shawn was a survivor and he was probably having a good time now despite the crumbling of his pack. That particular night, she could never forget it, she had been too close to death and there was no other feeling that could be compared to the fear she felt. Had Lucas been two seconds late, she would have been dead by now. She owed Lucas her life and she tried her best to please him and all seemed to be going fine, except when they got close. Then there was that spark, a spark that made her dream and see something like a future with Lucas but she brushed it off each time.“I'm not in his class, we can never

CHAPTER TWENTY SIX

Riley saw very little of Brenda for the next day and she was grateful to the moon goddess for keeping her away. But that luck ran out on the day before the feast, Riley was excited about the feast. Although she wouldn’t be going with Lucas, she would still be close to him one way or the other. This particular day, Brenda walked into the pack house that day with a frown on her face, she was in a very foul mood and was ready to offload the anger she felt on anyone's insight, but that was of course except Lucas. The guards at the front door were a little too sluggish and delayed in moving aside for her to pass. That infuriated her completely and she lashed at one of the stone-faced guards, “You brainless chunk of flesh! You’d better learn to move aside quickly the next time I am about to enter, don’t get on my bad side so quickly, you fools!” She snarled querulously. The guards exchanged angry and baffled glances when she walked into the house and the one she had slapped rubbed his

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

It was D-Day! On the day of the feast Riley was nervous. Riley woke up with a very bright smile on her face despite her nervousness, the rays of the sun danced on her eyelids as she parted them open. On her bed, she stretched like a lazy cat and slowly crawled off the bed. “Oh my gosh, imagine being surrounded by illustrious werewolves from all the packs!” She exclaimed to herself. “That’s crazy, my life certainly is a whirlwind of adventure.”She checked the time, it was a little after eight. She had twenty minutes to pick up Lucas’s breakfast from the kitchen and take it to his study. That made her remember the event of the previous day, Brenda had a temper and Riley didn’t appreciate her taking it out on her. The slap was uncalled for, Brenda didn't have to display the brutality her anger carried in such a manner. She was just a spoiled bitch, Riley concluded, that had to be it. She was the kind of girl that got whatever she wanted and if someone else had it, she didn’t think tw

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

“Bloody blue hell! You look astonishing!” He didn’t say it to her, he said it to himself, in his head. Riley looked stunning and for the first time he got to see her true figure in a beautiful gown and it was something more than impressive. He hid a grin, Lucas would certainly be in for a tough time tonight. He would have to keep his eyes on Brenda because she was his date, but Dolph was sure Lucas would find a way to steal glances at his maid. Dolph himself looked dashing in an excellent three-piece suit tailored just for him, he wasn’t a man of flattery so he recovered from his initial surprise and kept his face impassive. “A forest girl in a nice evening dress, it doesn’t fit.” He said flatly. The smile on her face when she had caught him gaping at her disappeared immediately, “Really? That’s all?” She blurted out and quickly closed a palm over her mouth. She didn’t want to voice her feelings of disappointment towards his words but it flew out of her mouth uncontrollably. He nod

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Riley felt like it was all her fault, she had worn the wrong gown, it was all her fault. No one said anything for a long uncomfortable moment and that made a sinking feeling engulf Riley. Although she regaled in the dejected look of shock on Brenda’s face, she still felt like she had to do something. “I’m sorry, it was my fault, I should never have worn this. I’m so sorry, I will go and change into something else, any of my casual clothes.” She said and all eyes fell on her except Lucas who was still facing forward. Dolph’s look was scolding her, saying she should have said nothing while Brenda just glared at her with a blazing fury and dangerous hatred. Riley bowed to all of them and turned to walk out when Lucas grabbed her wrist easily, his grip was so strong, she couldn’t even think of wriggling free. Riley thought Brenda couldn’t get angrier but when she saw Lucas’s hand on hers, Brenda’s face contorted even more and she lost all her beauty. “No, I’m sick of this, Brenda,” Lu

CHAPTER THIRTY

Riley didn’t feel much like the terrible dancer she was because Dolph was such a good dancer. What she didn’t understand is how he managed to move both of them in one fluid motion but still managed to keep a distance. Unlike every other couple in the room, her breasts didn’t push against his chest, her head didn’t rest on him either. The grip he had on her waist was like a feather’s touch and that made Riley have a lot of respect for him. Lucas found it difficult to concentrate on the dance because he kept stealing glances at Riley and Dolph, he even missed a few steps from time to time but didn’t make Brenda notice it. Brenda was stiff in his arms, she was pissed at him and would be for quite some time but Lucas didn’t mind. She had to learn good manners if she wanted to go far in his pack. The music stopped, the dance was over and at the same time, Riley and Dolph released sighs of relief. “Finally, the horror show is over,” Dolph remarked and looked around. “You’re a terrible da
