Chapter 11

AdelaideI awake in a cold sweat. The sheets sticking to me.Bad dream.I open my eyes wondering where I am for a moment. I blink a few times before I remember… Hell, that’s where I am. I peel the sheets from me and go to the window, I try it and to my surprise, it’s unlocked. I slide it open allowing the cool night air to flood into the bedroom. The fresh air feels nice, I’ve missed the night air. It’s my favourite time, the moon shining bright above and the lack of warmth soothes my constantly warm skin.‘I want to run,’ My wolfs thoughts invade my own.‘I know, we can’t, they’ll think we’re running away.’ I want to let my wolf free, she’s been cooped up for months. ‘How about we just change in the room, I kn

Chapter 12

AdelaideI decide on jeans and a khaki floaty blouse, with the black ballet pumps. Not formal but not informal. I try to find the kitchen guessing that’s where Wade would be. I peered into the kitchen, the brilliant white of the whole room almost blinding me. I never understood when people designed their homes so it hurt our senses. They are all wolves after all.A woman is standing by the hob, “Excuse me, do you know where Wade is?” I ask her politely, she turns on the spot and instantly drops into a bow “Your Highness, I apologise I didn’t see you there. He-he’s in the conservatory, I-I can show you.” She checks on what she was cooking.“Oh. No need, I know where to go.” The woman bows again before I leave.I reach the conservatory and can see Wade thr

Chapter 13

WadeI feel like she’s hiding from me, I swear I saw the real her for a flash in that tree. I was so scared she was going to fall, I’ve never seen someone just… well leap into a tree. She’s nothing I was expecting. I remember her on obstacle courses as a child, but… maybe part of me believed she wouldn’t still be climbing. But as we walk through the wood she’s closed up again, she’s a fortress to me. I just need to find the weak points. There’s just something off. Like she doesn’t actually want to be here. But I offered for her to leave, I didn’t say she had to stay. If she wasn’t interested she’s welcome to go to other packs.Although… I feel honoured that she wants to give it a go.I brush my hand against hers as we walk. I feel the tingle tha

Chapter 14

AdelaideI look over to the door as I hear a gentle knock, “Princess,” I hear Trey so open the door. He slips inside and pulls me to him, his head in the crook of my neck. “He thinks you hate him,” he mutters against my flesh. “I do.” I stroke his ear.“He can’t know that.” I sigh, he’s right. He gently places his lips on mine in a tender kiss, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist. I sink into him involuntarily but I pull away slightly. “It’s hard to pretend to like him, I like you,” I admit. Trey suddenly pushes me away. I look at him offended, but he’s put his finger to his lips. I hear the footsteps he’s heard. He gives me a pointed look as we see the shadow of feet on the other side of the door “Princess, I know he can appear crass and ill-mannered… but please give him another chance.

Chapter 15

Adelaide I get into a routine over the next few days. Wade and I do something together. I then lock my door, transform into my wolf, and let her take over for the night. Trey’s been busy on guard duty, but at least he can look after Christopher while there.I’ve locked the door and transform, my speed is almost back, my raven furred figure ambles around the room. I can feel her frustration, her irritation. ‘I need to run,’ she whines to me on the third night.‘I’m sorry,’ is all I can muster as she sniffs the same spot in the room for the twentieth time.‘Why don’t you ask Wade?’‘Ask him what?’‘Ask him for us to go run, silly, I’m sure he won’t say no to letting you out.’

Chapter 16

AdelaideWe walk back into Wade’s house in the early hours; the sun just peeking above the trees. I have to admit I feel rejuvenated for letting my wolf run. I feel powerful, I feel a little more in control of my situation. I wonder how long I have before Samual comes back?“Wade, thank you for running with me,” I say, he smiles and moves closer to me. I want to pull away, but I want a favour from him so I allow him to lay a soft kiss on my cheek, his touch making lightning shoot through my body. ‘What was that?’ I yelp at my wolf.‘Mate,’ she responds, I swear at her. My wolf is a strong powerful wolf, now she’s behaving like a stupid pup.“Would I be able to use a phone? I want to know how my father is getting on, and I’m sure h

Chapter 17

AdelaideI stretch my legs feeling soft sheets under me. Wait… I didn’t fall asleep in a bed. I sit up looking around, I’m in a very large bed, I didn’t fall asleep on here. I hear breathing and frantically look around, there’s a figure on the sofa.Wade’s the figure, his head rests on the arm of the sofa, his breathing deep and slow in sleep. I quietly slide out of bed, but I’m safe from Samual’s wrath if I’m here, so I tiptoe into Wade’s bathroom. When I came out Wade’s stirring. His eyes fluttering open before he looks to the bed, not seeing me there he surveyed the room. His eyes soften when he notices me standing in the bathroom doorway. “Good sleep?” he asks groggily, rubbing his eyes.“Yes, thank you. You?” Samual&rsq

Chapter 18

AdelaideI begin to tremble, it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t ask Wade to lie, but I was going to pay for it. “We’re getting to know each other,” I try to reason, a pain shoots through my head, stars burst over my vision as Samual’s punched the base of my skull. “Please,” I plead as I try to get my vision back.“Your brother’s going to feel it ten times worse, see that as your tiny taste.” I turn to him suddenly. My vision swims at the sudden movement. I grab at his sleeve, “Please, no. Give me a few more days, please.” I feel bile rising in my throat and I suddenly wish I hadn’t eaten. Sweat springs over my skin, a cold sheen as I try and keep the nausea at bay.Suddenly the fabric beneath my fingers is wrenched away. Everything swims and the nausea gets worse. “Adelaide, you d

Chapter 19

AdelaideA quiet knock on my door brings me back from under the sheets, I don’t know what time it is. “Who is it?” I croak, I clear my throat.“Trey,” a whisper replies. I unlock the door, checking it is him before I let him in. He looks worried. “Dely you must have really pissed Samual off,” Trey says as he locks the door behind him. My heart speeds up and I can no longer breathe, “Is he…?” I don’t want the answer… I don’t want to know.“Del… he can’t take another beating.” Trey swims in front of me as the tears well in my eyes. I run from him into the bathroom clutching at the cold ceramic sink as I begin to hyperventilate. Air’s not going into my lungs. They burn as all I can do is breathe out tiny breaths… I ca

Chapter 20

WadeAnger heaves in my chest. She wanted me to mark her. She asked for it and then immediately backtracked? My wolf’s hackles are up, anger I can’t really control burning in my veins that is far more wolf anger than my own. “Oh, I’m sorry… I’m sorry please…” she begs, her voice full of fear, her face contorted in pain. I don’t understand. “I’m sorry don’t tell Samual… please don’t kill my brother.” She drops off the bed onto her knees her hands clasped in front of her, “Please,” she cries, her shoulders shaking, her whole body bent in a form of submission. My anger disappears as rapidly as it came, flowing from me like a plug pulled from a bath. What was she talking about? Tears stream down her face as she continues to beg, I don’t understand. I move around the bed and kneel i
