Chapter Ten

WolfCaius leads the way, and soon the sounds of raucous laughter and gruff voices fill the air, pulling me further into the belly of this rogue haven. The moment we step into the clearing, the atmosphere shifts. The revelry fades into silence, and every eye turns to me. I can feel the weight of their stares—some curious, others hostile or indifferent. I scan the crowd, recognizing a few faces from the last time I was here, their hardened features still etched in my memory. They’re the kind of rogues who look like they’ve swallowed nails and spit venom. Not exactly the warmest welcome. I scoff inwardly; this is the family Caius has built, and the bond they share is as rough as their exterior. Caius claps me on the back, his grip firm and possessive. “Come on, boy, let’s get you a drink! We have much to celebrate tonight,” he says, his voice booming with enthusiasm. If he only knew the real reason I’m here, I’d be strung up like a trophy kill before I could even explain. Reluctantly

Chapter Eleven

WOLFSparring practice? Are you fucking kidding me? Groaning, I scrub a hand over my face, unwilling to open my eyes as another loud bang reverberates against the door.By the third or fourth bang, I’m pretty sure the door will come right off its hinges. Take a hint, old man. Just fucking leave me alone.I bury my head deeper under the pillow, hoping he’ll take the hint and back off. The man is relentless.“Get up, Wolf! Either you open this door, or I’ll break the goddamn thing down!” Caius’s growl slices through my hazy mind, and while it should have me leaping out of bed, I can barely lift my head from the pillow.I groan again, pinching my eyes shut against the persistent pounding in my skull. The effects of that wolfsbane cocktail from last night have me convinced that Caius was bullshitting about the drink being harmless. I can’t shake the feeling that he slipped something else in there too—something that’s left me feeling like roadkill.Shifters are capable of three things: supe

Chapter Twelve

Wolf I haven’t left my room; the events from earlier this morning are still far too fresh in the back of my head. I bit into Mason like it was nothing. I could have really hurt her, and I guess the guilt is pissing me off even more because she came at me in true Mason fashion. Eventually, my wolf got pissed off and retaliated. And then there’s what happened with Damien; my wolf wanted to rip him apart, and I mean that fucking literally. I could have ended his existence then; the raw carnal thirst behind the action felt so right. I am a rogue just like Damien, so why, in that instance, did it feel like there was something more inside me when I had him pinned down? The dominating force of power that rippled through my body was about to explode through me at that moment. Flexing the muscles in my arms as I make a fist, my brows furrow as I lay studying the skin like it holds some goddam secret. Swallowing hard, I scoff at how pathetic that sounds before running my fingers through my

Chapter Thirteen

WolfThe moment the bandaging drops, I freeze, my eyes locking onto the mirror. My reflection doesn’t make any sense. Blinking hard, I lean in closer, furrowing my brows as my jaw slackens. Am I hallucinating? I fell asleep bruised, battered, and with a few cracked ribs. But now… I can’t tear my eyes away. My abs are ripped beyond recognition, my biceps massive, and I have to do a double take. Have I grown taller? I’ve always been lean, strong, but this? This is something else entirely. I’m not imagining it—I’ve gained at least two or three inches overnight. That’s impossible. I stopped growing at eighteen, two years ago, just like any other rogue. We either fill out or stay scrawny, depending on our wolves. But this transformation is unreal. My body has changed on a scale I’ve never heard of. My mind races, still hung up on Sasha’s frantic phone call last night. The energy coursing through me is wild, electric, surging through every muscle like a storm barely contained b

Chapter Fifteen

WolfFive days. That’s all I have. Five days until everything Sasha knows will be ripped from her, and all hell breaks loose under the full moon—when Caius plans to mark her, to use her for whatever dark purpose he has in mind. I’ve spent every waking hour out in the forest, running, training—alone. I refuse to train with Caius’s rogues. Hell no. My wolf snarls at the thought of them, as restless as I am, clawing at my insides, demanding freedom. But I can’t give in to him. Not yet. He’s trapped, just like me, and the worst part is, he wants to take me back to Erebus, back to Sasha. No matter how far I run, I always end up near the Erebus pack lands, and every time, I have to force myself to turn back. I can’t give in to the pull, no matter how much it hurts. Both of us—me and my wolf—we’re losing our minds. His instincts scream to protect what’s his, and Sasha is our mate. But I’m torn between duty and desire, between what I have to do and what I should do. If it weren’

Chapter Sixteen

WolfI can’t think straight. As roughly twenty-four rogues pile into two black commercial vans parked near the mine shaft entrance, my eyes narrow as I watch them with a bitter taste in my mouth. If they touch a hair on Sasha’s head, any of these fuckers, I’ll rip their heads off. That’s a promise. Caius sent another group of mutts ahead on foot; he says it’s just precautions in case Fenris tries something, but I’m not so sure. We’re meant to get in, capture Sasha, and get out, but by the level of carnal excitement splitting through the air, it’s clear that there’s something else going on here. The mutts seem way too fucking eager for something to happen, and it has my wolf on edge; the itchy feeling under my skin has me wanting to tear into them as I stand here. It’s taking some serious fucking self-control not to. Mason stands beside me, and she’s staring out in the same direction as I am at the mutts as they drive away. I’m not paying any attention to her, so when she murmurs,

Chapter Seventeen

WOLF Everything falls silent on the drive back to the mine shaft. Sasha is in my arms, securely held against my chest, and my wolf is basically purring, a soft, gentle rumble vibrating against her body. But I can't fully enjoy the sensation, not after what happened back there; the heavy darkness that's blanketing this moment of happiness in shrowded hollow ecstasy cuts like a knife to my soul.Sasha is still out cold, and I suppose I should feel relieved because once she wakes up, everything will change. Descending into the mine shaft after we arrive back, Mason keeps giving me this weird look, but I don't pay her any attention. I have Sasha tightly gripped in my arms, holding her soaked form to mine like a child, her eyes are still closed, but I know she isn't asleep; I felt the moment she came too back when I got out of the tuck. Besides, I'm her mate; she can't fool me. The moment I get to the door of my room, I freeze in my tracks, having both Caius and Mason stop a few feet sho

Chapter Eighteen

WOLF I'm sitting on the floor with my back against the wall, staring at her. I haven't been able to take my eyes off her while she lies sleeping in my bed; I'm afraid she'll be gone if I close my eyes and wake up. The reality of just how much this girl means in my life is only now starting to hit me, and it's the most terrifying thing I've ever had to come to grips with. To be falling this deeply isn't something I've ever experienced before. It has my chest tightening and contracting in response, wondering how someone like me is meant to give someone like her the world; that's what she deserves, nothing less. My mind keeps racing; how do I get her out of here and away from Caius? The moment I felt her pain, it changed everything; the tangible connection I felt between us still has me wholly spellbound even now. She reached inside my head and connected with a part of what I had lost so long ago, holding my pain in her hand and exposing it for what it has always been... abandon

Chapter Nineteen

SASHA I watch him walk away, and a sudden ache begins to form with every step he takes; the second he rounds a corner and I lose all track of him, I blow out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. I swallow hard at a lump forming in my throat, and being alone like this suddenly forces me to think about what happened. Wolf's presence has been the only thing that's been distracting me from the horrific events which have me hating myself. I'm the reason they're gone; it's because of me, what's inside of me, the damaged part even my father felt repulsed and disgusted by. Closing my eyes momentarily, I try to block it out as I push my back against the closed door, but I can't. I should make a run for it; I have a good enough idea of where exactly I am, not that I'm all too familiar with this old mine shaft. Still, home isn't too far away from here; if I shift and make a run for it now, I'll be gone before anyone even notices; I mean, no one is even around to watch over me, and Wolf s
