Chapter 30 - A doomed deal.

GabriellaThe packs were gathered in Gabriella’s territory for over a month and there had been no sign of an attack from the king. The information from the magical homelands was that all was quiet and that information had come from various different places, which could only mean that it had to be good. On the other hand, there were the refugees who had clearly been through a lot. Gabriella couldn’t bring herself to believe that they were just making it all up.The only explanation everyone could think about was that someone was probably trying to make the king look bad. It was such a traumatic event for the refugees that it was possible that they could have been mistaken and that someone pretending to be the king could have faked this so-called war. The three alphas got together and agreed that it was probably safe enough for them to go home. Gabriella would let the refugees stay with her pack since they were the only ones who really had a place to house them. She also wanted to spend

Chapter 31 - The magical homelands.

MelodyAfter trying to find information for almost a month without success, the four friends were sitting around the table looking at each other. They all knew what had to be done, but nobody could bring themselves to actually say it. Melody had to go back home. Thankfully, she was the first one to speak up and her friends breathed audible sighs of relief after she said it that all the girls burst out laughing. The tension in the room had become almost unbearable! To try and make things a little easier for their friend, Gabriella even joked that Melody might just meet her mate in the homelands. Melody had been in the human world for far too long and it was very possible that her mate could be waiting for her in the homelands.Zion joked around saying that it was probably the reason why Melody didn’t want to go back home, and although Melody laughed about the joke, it was closer to home than Zion realized. When Melody was still a young witch in training, one of the boys four years her

Chapter 32 - Trouble in the homelands.

MelodyIt felt really strange to be back here. Nothing much had changed really. She had been gone for goodness knew how long and everything seemed to be the same. The only difference she could feel was in the air. People seemed more nervous than when she was here before. She could feel it in the tension in the air. Then, when she spoke to people, it was as if they were hesitant to say something … Anything! She asked her parents in the car on the way home and they looked at each other for a moment before her mother came out with the entire story. It seemed as though the council had completely lost their freaking minds. People were being arrested for what seemed like no reason! Her mother explained that you could just look at something the wrong way and soldiers would appear out of nowhere and arrest you. No trials were being held that they could see, and her mother commented that she could only imagine how full the prison must be at the moment. Melody’s father made a comment that he he

Chapter 33 - What now?!

GabriellaWhat Melody was telling them was the complete opposite of what everyone was hoping to hear. None of us had ever dealt much with the magical homelands but all of us thought of it as a place of peace, and from what Melody was saying, it used to be like that. Unfortunately, like with everything else in life, things seemed to have changed in that magical wonderland and it sounded more like the place where nightmares were made.It was clear that someone other than the witch councillors was in control of the council. What all of them could agree on was that it was probably the Wolf King. It was the only option that made any sense. He hadn’t been attacking territories anymore because he had his sights set on something … Someplace far greater. The only thing nobody could figure out was why, until Lucienne sighed and said it.“Power. I mean, just think about it. If you were in control of the most powerful army in our world, what would you do with that kind of power?” It was nauseatin

Chapter 34 - A lost little pup.

MelodyMelody walked to the door and invited him in. He was her mate after all, and she was just about to tell him about their plan. All her friends seemed to agree that he should be part of their inner circle. To say that he was furious was an understatement. Matthew pulled her aside, wanting to know if she was going to go through with this ridiculous plan, but Melody saw no other way. If she pulled out of the fake engagement whatever with Eli, he would suspect something.“Don’t you think that our meeting before you do this stupid thing is a sign?” Matthew looked pained and it pained her to put him through this, but he had to understand the importance of what she was going to do. He had to understand that she would rather die than mate with Eli, but that she would have to play at being in love until they got what they needed. She knew that Eli would push for them to have the wedding as soon as possible, but she also knew that if she tried really hard, she could postpone this damn wed

Chapter 35 - Surveillance ...

MelodyMelody had to admit that she was surprised to arrive at her parents’ home and Eli wasn’t there waiting to drag her off to the chapel. When she asked her mother about it later, she was told that his mother had called her mother and told her they would give Melody a day or so to settle in, and then the entire family would get together to start with the arrangements. Melody rolled her eyes at this, thinking to herself that it was so damn typical of Eli’s mother to assume she would be in charge of everyone’s schedules!Thankfully, her mother hadn’t asked her about Matthew just yet and Melody was grateful that Matthew was hanging around, but keeping a respectful distance. She had to admit that he was surprising her that he was able to keep a distance between them. She knew that it was nearly impossible for wolves to stay away from their mates physically. Especially in the beginning.Gabriella, in the meantime, was having a tough time keeping it all in. They had been warned that ever

Chapter 36 - Overbearing fake mother-in-law!

MelodyThey couldn’t discuss what they had found on the bus or even in Melody’s parent’s house, but they could all go out to the lake and talk about it there. Her friends loved the lake and although Matthew and Melody had to be careful not to show any kind of affection towards each other, they were at least able to talk. They spent the afternoon just basking in the glorious sunlight and swimming in the fresh cool water and the time went by way too fast. Before she knew it, it was time for them to go home and have dinner. She would be going to dinner with Eli and his parents the next night and she drank every single moment with her friends and Matthew. She knew that these memories with her friends were the only thing that was going to get her through a night with Eli and his parents. These memories were going to be the only things to get her through all of this! She had to pretend to be falling in love with that bastard so she could convince him to tell her what the hell was going on.

Chapter 37 - A war is looming

MelodyGabriella felt awful to see her dearest friend go through this, but there wasn’t much they could do about it. It was the only way they could find out why the wolf king had been attacking his own people. This, however, wasn’t what she wanted for her friend! They were shopping for a dress for a fake wedding when, all the while, Melody could have happily been shopping for her real wedding dress. Gabriella walked over to where Melody was paging through some of the dresses and whispered that she just had to imagine as if she was buying the dress for her wedding with Matthew.Gabriella didn’t get the laughter she was hoping for, and instead, Melody frowned softly replying that she wasn’t even sure if she wanted to be with Matthew. Their conversation was interrupted by the shrill voice of Melody’s fake future mother-in-law as she swooped through the front door. Melody whipped around and glared at the woman.“What are YOU doing here?” She sounded as if she was on the verge of growling

Chapter 38 - A deadly deal.

GabriellaHearing that their king was planning to wipe them all out was the worst possible news they could have gotten! Gabriella was quiet all the way home as her mind kept thinking about it. What could have happened that the man finally lost the plot? Everybody knew that the Wolf King was a little crazy, but hearing that he had taken over control of the magical council was just unthinkable! How did he even do that? How did the Wolf King take control of the most powerful council in the world? That was the question that was bugging her the most. They arrived at the pack house and went straight into a private meeting with the alphas from the neighbouring packs that were attacked previously. At the moment, Gabriella didn’t trust anybody and she carefully studied the alphas as they told them what they found out. There was one she singled out during the meeting that just point blank refused to believe what they were telling them. Gabriella was furious by the time they ended the meeting an

Chapter 39 - Melody has a plan!

The Wolf KingHe saw Magnus making his way to him and he knew that whatever the warrior had to say, it wouldn’t be good. That meant he would probably have to postpone his sparring session and he took his seat on the throne, waving for Magnus to approach as a young omega filled his golden goblet. He liked the old-fashioned things in life and was thinking of even bringing in a fire pit in the middle of his hall as the old Vikings had.“Your majesty,” Magnus kneeled in front of him. “I’m afraid, I am bringing bad news.” Magnus continued, and the king was reminded of why he liked Magnus so much. He got straight to the point. “It seems one of the packs in the outer regions of your kingdom has found out what is going on.”“WHAT?! HOW?!” The king growled, sitting upright. How did anybody find out what the hell he was up to? He made sure that nobody in the damn homelands would talk! Magnus shook his head and explained that he was out checking on packs when he noticed that one of the packs had
