Running around with an apron around her waist, Avery rushed to grab a curry from the base cabinet as she could smell her lump of cooking meat burning. The kitchen was smoking and she had to put off the cooker and dropped the pot close to the sink while she covered her mouth and began to cough.

A look of disappointment was displayed on her face, as she stared at her meat, all burnt up. Had she not given in to her worries and thoughts, she would have noticed the burning meat earlier and would have maybe done something to stop it from getting worse.

She took a step back and was standing before the door as her eyes scanned the messy kitchen. She sighed disappointedly, as she walked toward the counter and placed her head on it while staring at the pot at the sink. Beads of sweat broke out on her forehead and after some minutes, she chuckled to herself.

She could picture herself in her head, running helter-skelter around the kitchen, all because of a pot and cooking meat and she burst in

It was bright and the birds were chirping happily. Avery woke up feeling tired as she had slept late last night. Her eyes snapped back shut as soon as it had opened. It suddenly felt too bright and her eyes had begun to hurt. Shielding them to avoid the bright sunlight, Avery threw the blanket from her and walked toward the window, closing the blinds. She slowly opened her teary eyes and walking back to bed, she suddenly stopped. “What—” her eyes widened as she stared at the clock at the top of the wall. It was already 8 o’clock and she was yet to prepare for work. She quickly grabbed a towel and dashed for the bathroom. It took her thirty minutes to prepare and she was fully dressed. She was soon running down the stairs, ignoring its creaking floorboards. She was going to get it fixed very soon, as she had remembered breaking one of the floorboards while running. She could see her father eating a box of cereal for breakfast. “Where are you going?” he asked and she rushed to give h

“I hope there is nothing wrong, Miss Avery?” Her manager asked with a slight frown on his face, as he thought maybe Avery did not appreciate his kind gesture. Avery stared at the letter in her hand and back at the manager in disbelief. She couldn’t believe that she was given a raise and was about to lose it, because of her quick judgment. “Is this really for me?” She asked still in shock at what she had just heard. Mr. Brook gave her an assuring smile. “Yes.” He simply replied to her question and she smiled back at him. “Keep up the good work. You may leave, I would love to be left alone.” He said, dismissing her. “Thanks, Mr. Brooke,” Avery said to him. She felt like a burden had been lifted off her shoulder. She couldn’t believe her hard work paid off. Thanking him once again, she stepped out of the office and toward the counter. Jeffery walked toward her while trying to speak in a hushed tone. “What happened? Did he fire you?” He asked but Avery did not reply but lifted the pa

The members of the vampire councils, sat around a table as they stared at the mounted television screen, displaying the news. They watched keenly as the corpses and destroyed military structures came into view. Some of them had a look of displeasure on their faces as they heard what the reporter said while some like Lord Ericson, just stared nonchalantly, but deep down, they were equally furious. Soon, the news ended and the hall went quiet, with all the council members, staring at Lord Ericson, who seemed to be deep in thought. “This,” one of them, a female began. “This is bullshit! What does the human race think of us? We are not dogs!” She yelled as she banged her fist on the table so hard that it shook and even the castle seemed to vibrate from her sheer power. The only reason the table didn’t collapse was because it wasn’t made out of wood but a special type of rock. “Calm down lady Mira.” A male spoke as he glanced at her and then at the spot she had banged with her fist. Avery and Jeffrey sat down alone at the fireplace, as the woods burned slowly. The room was dark due to the power outage and the crackling fire, provided them light. They both sat on the couch as they watched it burn as it slowly began to consume the woods.“You have eaten,” Jeffrey said amidst the silence as he munched on a slice of pizza from its box and stared at Avery, who glanced at him before staring at the crackling fire. “Is anything wrong?” He asked with a worried look on his face.“No,” Avery said and sighed as she kept her eyes glued to the flames. “I’m ok, just that I can’t help but wonder what happened at the military base. We all saw the news.” She said as from the flames, she could see Damien smirking at her and she closed her eyes almost immediately.Jeffery stared at the burning woods and sighed. “Yeah, I saw it too. “Miss Avery,” Damien said as he stared at her. He neither looked impressed nor displeased, so it was hard for Avery to know what he was feeling or thinking. He was the kind of man she always wished for but may never have. She gulped as she gazed at him. He was simply too perfect and any woman would fall head over heels for him. She could feel her heart racing even faster and it was not in fear but excitement. She frowned hard to conceal her excitement and feigned annoyance. “Get on with it.” She said and turned to glance at him. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.” She apologized, afraid that she might have upset him with her outburst.“Apology accepted though I would like to know one thing from you.” He said and glanced at her. He examined her face and smiled as he noticed the worry written all over her. “I’m not going to hurt you. I just want to know what you are.” He said and Avery stared at him, confused by the question. She didn’t expect such a question from him and was th

Avery mustered her confidence and looked directly into his eyes as she uttered the words, "Be my lover." In that moment, she couldn't help but wonder where her sudden surge of self-assurance came from. She almost doubted whether she herself had spoken those words, but the reality of her bold statement hung in the air.The rogue vampire before her was taken aback, unable to find words to respond. He simply couldn't believe what he had just heard. He had expected her to ask for luxurious outings or expensive gifts, not a direct request for a romantic connection. He chuckled, studying her with intrigue, before reclining in his seat and peering straight ahead."Why on earth would you think I would agree to such a ludicrous proposition?" he asked, chuckling once again, clearly amused by the situation.Avery's brows furrowed with concern, fearing she may have crossed a line or offended him in some way. His focus was fixed on the direction of the elevator, eager to reach his office. "How was your trip to Morocco, sir?" a brunette asked as she approached him. Her eyes scanned the surroundings, and a deepened frown slowly appeared on her face when she noticed the idle employees enchanted by their boss. “What are you all doing?! get back to work, this instant!" she berated at them and it seemed to work as they quickly dispersed."I can see you've been doing your job well while I was away," Prince Rohan commented with a displeased expression, which seemed to please his company's manager. He stepped into the elevator, accompanied by the lady. "To my office," he instructed without glancing at her. She made her way to her father's bedroom and found him asleep in bed. Smiling, she gazed at his face briefly before heading downstairs to the living room. As she entered, the aroma of cooking filled her senses, piquing her curiosity. She ventured into the kitchen to find Jeffery preparing breakfast. Jeffery wiped the sweat from his forehead and replied, "Since both you and your father were still asleep, I decided to prepare breakfast. Wouldn't want you to go hungry." She glanced at Avery with a look that seemed to want to know why she was with Damien. She had always hated the vampires after her father had been killed by one. Ever since then, she always saw them as bad news and threats. Only she knew that she would never trust a single one of them and if given the chance, she would have them go into extinction. Although she hated Damien for being a vampire, she controlled herself to not say horrible things to him, because of her best friend.“Can we go now?” She asked and Avery nodded with a slight smile on her face. She quickly turned around and headed toward her parked car. “Excuse me, but what is he doing?” She couldn’t help but ask as she observed Damien and realized he was following them!“About that, I invited him to my house tonight,” Avery replied, forcing Amber to t

He examined his elongated fingers, lost in thought. With a deep sigh, he reflected on his conversation with Avery. Her rejection of his offer had rendered his efforts futile. He had believed she reciprocated his feelings at the party, where she had opened up to him, leaving him convinced that she felt something for him.Alas, he had been mistaken, and it had made him appear foolish. As he drank from the bottle, he disregarded the liquid staining him and the pristine floor. Luckily, being a vampire prevented him from becoming lightheaded and acting out inappropriately. He only savored the bitter taste of the alcohol, which surprisingly wasn't unpleasant.
