CHAPTER ELEVEN

It was a bright morning, with the sun just rising over the horizon. The palace courtyard was bustling with activity as gardeners tended to their plants and maids went about their duties. Guards stood in various positions around the palace, their stoic expressions resembling gargoyles frozen in place. A convoy of five cars drove in, stopping in front of the castle building in a line. The arrival of the cars hinted at the presence of someone of high status or power, possibly someone related to the royal family. Several men dressed in blue overalls emerged from the cars. While they appeared to be guards, their attire differed from that of the royal guards who wore black. Two of the guards approached the fourth car and opened the door. A girl with blonde hair stepped out, glaring at the guards. "What took you so long to open the door, you fools?!" she exclaimed, casting a disdainful gaze at each of them. "Sorry, Princess," one of the guards apologized, and they all bowed their heads, a

CHAPTER TWELVE

"Work!" A military guard bellowed, cracking his whip at a vampire who was bound in garlic-dipped chains, laboring to carry stones. The vampire grunted and stumbled, dropping the stone from his blood-soaked hands. His back bore fresh wounds and scars, a testament to the brutal treatment endured not only by him, but by the other imprisoned vampires who languished in this hellish place. Confined within a massive cage, spacious enough to accommodate the ninety vampires held captive, they were kept isolated from the rest of the world. Outside the cage, armed military guards patrolled diligently, with a watchtower standing just a mile away. These vampires had been captured and enslaved, subjected to backbreaking labor and some even forced into involuntary experimentation against their will. "Get up and pick that up," the guard ordered, delivering a brutal kick to the vampire's abdomen, causing him to cough up blood. Despite the bloodlust in the vampire's eyes, he was too weak and malnou

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Avery alighted the cab after making her payment. She was standing right before her house and was quite nervous as she wondered what her father must have been doing.“Hi, Avery Anderson.” A chubby dark lady greeted her while walking her golden retriever. She had a broad smile on her face.“Hi.” She mumbled as she glanced at the lady. “Uh, have you seen my Dad?” She asked.“No.” The woman replied. “By the way, how is he doing?” She asked but before Avery could reply, a boy on a skateboard bumped into the woman.“What the…?” The woman said as she was knocked to the ground while the boy took off. “Come back here right now, you piece of shit!” She cursed, walking off with her dog in anger.Without wasting much time, Avery hastened her steps toward the front porch, and twisting the doorknob, the door gave way for her. It was silent and the house was just the way she had left it, three days ago.“Dad?” She called lightly at first but no one replied. She flung her handbag to the side as she da

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Miss?” The police chief’s voice rang in her head, disrupting her thoughts. Avery shook her head, dismissing any thoughts of revealing her kidnap. She couldn’t believe she was already having thoughts of revealing the identity of someone who did nothing against her. Although she was upset that she was taken against her wishes, Avery knew better than to tread recklessly. She had no idea what the stranger was capable of and seeing that the mercenaries seemed to be working for him, who could say he probably did not have an army of trained vampires, working for him as well. One thing she was certain of, was the fact that he was a dangerous man and that the government was going to have a hard time finding him. Although, she could tell them who he was and give out a description of him, how certain was she that both she and her father would be safe and protected? “Huh?” She said at first, with a confused look on her face. “Uh, sorry, I wanted to thank you again. Thank you.” She said with a

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Running around with an apron around her waist, Avery rushed to grab a curry from the base cabinet as she could smell her lump of cooking meat burning. The kitchen was smoking and she had to put off the cooker and dropped the pot close to the sink while she covered her mouth and began to cough. A look of disappointment was displayed on her face, as she stared at her meat, all burnt up. Had she not given in to her worries and thoughts, she would have noticed the burning meat earlier and would have maybe done something to stop it from getting worse. She took a step back and was standing before the door as her eyes scanned the messy kitchen. She sighed disappointedly, as she walked toward the counter and placed her head on it while staring at the pot at the sink. Beads of sweat broke out on her forehead and after some minutes, she chuckled to herself. She could picture herself in her head, running helter-skelter around the kitchen, all because of a pot and cooking meat and she burst in

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

It was bright and the birds were chirping happily. Avery woke up feeling tired as she had slept late last night. Her eyes snapped back shut as soon as it had opened. It suddenly felt too bright and her eyes had begun to hurt. Shielding them to avoid the bright sunlight, Avery threw the blanket from her and walked toward the window, closing the blinds. She slowly opened her teary eyes and walking back to bed, she suddenly stopped. “What—” her eyes widened as she stared at the clock at the top of the wall. It was already 8 o’clock and she was yet to prepare for work. She quickly grabbed a towel and dashed for the bathroom. It took her thirty minutes to prepare and she was fully dressed. She was soon running down the stairs, ignoring its creaking floorboards. She was going to get it fixed very soon, as she had remembered breaking one of the floorboards while running. She could see her father eating a box of cereal for breakfast. “Where are you going?” he asked and she rushed to give h

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

“I hope there is nothing wrong, Miss Avery?” Her manager asked with a slight frown on his face, as he thought maybe Avery did not appreciate his kind gesture. Avery stared at the letter in her hand and back at the manager in disbelief. She couldn’t believe that she was given a raise and was about to lose it, because of her quick judgment. “Is this really for me?” She asked still in shock at what she had just heard. Mr. Brook gave her an assuring smile. “Yes.” He simply replied to her question and she smiled back at him. “Keep up the good work. You may leave, I would love to be left alone.” He said, dismissing her. “Thanks, Mr. Brooke,” Avery said to him. She felt like a burden had been lifted off her shoulder. She couldn’t believe her hard work paid off. Thanking him once again, she stepped out of the office and toward the counter. Jeffery walked toward her while trying to speak in a hushed tone. “What happened? Did he fire you?” He asked but Avery did not reply but lifted the pa

CHAPTER NINETEEN

The members of the vampire councils, sat around a table as they stared at the mounted television screen, displaying the news. They watched keenly as the corpses and destroyed military structures came into view. Some of them had a look of displeasure on their faces as they heard what the reporter said while some like Lord Ericson, just stared nonchalantly, but deep down, they were equally furious. Soon, the news ended and the hall went quiet, with all the council members, staring at Lord Ericson, who seemed to be deep in thought. “This,” one of them, a female began. “This is bullshit! What does the human race think of us? We are not dogs!” She yelled as she banged her fist on the table so hard that it shook and even the castle seemed to vibrate from her sheer power. The only reason the table didn’t collapse was because it wasn’t made out of wood but a special type of rock. “Calm down lady Mira.” A male spoke as he glanced at her and then at the spot she had banged with her fist. He

CHAPTER TWENTY

Avery and Jeffrey sat down alone at the fireplace, as the woods burned slowly. The room was dark due to the power outage and the crackling fire, provided them light. They both sat on the couch as they watched it burn as it slowly began to consume the woods.“You have eaten,” Jeffrey said amidst the silence as he munched on a slice of pizza from its box and stared at Avery, who glanced at him before staring at the crackling fire. “Is anything wrong?” He asked with a worried look on his face.“No,” Avery said and sighed as she kept her eyes glued to the flames. “I’m ok, just that I can’t help but wonder what happened at the military base. We all saw the news.” She said as from the flames, she could see Damien smirking at her and she closed her eyes almost immediately.Jeffery stared at the burning woods and sighed. “Yeah, I saw it too. Sucks to be them.” He muttered before he stared at Avery. “But we don’t know them…”“They have families, Jeffery. They have families and the vampires
