Chapter 41 – Help Me Forget

(Red’s POV)“You’re not sleeping here, Red. The floor is cold,” Aya growled, getting up and pulling my arm to sit.“So, it’s okay for you to sleep on the floor, but I shouldn’t?” I raised my eyebrows, wrapping my arms around her and pulling her to me.Aya wriggled her body, escaping from me, but I did not release her. I only laughed when she growled and tried to push me away. She had a strong personality, but I was physically stronger at this point.“Let go of me, Red,” she squirmed, and when she failed, she attempted to bite me.I did not back out, and instead of releasing her right away, I caught her mouth, giving her a quick kiss, just a peck, and laughing as I moved away from her. I thought she would again threaten to kill me if I touched her, but she didn’t. She took the pillow, embraced it, and rolled to her other side, facing away from me. “I’d rather sleep on the floor than see Scarlett in my dreams again,” she muttered in a hushed tone and added, “I’m sorry, but I’m scar

Chapter 42 – But Not In Love

(Aya’s POV) “Did your dog die?” Rica chuckled. My forty-year-old classmate climbed the staircase beside me, and together, we walked to the hall demonstration kitchen for our freestyle cooking. Like me, Rica struggled financially, letting her kids finish high school before she decided to go back to school. “Just nervous,” I smiled sadly and sighed as I pushed the hall door and held it for her, letting Rica enter first before I stepped inside. “I know,” she rolled her eyes, breathing out. “But Aya, you had an edge working in a fine dining restaurant. Unlike me.” My lips puckered, wishing it was the case, but the truth was I felt empty, unhappy, and not inspired to cook today. When I woke up this morning, Red wasn’t beside me anymore. He was again talking to Scarlett’s picture and murmuring his never-ending love for her when I peered at his office earlier. “Are you jealous?” Leslie asked me when I called earlier to inform her I would return the money I borrowed yesterday. “Jealous

Chapter 43 – Celebrating as Family

(Aya’s POV) “Flavorful.” My lips curved into an all-smile when our evaluators gave their pleasing-to-ears comments about the meals I prepared, but when Red tasted them, he only muttered one word. Flavorful. It was good that I could glue the all-smile in my lips, but it didn’t reach my eyes anymore. The overwhelming happiness from the excellent evaluation I got instantly stopped the flow when my husband, my VIP evaluator, commented and uttered the word as if he had to say something about it. “Thanks. I’ll just help clean the demo area, then let’s go home,” I said, turning around so he would not see the sadness on my face. “Hey,” Red grabbed my arm. I gritted my teeth, not moving because my tears betrayed me. They happily trailed my cheeks, even when my heart and mind held them. Red walked and stood before me, chuckling gently as he shook his head when he saw me crying in silence. “I knew it,” he pursed his lips, holding my hands and pulling me to him. “What?” I murmured, chokin

Chapter 44 – I Want To Make The Bed

(Aya’s POV)“Flavorful,” I murmured as I rested my palm on Red’s chest, gently pushing him away from me.The plan was to clutch his shirt, pull him closer to me, and deepen the kiss, but I eased back while I still could. Although my heart was pounding in my chest hard, and its lub-dub sound was too loud, I drew out the remaining sanity I had in my brain to move away from him. “Just flavorful?” He chuckled, his finger rubbing his chin, as he leaned on the car door. “A pinch of salt was added, that’s why,” I sighed, reaching for the door handle.Red caught my wrist and pressed his soft lips on the back of my hand. “Congratulations, Aya! Sorry for what Violet did,” he muttered as he kissed my forehead. My mouth released a low growl. “You don’t need to be extra sweet, Red.”This man should stop kissing me because my body tingled every time his lips touched me, feeling the fire crawling into my skin. I brushed off his hand and reached for the door handle, but he beat me into it.“I’m n

Chapter 45 – I Hate Him

(Aya’s POV)“What do you want to do on the weekend?”Red asked after he announced to us that Sherrilyn would be traveling for business and wished to move our vacation to the following week. He raised the question to break the silence while we ate dinner.“Daddy, you promised we’ll go to the art school on Saturday if we’re not visiting Grandma Sherry,” Green reminded him.“The kids have swimming lessons in the afternoon,” I told him and winked at Katie. “I haven’t talked to their swimming teacher yet.”My daughter grinned as she was excited for the weekend, hoping to learn to swim and play with Onyx and Sapphire in the pool on Saturday. Addie and Leslie had already bought her a new swimsuit and pool toys when I told them Blue and the twins have swimming lessons on the weekend, and I planned on letting Katie join them.“Daddy,” Violet chewed on her bottom lip as she called Red.“Yes, sweetheart?” He glanced at her after taking my plate, cutting the steak for me.She lowered her gaze, br

Chapter 46 – Crush On You

(Aya’s POV)“Well… that’s different,” I bit my lower lip.“Don’t you love my daddy?” she asked, surprising me.Violet is turning eleven, and it was no secret how we all ended up in this situation. I blinked, unsure how many times because I didn’t know how to explain to her that she was asking me a difficult question.“We just met, Violet,” I murmured, not wanting anyone to hear us. “Besides, your father loves your mom very much. He still talks to her picture every morning.”She pressed her lips, but her creasing forehead told me she was thinking of something.“I don’t know if you understand, but I’m like an upgraded nanny supervisor, promising to stay by your dad’s side and take care of you, so Sherrilyn won’t take you from him,” I explained, but not adding the information that Red and I had to be extra sweet and pretend to be in love when we were in public.“I know.” Her lips curved into an embarrassed smile.“But we’re friends,” I assured her.“Can you convince daddy to allow me to

Chapter 47 – Ariana Versus Red

(Red’s POV)“Was the bed delivered?”I asked Cora as soon as she sat on the seat in front of me and was settled on her seat on the plane. Although I wished to be alone, Liam sat beside me, placing his laptop on the table, and raised his arm, calling the attendant’s attention.“This morning,” My secretary answered, her lips curving into a smile, glancing at Liam, and when their eyes met, they burst into laughter.“What’s with the bed?” Liam chuckled. “You usually ask how the kids are or -”“I had asked Cora a million times about my family, Liam,” I muttered and then ignored them while I took my phone from my pocket to answer Violet’s video call.“Daddy!” It was not one child’s scream, but four as they all wanted to fit in one place to be seen in the camera.“Wait,” Violet muttered in annoyance.“I want to see daddy,” cried Blue, reaching for her phone.I sighed, comparing our flight to this call, our travel in the air flowed smoothly, but the camera at home seemed to be experiencing a

Chapter 48 – She Is Heaven-Sent

(Red’s POV)It was a long flight, and when Dante stopped the car in the driveway, I must be tired, imagining seeing Aya leaning on the wall, busy sketching on my drawing pad. My driver must have thought I was waiting for him to open the door because he immediately got out of the car, opening my car door for me.“What is she doing here?” I asked, not for Dante, but for myself.Still, Dante uttered his answer. “She’s always there at night, Red.”I raised my eyebrows and pressed my lips tightly. ‘Why on earth would she do that?’ I asked again, but I kept the question to myself this time. I got out of the car and walked in her direction. If I didn’t recognize my drawing pad, I would think she was answering a crossword puzzle or sudoku.“Aya,” I called when I was almost near her.“Hi!” She smiled, blushing as she kept the drawing pad behind her.“What are you doing here? Dante said you’re always here at night. Why?” My eyes narrowed as I voiced out my question.Although she was still insid

Chapter 49 – Stay Away From Her

(Aya’s POV)I swam to the other side of the swimming pool when my cell phone made a noise, ringing the familiar tone, telling me it was Addie calling. I reached for the pool coping and groped my phone, swiping the screen to answer her call.“Hi there, lovely cousin,” I greeted, glancing at the pool handrail, but instead of swimming there, I decided to stay. “It’s eleven. What’s up?”“Just checking on you,” Addie laughed.“Me?” I chuckled. “The kids are now sleeping in the tent. Thank you for coming to the rescue.”“And where are you?” She asked. There was something in her voice that I could not quite understand. Was Addie teasing me?“In the swimming pool. Don’t worry, Addie, if any of the kids sleepwalk, I can see them from here.”Red seemed to value their privacy, not placing a camera inside the villa, not even in the garden, but for today, the security guard had set a CCTV in the area to ensure they were safe throughout the night. From what I had heard, it was Ariana’s order.“And

Chapter 50 – I Cannot Stay Away

(Aya’s POV)I didn’t know how long I was sitting in the pool lounger, but when my cell phone’s alarm made a noise, I realized I had already been here for more than five hours. This was the first time I did not dream of Scarlett because I did not sleep. I could not even snatch forty winks after what happened between Red and me last night.Sighing, I reached for my phone and turned off the alarm to help prepare breakfast. When I checked on the kids in their tents, still sleeping like babies, I decided to go upstairs to our bedroom to change. I didn’t want to startle Wilma or scare the maids if I came into the kitchen in a two-piece swimsuit. As I walked past Red’s office, it was dark, so I assumed he was still in our bedroom. I opened the door quietly and tiptoed as I stepped toward the walk-in closet when I found him sleeping in the new bed. When he rolled to his other side, facing away from me, my heart stopped beating as I halted, realizing he was not alone. In bed, I saw the picture
