Sitting down on a chair, Avery watched her father as he lay with his eyes closed on the hospital bed. He had been like this for four days, and she knew without a doubt that he had gotten worse. He had bled from his nose and fallen unconscious, and since then, he never woke.

She sighed and closed her eyes as a wave of exhaustion hit her. She hadn't slept throughout the night and only took the liberty to take a nap during the days since she had been here. Three months had passed since she last saw Damien and had avoided Rohan ever since.

She couldn't get her old job back and had to rely on her best friend for a lot of things. She had tried reaching out to Damien, but it was futile and even tried to locate any of his henchmen, praying that she might see Layla, though they both never got along.

She felt Damien never wanted to see her and wasn't joking about what he last said to her at the party. She wondered every single day what he was doing. Had he forgotten her? Was he living his best

Standing alone at the window, Rohan gazed down at the garden, a bottle of wine in one hand, his brows furrowed. He examined his elongated fingers, lost in thought. With a deep sigh, he reflected on his conversation with Avery. Her rejection of his offer had rendered his efforts futile. He had believed she reciprocated his feelings at the party, where she had opened up to him, leaving him convinced that she felt something for him.Alas, he had been mistaken, and it had made him appear foolish. As he drank from the bottle, he disregarded the liquid staining him and the pristine floor. Luckily, being a vampire prevented him from becoming lightheaded and acting out inappropriately. He only savored the bitter taste of the alcohol, which surprisingly wasn't unpleasant. It had a slightly sour flavor with a sweet aftertaste. Chuckling to himself, he questioned his sanity while fixating on the bottle."What am I doing?" he wondered aloud, shaking his head bitterly, refusing to accept that he w

“Sir?” Elizabeth was dumbfounded. She had worked tirelessly for this company, only to be on the brink of being replaced by a stranger from the streets. Tears welled up in her eyes as her heart sank.“Yes?” Rohan responded, glancing at her and observing her distress.“Have I done something wrong, sir? I’ve been working for you for four years, and now you’re about to replace me,” she reminded him, her voice cracking with emotion.Avery watched Elizabeth speak, sensing the pain in her eyes. She empathized with her, knowing how it felt to be replaced. Observing Elizabeth’s love for her job, despite knowing Rohan was a vampire, Avery felt a pang of sympathy.“I understand,” Rohan said, sighing and glancing at Avery, who shook her head.“I appreciate your offer, sir, but I don’t want it,” Avery interjected before he could continue. She didn’t want any of these. She didn’t want to give Elizabeth the impression that she was after her position and definitely didn’t want to become her enemy.
