chapter 51

The next morning, all the occupants of Mr Thomas's house woke up early with heavy faces. It was worse for Jada whose face was seriously swollen from excessively crying. Lucia had tried her best to calm her mom down, and although Jada had promised to stop crying, Lucia could still hear her sniffing silently. Lucia during her call with Clara had asked for helping hands on preparing for the burial, and Clara who came back the previous night was already knocking on the gate as early as 5:30 am in the morning. Mr Thomas and Mrs Benita had a surprise up their sleeves, and this was revealed when Lucia heard a car honk almost immediately after Clara came. At first, Lucia didn't believe that a car would be at the gate at such an hour. Clara was already around, and Mrs Luan had already promised to come directly to the crematory. However, the honking persisted, and with Mrs Benita's consent, they both went to check up on the surprise visitors. Mrs Benita acted as surprised as Lucia, but l

Everything needed for the cremation ceremony, from picture, to the food, to the dress and mood was all set. Everyone left Thomas's house at once and to one destination - the crematorium. They were then led to the booked room where an officiant was already waiting for them, with the casket placed in front of the room. The officiant was the one in charge of leading the crematorium service which started at exactly 10:20am. Mrs Luan and her son were able to meet up with the service which didn't last for long. The officiant led the cremation service by first reading some scriptures which had been selected by Jada. After that followed an eulogy written by Jada and Lucia. Lucia went first to lay a supportive ground for her mom who would be the second person. Lucia's speech went like this;"Dad, my hero, my guiding light... I'm standing here today, trying to find the words to say goodbye. Your sudden departure has left me and Mom with a pain so deep, it feels like our hearts are shattered

Chapter 54

In the Palma's mansion, things never remained the same after the incident with Lisa and Mr Albert. Wilson had tried on several occasions to talk to his mom, but on each occasion, he ended up getting completely snubbed by his mom. This got really bad as Wilson stopped bothering about it. He comfortably spent the whole weekend all by himself, and didn't bother reaching out to his mom again. Mr Palma on the other hand automatically became the peace maker by trying to set up avenues through which he could get his son and wife to begin talking to themselves. “You know your son, and you know how hot headed he could be. Trying to get him to apologize has proved futile, and I'm tired of the whole situation. Can you please just forgive him this once?” Mr Palma begged his wife on a Sunday night after a heated argument between her and Wilson. “I am not forgiving anyone. Not now, not ever! How could that rude punk walk out from his mom's presence?” Mrs Lilian asked as her anger increased.

“Have you had any form of discussion with your dad about the court case?” Mrs Lilian asked, halfway through the morning breakfast. Her reconciliation with her son was a portal to ask questions which she had withheld herself from asking. “Yes mom, quite a number of times” Wilson replied, immediately returning to his meal.“Oh…that's nice,” Mrs Lilian remarked in an unsatisfied manner. She obviously wanted to be involved in everything which pertained to the discussion. “What did you all talk about?” Mrs Lilian threw question number two which was answered with a heavy sigh which screamed ‘allow me eat my food in peace’. Mr Palma understood the signal which his wife wanted to ignore, so he took it from there. “There really wasn't much to talk about. The company has been sued for quite a number of things, and by different people with different reasons. We still came forth victorious at each end. It will be settled by giving the lawyer or the victims of the event a reasonable sum of mon

“Good morning everyone, from the executives to the workers of this great company,” Mr. Palma began as soon as he stood face-to-face with all his employees. His deep voice sounded through the large hall, a quiet authority settling in the room as everyone turned their full attention toward him.“I was told by my son that the last meeting held in this way got interrupted by the police,” he continued, his gaze sweeping over the room. “Things got so chaotic that the meeting had to come to an abrupt end.”Mr. Palma paused for a moment, scanning the sea of faces in front of him. It was clear he was measuring his words carefully, ensuring the impact of his message would not be lost on anyone.“Well, you might think I came here to talk about the arrest, but you're wrong,” he said, shaking his head slowly, his eyes locking on a few individuals in the crowd. “What happened to Mr. Henry was on him, and he will bear the consequences of his actions alone. I am not here to plead with any of you to b

Chapter 57

Mrs. Lilian, who had earlier made up an excuse of being emotionally stressed, soon found herself growing restless. After spending a few minutes alone, she became bored. She had tried a couple of activities she usually found fun—reading a magazine, scrolling through her phone, even arranging her jewelry—but none of them held her interest. Nothing seemed to capture her attention or lift her mood. Her thoughts kept drifting back to the company, her son Wilson, and the unsettling news swirling around the Palma family. After pacing around for a while, she made up her mind. She would visit the company. It had been a while since she’d dropped by to see how things were going, and the thought of being around her son, despite their recent quarrels, brought her a sense of comfort.Mr. Palma, her husband, had bought her a new dress over the weekend. The move had been an attempt to woo her into talking to Wilson, but that hadn’t gone well. By the end of that day, she had ended up in an even bigger

Upon Mrs Lilian’s arrival at the company, she requested to be taken to see her husband but was notified of the meeting which was still being held. “Oh please, I'm the wife of the Chairman. I can attend any meeting of the company at any time of the day, so get out of my way” she commanded the securities at the door post. Out of fear of disrespecting the boss's wife, the security had no choice but to interrupt the meeting.“Come in” Mr Palma’s voice echoed from inside the office. This was Mrs Lilian's cue to make an entrance for herself. And so she came face to face with the executives of the company, and of course, her family. “Mom?” Wilson called out in disbelief.“What are you doing here Lilian?” Mr Palma asked his wife who replied to his question with a smile. “I'm so sorry to interrupt your meeting honey. I just felt like I should be present to know what's going on in the company. I promise, you won't know I'm here” Mrs Lilian assured her husband. “Well of course you can stay

Chapter 59

Mr Thomas and Lucia got to their destination after a train ride which lasted for about three hours. Upon getting to Mr Benson's supposed house, they found the place desolate. Their only source of help was from a neighbor who had noticed the strangers standing for a while. “Who are you, and why are you trying to look into a person's house?” asked the middle aged lady. “We're sorry if we seem suspicious. I would like to know the whereabouts of Mr Benson, the lawyer who lives here” Mr Thomas pointed out. “Lawyer?” the middle aged lady asked in confusion. Her response made it known to Mr Thomas that there was something fishy going on. “Yes. Isn't this house owned by Mr Benson?” Mr Thomas asked. “I don't know about any lawyer. I moved into this neighborhood four years ago, and I know every occupant of each resident. I don't know of any Mr Benson” the lady uttered.“Okay then. I must confess I'm quite surprised. I know I haven't seen him in a long time, but I didn't expect him to relo

“Oh goodness! I can't believe my eyes. Am I seeing things now?” Mr Benson's facial expression was a mix of surprise and happiness all together. “Not at all. It's really me, my old friend” Mr Thomas answered with a broad smile. It wasn't long after that Mr Benson quickly opened up the car and quickly went to hug Mr Thomas. Lucia witnessed a reunion right before her, but still had to observe some things about Mr Benson. Judging from the way Mr Benson walked, he seemed to have a bad leg. His car was very old and at the point where he was to come out, his car door handle proved difficult to open. She however didn't speak up, as it would be disrespectful and uncalled for. The only person who was in the right position to ask such questions was Mr Thomas. “Where do I even start? Why and how are you even here? I have so many questions that need answers. How is Mrs Benita and your son?” Mr Benson asked, jumping from one question.“One at a time Ben. We have a lot of time to discuss and ca
