Chapter 41

“What’s the need of writing it down when he already has it recorded?” Henry voiced within himself, after which he took a deep breath and continued. “There were a lot of distress calls from my fellow truck drivers who were already at the client's shop, and that divided my attention at a point in time. I'm expecting my first child anytime from now, and I didn't want to do anything which would warrant me getting fired. I didn't notice the old man on time, and when I did, it was too late. I couldn't bring myself to accept what just happened, and that was coupled with the tension on me. That was why I zoomed off. I regret that decision up till now, and I will continue to live in regret till the day I die” Henry whimpered from his cavity. All through his narration, he never looked directly at the detective and had his head bent low. “I would appreciate it if I could see your face Mr Henry. Please, look up” Shawn said authoritatively. It sounded more like an order than a plea. “For the f

Chapter 42

Mrs Lilian had just arrived at the airport, and after a couple minutes of waiting, she declared herself tired. The whole pickup plan was not in any way what she expected. Her bodyguards were pitiable as she taunted them in everything they did. “I've always tried my best to overlook your shiny bald head, but today, I just can't. Seeing it makes me angry, so it's either you grow some hair right now or you just disappear out of my face!” Mrs Lilian spat out aggressively. The poor guard was left with no option but to quickly walk away from his boss's wife for fear of the unknown. He didn't return until he made sure her mind was preoccupied. After what felt like another hour of waiting, Mr Palma's private jet finally landed. Mrs Lilian took it upon herself to recheck everything before her husband came. “Call the bald headed security man over there, and he fast about it” she ordered one of her escorts. While the other security went away, Mrs Lilian sighted her husband and rushed up to

Chapter 43

The blaring of a truck which was close to Lucia's taxi woke Lucia from her slumber. She had a drool coming out of her mouth, and the sudden realization made her clean up her mess in embarrassment. The taxi driver had been watching her from the rear mirror, and when she saw herself, she understood what the look was all about. Her whole hair was scattered due to the strong breeze coming into the car. And so, she rearranged her hair and readjusted the hem of her clothes. “We're about reaching your destination young lady” the middle aged driver voiced out. This was a signal for Lucia to be totally aware of her surroundings. Lucia had earlier been called by her bosses to meet them at home since it was already late, and as much as she went there just once, she was already familiar with the road. “I'll be stopping here Sir” Lucia puked from her cavity when she came before the gate of the couple's house. When she came before the gate, she knocked, expecting a reply. This wasn't the case

“Something of that nature Sir. Welcome back Mr Thomas, welcome back Mrs Benita, welcome back mom” Lucia said individually as she observed everyone in the car. “Thank you dear” they all replied, after which she was handed the key to the padlock which was being used for the gate. When they all got into the compound, Mr Thomas made inquiries about Lucia's new friend. “She lives opposite us Sir. I couldn't bring her to you guys just let as I thought it wouldn't be a good idea” Lucia puked from her cavity. “Oh nonsense! As long as she's your friend, and will not bring harm to anyone in this house, she's free anytime and any day to come visit” Mr Thomas whimpered from his vocals as he found his way into the house. “We have a lot to discuss, but that will be when we all have eaten dinner. I got some food items from the market, so we'll be having a fresh meal tonight. That's why we need to get to work as soon as possible” Mrs Benita said. Lucia, who had patiently waited for everyone to

Chapter 45

As soon as the convoy of cars stopped at the enormous and magnificent mansion, Mr Palma took a deep breath of the fresh and natural air which he had missed for the past one month. Almost immediately, the gate was open and the cars drove in to meet all the workers lined up in their working outfits and waiting for Mr Palma’s return. “Good day Sir. Welcome back home” they all chorused in uniform rhythm. After this came an organized disembodiment of the workers as they all swiftly and carefully carried in the luggages to its prospective place of belonging. “Home sweet home” Mr Palma mumbled to himself as he took one more look at the mansion. Even though he had just enjoyed a very luxurious vacation, nothing beat the comfort of his home with family surrounding him. “I ordered the maids to prepare a light meal for you so you won't get too filled for dinner. We'll be throwing a lavish welcome back feast for you” Mrs Lilian announced excitedly. She seemed to enjoy every passing second wit

Chapter 46

The dinner consisted of different varieties of exotic dishes which were covered with transparent glass plates. It wasn't really exciting for Wilson due to the fact that he considered the whole thing as a waste of effort and food. “All these for three people?” Wilson questioned the cook. The question however was answered by his father. “I forgot to tell you son, we're expecting guests” Mr Palma announced in a not so exciting way which Wilson found suspicious. “And by guests, who do you refer to?” Wilson asked his father. “You'll find out in the next few minutes” Mr Palma said before completely taking his gaze off Wilson. This was one thing Mr Palma did whenever he took a decision which Wilson wouldn't normally accept. Wilson however decided not to act rash and wait up for whoever and whatever was coming. Soon enough, the visitors arrived. Wilson's mom and dad left the dinner table to give the visitors a proper welcome, while Wilson stayed out without moving an inch. The few mome

“I'm sorry, what?” Wilson retorted, his annoyance turning to surprise. “You seem to quickly forget things. I thought you would recognize me the moment I got in, but I was wrong. Thank you lucky stars your mom volunteered for you to follow me, if not, I would have visited you later at night” Lisa said in the most soothing and romantic voice, her fingers moving around Wilson. “What are you trying to do?” Wilson asked as he shook off Lisa's hand in disgust. “Ugh, it's me, Lisa. Don't you remember your middle school crush and prom date?” Lisa asked, visibly pissed off. And so it hit Wilson. It was no wonder the name and face felt familiar to him. Never did he imagine facing his childhood crush and disappointment in such a way.Wilson attended the same middle school with Lisa, who was back then the most popular girl in school. Wilson was among the popular guys and had ladies crushing on him, but his whole attention was on Lisa. In that context, he asked her out to be his date for prom

Lisa on her own part felt totally humiliated by Wilson. She was left to pick up and escort herself back to the dining room. The older adults who had been discussing ever since noticed how long the younger adults had been gone. Mrs Lilian volunteered to go search for them, but was stopped by Mr Palma. “Just leave them alone to catch up with lost times. Even if they get dirty, it is to the benefit of both companies” Mr Palma whimpered from his cavity. He was proved wrong in a few minutes when Lisa stormed into the room with a face full of tears and smudged makeup.“Lisa! What's the matter” a surprised and concerned Mr Albert asked his daughter. “I want to leave this house this instant father” Lisa announced, very much to everyone's surprise. “But why? What made you cry?” Mrs Lilian asked. “That should be who, and who else if not your disrespectful, violent and mannerless son. He had the audacity to strangle me” Lisa shouted, pointing her index finger to the slightly red fingerpri

Chapter 50

Everything seemed to have frozen as Lucia came face to face with Mrs Katie. The suspense at that moment was intense, and for some seconds, Mrs Katie seemed to have forgotten she was under labor. The two young women stood looking at themselves without saying a word, and it took words from people around before they could say anything. “Do you know her Lucia?” Jada asked as she looked at her daughter's frozen face. Mrs Katie's relatives also asked the same question.“She's the lady I told you all about mom. She's Mr Henry's wife” Lucia responded softly. In the midst of contractions and pain, Mrs Katie was able to give her companions an answer. “She's the daughter of the man who Henry accidentally murdered,” said Mrs Katie in a low tone. She wasn't proud of what her husband did, and it showed in her body language that she wasn't comfortable. She swallowed harder than usual, and her whole face was full of beads of sweat. “I'll suggest you go deliver your baby Ma'am. You must be in so

Chapter 49

Lucia woke up in the middle of the night looking like a zombie. She had slept really late due to her being restless and regardless of that, she couldn't sleep peacefully. She woke up twice more, and in each instance, she would take a good look at Jada who slept peacefully and had hardly moved while sleeping. She was happy with the development, but at the same time jealous of how her mom was so relaxed. Every single sound made from external forces seemed like the sound of metal and sand clashing at each other. It got to a point when Lucia couldn't take it anymore. She got up to carry out her early morning chores as early as 4:00 AM, and decided to watch TV when she was done. Mrs Benita was the first person to wake up amongst the adults in the house. “I could've sworn the tv wasn't on before heading to bed” Mrs Benita mumbled as she approached the TV stand. “Good morning Mrs Benita” Lucia greeted with a faint voice. This frightened the daylight out of Mrs Benita who let out a
